Some people say there's a "magic bullet" system which kind of means you can only do good headshots if you wait one second between shots (I believe this time period is a variable somewhere in the game files). If you shoot sooner, your bullet isn't magic, and you can't do good headshot damage. So maybe that could be why bursts don't work too well while onetapping everyone in the head sometimes does. Some people also said that some parts of the npcs bodies don't take any damage, like toes and fingers. So when an npc is staggered and puts their hand in front of their chest? There's a higher chance to hit the arms for less damage, or fingers for no damage.
Did he forget the q and e keys? Honestly I only use master difficulty, one headshot kills anything and less resources makes fights more tense and makes you buying stuff more thoughtful, end game was not so good with fights to be honest,it was fun shooting guys with eltric sniper hit hax but it doesn't hold a candle to the other gunfights I play stalker vanilla and modded and I just can't get enough
Autumn Aurora 2.1 is the best mod for Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl albeit it doesn't run very well on modern hardware (Maybe just me) I love hardcore mods. Also, small tidbit but I've always found that playing without the crosshair enabled immensely improves immersion. Also, I don't want to disagree with your opinion but I do believe master is probably the best difficulty option. The enemies are less bullet spongey than in the gameplay of your vid and accuracy atleast felt more accurate to me over the course of 100's of hours of gameplay alternating between vanilla/modded and stalker/master difficulty. I might be misremembering the accuracy of weapons in vanilla however as I personally haven't played vanilla SoC in a pr long time now.
I beat the whole game on Master and never had any problems with aiming, bullet sponges etc. All you have to do is switch to single-fire mode at mid to long range and aim for the head and you can take most guys out with 1 or 2 bullets. Save automatic for closer range encounters or mutants.
BTW in 1:44 the map is a bit off, there's no Galicia anymore for example, now it's divided between Poland and Ukraine, Poland also regained another little parts it used to own. Other eastern euro countires have a bit different borders too, It's the pre-world war map, not sure which century now, but there were lots of changes the last few hundred year, lot's of blood spilled over those borders. There're few unifying things, one of which is our love of crpgs and clunky design, for example Gothic series and Stalker series were huuuge bestsellers in central and eastern Europe, as well as infinity engine games.
To be honest, I watched Tarkovskys Stalker before ever hearing about this game, I've watched it 3 times total, never having a break in the middle of the movie. I'm also a big fan of his other work like Solaris & Andrei Rublev
I only played the game at max difficulty. My style was being crouched everywhwere, and 1 shot killed almost everything with sniper rifles at max view distance. I wasn't used to bullet drop caused by gravity, but that was not a problem by the end. The game conditioned me to aim so high that targets were not visible through the scope. The most extreme case was probably aiming 20' over the target at my max draw distance. Gaining skill at sniping heads lead to a huge surplus of ammo, because I used only 1 bullet per target.
No pistols, no shotguns, just VSS Vintorez, VLA, FN2000 and Groza. I felt the game was fine on Master difficulty, I liked it alot. Sometimes sniper rifles were fine, but the occasions to really use them are just too are, to run around with an extra 12 kg in your backpack.
Shadow of CHernobyl has the most quotable line in the series, when the guy just outside the bandit base at the beginning says "Come men, it is time to go and be heroes." No matter what happens after that, it'll all come down to the ammo : medkits & bandages ratio. And in the end, that super-duper heavily modified custom rifle you spent all your money on will be lying on the ground somewhere while you carry on with one of the enemy's guns because you don't have any ammo left for your own. Also, in regard to bullet-sponges, I used to think the enemies were all super-spongey too, but then I discovered armour piercing ammunition. Now they're only moderately spongey.
I’m genuinely worried that if STALKER 2 drops and ISN’T an over-ambitious technical mess, it’ll paradoxically feel like it’s broken because I’ve spent years playing in accordance with the game’s fucked up moon logic (zone logic?). If the enemy AI doesn’t have their xray specs set to shrubbery mode or their magic bullet-fuck-you-through-the-level-geometry gloves, I don’t know if I’ll be able to adjust. What if the pseudogiant’s ground-pound attack doesn’t somehow shoot up vertically to damage me while I’m far above it on a suspended catwalk? This IP’s brand identity is glitches. Ambition, atmosphere, but also a fuckton of glitches. It’s a bit of a development quandary.
@@StratEdgyProductions When you play Call of Pripyat, you should take a look at the Misery mod. Really changes up the experience. By changes up I mean that the game will bend you over and go in dry. The Brain Scorcher was made unintentionally easy in Anomaly. I dropped about 40 IEDs through the rooms and as soon as I pulled the lever, about half of the enemies died.
This was sooner that I expected. And you're right, the film was very difficult to watch for me on first viewing, but something about it's eeriness grew on me.
When I was big into film I loved stalker, solaris, Ran, Ikiru stuff like that. I still do but try to watch a three hour movie with kids. Not a fun experience.
Truly recommend the ZRP patch for Soc and CS, especially for CS. Think of them as the unofficial patches for the Elder Scrolls game. You can play vanilla but sooner or later the issues will get to ya.
