- [ ENG ] The Festival of the Candles is a local event that has taken place in #Gubbio every year since 1160, the 15th of May, Saint Ubaldo Day. Three enormous candles are carried through the streets of the city: it is a procession, a pagan fertility ritual. In this first episode let's see what happens the Eve of the celebration day and what are the historical roots of the whole thing.

[ ITA ] Ogni 15 Maggio dal 1160 ad oggi, a #Gubbio si celebra la grande Festa dei Ceri! Tre ceri enormi e pesantissimi vengono portati in processione attraverso le strade della città, rappresentando rispettivamente Sant’Ubaldo, Sant’Antonio e San Giorgio. In questo primo episodio vediamo cosa succede durante la Vigilia del giorno di festa e scopriamo con #SyusyBlady e #PatrizioRoversi quali sono le radici storiche della manifestazione.

You are incorrect about it only happening in Gubbio. My hometown also has La Festa dei Cieri. This ancient tradition was brought over by the Italian immigrants: Jessup, Pennsylvania is the sister city of Gubbio.
