  • In this video Simon Blake reads the articles of impeachment that set out the king's case against 'the five members': John Pym, John Hampden, Denzil Holles, William Strode, and Sir Arthur Hesilrige. This was a key milestone on the road to the English Civil War, convincing many in Parliament that an armed struggle with the king was now inevitable. Seeing that London was sympathetic to Parliament's cause, Charles relocated to Oxford and prepared to raise his army.