Last time I played Stalker it was Master and I was very careful in the opening hours, after getting some solid gear and a scope things got heaps better. I didn't have issues with ammo after I started collecting goods to sell and stock up on Heal Kits and ammo but I did have to almost exclusively headshot so over time that helped to reduce ammo consumption. Unfortunately I got distracted and didn't finish.
Hey Strat! If you're ever in the mood to punish your brain with this game again, here are 2 tricks to make your time a little more bearable: - 1) Use cover that you peek over to shoot. If you have to side peek, use the lean function. You only take 20% damage from a headshot. You take 100% damage if you get hit even in your little toe. So stick your neck out in this game but keep everything else in cover. 2) If you want accuracy, ADS only after a half-second after stopping your movement. The engine is a little slow, and if you ADS too quickly after changing movement speeds it doesn't update the parameters and you'll have the same level of accuracy as your last movement. So good luck hitting anything if you're quick scoping from a full sprint. So generally, sprint to cover/stop/peek over and shoot, and you'll probably have an easier time with those gun battles. I spent about 2 years modding Stalker to weed out many of the issues you've pointed out because the AI and atmosphere offered so much potential. During that time modding, I noticed the absolutely ridiculous character damage chart used in the vanilla game. Give it a try!
Pro tip and spoiler maybe. In the army warehouse area in an attic of a building you get one of the best sniper weapon and the Duty missions in rail yard bar area give you ammo for it.
I almost never use automatic fire. Single shots always. Since ammo is scarce and firing on auto jolts the firearm around really bad. Firing single shots keeps the recoil low and lets you control the firefight easier. Since you aren't waiting to reload so much or wasting much needed ammo. Also, the Stalker film is excellent. Kind of bitter in my interpretation. But overall a fantastic movie.
I have the same love-hate relationship with the game. It was hyped as a ground breaking survival rpg experience and came out as a half baked shooter, which took a lot of endurance and determination not to quit after couple of hours in and I went through entire movie in one go so I’m not a quitter lol
I loved the atmosphere and I nearly finished Shadow of Chernobyl, but then I reached a city filled with bullet spongey jumping zombies and campy fuckers that one-shotted me waiting for me behind every corner and so I just gave up.
Wow a blast from the past. Still have my brick and mortar store bought small box copy (I miss the big boxes. It's like when CDs started coming out and it was bye bye Big Sleeve Vinyl albums ). Then again, I still have all the boxed games I ever bought for decades now. I'm gunna need a bigger room. 😁
Now play it with mods like Anomaly. In Anomaly you can choose your faction from the start, game is a lot more open and focused on free roaming, locations from all games are avalible, plenty of new weapons, graphical improvements and so on. Its a competly different experience, superior imo. I cant go back to unmodded Starlker games.
Satlker is one of the very few movies where 2 hour long dolly shots of a tree are not only acceptable but they're also necessary, сука. Also, people actually died from cancer while filming it, have some respect. But seriously, look up it's production history. Crazy stuff. Anyway, good video man.
lol the movie is pleasant to fall asleep to, you mentioned it's like the OG R6 but you haven't used any of the tactics that you would need to pass those games
I love how this game is still relevant. GSC truly created something incredible. Edit: After watching the video, I must suggest using ZRP mod and Arsenal Overhaul mod. ZRP helps a TON with bugfixes and making the game more enjoyable to play overall. The Arsenal Overhaul replaces all guns in game with higher textured, real life variants of weapons that feel much more authentic to use. If you had those 2 mods installed, almost every complaint you made in this video would not have been made.
This is honestly one of the best games I ever played, and yes, it is meant to be played in a high dificulty. Your problem is you treat it like a shooter, this game IS NOT supposed to be a shooter, it's an rpg. The first guns are supposed to have high spread since your character is not a trained soldier with perfect aim. If you go up against 3 armed bandits without any kind of strategy or gear, you are supposed to lose that fight and get killed. If you get shot in the head or a couple of times in the chest you are supposed to die, just like you would in real life. At the start of the game, where you are low on gear you are meant to engage gunfights extremely carefully, using stealth, grenades and advantageous positioning, or just outright avoid them. I found myself running away from many gunfights when I played this game for the first time. If you are just running around while shooting down everything you see, you are not playing the game the way it's meant to be played, and you will never really understand how great this game really is. The zone is supposed to be a threat, if you don't want it to feel that way, then you are better off playing a different game.

Some people also said that some parts of the npcs bodies don't take any damage, like toes and fingers. So when an npc is staggered and puts their hand in front of their chest? There's a higher chance to hit the arms for less damage, or fingers for no damage.
Did he forget the q and e keys?
Honestly I only use master difficulty, one headshot kills anything and less resources makes fights more tense and makes you buying stuff more thoughtful, end game was not so good with fights to be honest,it was fun shooting guys with eltric sniper hit hax but it doesn't hold a candle to the other gunfights
I play stalker vanilla and modded and I just can't get enough
I use the lean key constantly in the game. You probably just can't notice it.
@@StratEdgyProductions yhea, you spent half the video peeking CS GO style and the other half peeking, sorry mate

OGSR, Lost Alpha DC, Anomaly. Here. Good luck with that Mr.Eurojunk
They should have put some sort of safe spot / base / ammo dump at the Brain Scorcher. It’s videogamey, but it works.
Just go for headshots and all your bullet-sponge issues will vanish. Like, wtf.
Lean and Head-shot, that's all you need to learn about the combat basic
No pistols, no shotguns, just VSS Vintorez, VLA, FN2000 and Groza. I felt the game was fine on Master difficulty, I liked it alot. Sometimes sniper rifles were fine, but the occasions to really use them are just too are, to run around with an extra 12 kg in your backpack.
One does not need mods to appreciate the treasure that is STALKER
Shadow of CHernobyl has the most quotable line in the series, when the guy just outside the bandit base at the beginning says "Come men, it is time to go and be heroes."
No matter what happens after that, it'll all come down to the ammo : medkits & bandages ratio.
He didn't even talk about the knife, it basically does what the sledge in red faction guerrilla does, but in a single hit.
Call of Pripyat next? Maybe even Clear Sky?
All the stalkers, then stalker 2 whenever it comes out.
@@StratEdgyProductions have you tried/are you going to cover any of the mods like Anomaly?
@@StratEdgyProductions Ever think about doing a video on the Metro series?
@@StratEdgyProductions Nice! Can't wait. You plan on doing Clear Sky or Call of Pripyat first?
@@StratEdgyProductions When you play Call of Pripyat, you should take a look at the Misery mod. Really changes up the experience.
By changes up I mean that the game will bend you over and go in dry. I remember when I spawned in for the first time and got mauled by a pack of ravenous dogs... good times.
one of my favorite games of all time.
Hey strat thanks for making this.. ive been watching your videos and its been helping me getting threw my cat being sick and having to be put down. Your videos always put a smile on my face
Yep still holds up, playing and loving in 2024
Short, controlled burst.
The Brain Scorcher was made unintentionally easy in Anomaly. I dropped about 40 IEDs through the rooms and as soon as I pulled the lever, about half of the enemies died.
power of todd can effect other post apocalyptic games too
or fantasy maybe
This is the grizzled grandfather of Tarkov.
I have the vanilla disc and some how it runs amazing on my shity computer
If you find a few Mama's Bead Artifacts you will become quite bulletspongey.
@@StratEdgyProductions my condolences
Try the book, easy to read and the story is great
Truly recommend the ZRP patch for Soc and CS, especially for CS. Think of them as the unofficial patches for the Elder Scrolls game. You can play vanilla but sooner or later the issues will get to ya.
I hope youve been happier since you left EA. Really enjoying your channel!
Well, GSC old office was in a former factory, so you got that one right.
Hey Strat! If you're ever in the mood to punish your brain with this game again, here are 2 tricks to make your time a little more bearable: -
1) Use cover that you peek over to shoot.
Soooo...Gothic next ? I love first two Gothics and i would love your review.
I love these games. Though my one complaint is the "time to aim" aspect of weapon damage.
If you close the lid the Gatorade bottles don't smell
Best played in original language with subs

I must be Mr. Nooneinthehistoryofever
I have the same love-hate relationship with the game. It was hyped as a ground breaking survival rpg experience and came out as a half baked shooter, which took a lot of endurance and determination not to quit after couple of hours in and I went through entire movie in one go so I’m not a quitter lol
"I never seem to have ammo!"
>400 clips of Strat firing on full auto and bursts instead of semi auto
lmoa
Pls do Anomaly someday, it’s the best iteration of stalker to date and it’s free
modded call of chernobyl my dude
its a treasure disguised as trash. but its the best trash out there
youll never be the same after playing it
Stalker Gamma is still one of the only games I play to this day. Its just that good
I loved the atmosphere and I nearly finished Shadow of Chernobyl, but then I reached a city filled with bullet spongey jumping zombies and campy fuckers that one-shotted me waiting for me behind every corner and so I just gave up.
Why was the Generation Kill clip so low res? That's funny
Can’t wait for Strat to do a review of Heart of Chernobyl
i still play this game to this day
The most op artefact in shadow of Chernobyl is mama's bread,5% bullet Res with 0 downsize, super rare tho only ever found 2.
I know for sure that your channel is treasure!
As a seasoned stalker player i never had a problem with ammo. I never even bought ammo in any game from trilogy in my numerous playtrhoughs
Thanks for the fixed re-upload!
Satlker is one of the very few movies where 2 hour long dolly shots of a tree are not only acceptable but they're also necessary, сука.
Also, people actually died from cancer while filming it, have some respect. But seriously, look up it's production history. Crazy stuff.
Anyway, good video man.
It's a joke, bruv. I love Tarkovsky.
@@StratEdgyProductions no worries, I was being cheeky too. Guess it doesn't come across very well in writing, lol.
lol the movie is pleasant to fall asleep to, you mentioned it's like the OG R6 but you haven't used any of the tactics that you would need to pass those games
No offence Strat, but any difficulty other than master shows you haven't embraced the zone.
Another entertaining and informative video regarding a cool game I don't have a PC to play on
seems like a very interesting game
