Toobin was a favorite of mine to rent back in the days of the NES. When I got older and started buying the NES games I remembered as a kid, Toobin was right at the top. Of course I never played the Arcade version so I had no frame of reference.
Nice one! I like Toobin' quite a bit. Atari arcade games tend to be bright and emphasize plyability and fun, and their style appeals to me. There really was a time before games from US went all brown, bros and badass,
Indeed... I did play both the ZX and amiga version, and the Amiga was clearly well done. The game itself isnt that appealing to me, but quite fun with a friend...
The first time I played it was at a Holiday resort in southern England. I'm pretty sure I sucked at it too. All those buttons and no joystick confused me. I didn't spend too much time with it though as the same Arcade also had full hydrological versions of Galaxy Force II and Power Drift.
Yes, all the seaisde resorts had arcades, Southend on Sea was my main domain, all the games.. Now though its shit as fuck. no video games just UFO, Stacker, the odd Rambo shooter thats on silent. Gutting, it used to be so good - had a brilliant session with a Japanese guy, he beat me 3-1, but using Akumas "death" move.. I had no idea to pull that off but he showed me. The game crashed every time though so we went Ryu VS Guile or whater. Retro Core
***** Its all there on the internet - MAME, it plays everything, download the ROMS from the various websites, any games you want (I buy collections and the like too however). But yes, retro gaming has come back big time - its great! ^_^
Ahh Toobin', one of those games that was/is begging for an Atari Lynx port! Games like this were hard to find in the arcades back in the day, but worth it when you found one that had it. Thanks for another great show.
I only ever saw one real Toobin arcade cabinet and thought it was so odd having no joystick. But I played it and loved it. I must have been about 10 or so back then.
Different controls can make a game. Defender was one that was a little different, but it worked well once you got the hang of it. Speaking of which, a humble suggestion of Defender for a future episode. :-)
Quite a strange concept to make video game about, but as long as its fun, why not? And rather surprising to see good arcade conversion on Amiga. C64 received another good port, but it seems was more or less normal. Very surprising that NES received a very bad conversion.
They sure were. Their early PS1 era compilations were nearly 100%, for instance. And even in their later works when they were doing 20+ games on each compilation versus 5-6, well past 80% were emulated very well. For every miss like Wizard of Wor (Emulated just awful on Midway Arcade Treasures 2), many ran great. Just what's so horrible about titles like Atari Anthology, Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, Midway Arcade Treasures, etc?
The Game Boy Color stuff did seem to be pretty awful. Even the classic gaming related projects on the GBC were disappointments. My concentration as a fan though was always on the emulation side of Digital Eclipse. Take for instance the Xbox Live Arcade games that they did for Konami in the early days of the 360. Other than them bizarrely not saving high score data, there wasn't a single thing wrong with the XBLA releases of Time Pilot, Track & Field, Contra, Frogger, etc. High class work in those late days of Digital Eclipse (The remnants of which were finally shuttered after Midway Arcade Origins circa 2010; Today's Digital Eclipse is a brand new company).
Yes, my beloved Amiga finally got a good port :) It would be interesting to see what quality of games the Japanese cud have got out the machine. Its truly a developers machine, unfortunately most of the time it was used by crappy company's to make a low quality product and some quick cash. Great video as usual Yakamo :) Would u mind stating what Amiga model/spec the game(s) are running on?
No, that's not been done but since there's no arcade version it won't be getting done for a while. That game was know as Fire Power 2000 on consoles I think. Came out on the SNES, MD and even PC Engine CD from. What I remember.
It's always great to hear Matt Furniss's - one of my fav videogame composers - works before the 16-bit era.
All that jolly happy music through most of the video then that ominous closing music at the end, I was like "Goddamn Retro Core !"
lol, I like to surprise.
At least the GBC version got music from Allister Brimble.

"As you'd expect, the PCP version.."
Something you trying to tell us eh?
I always prefer to play toobin on pcp
@@mastersproutgamer9327 Why not both?
i liked this on the speccy and the music.

Yep, this is when US games were fun. Funny though, US console games now are much better than the consoles games they made in the late 80s and 90s
The Amiga port of a game being the best? Its a world gone mad! MAD, I tell you!
Indeed... I did play both the ZX and amiga version, and the Amiga was clearly well done. The game itself isnt that appealing to me, but quite fun with a friend...
Accept it Retro Core, the Gameboy Color has good music
I remember playing this game at a local Pizza Hut when I was a kid, and I kinda sucked at it. XD

Love the arcade version. We need a Toobin' sequel for modern consoles.
The first time I played this was on Holiday as a kid, in Virginia Waterworld. Quite an apt setting! Good times..
+andy7666 Think my first time was at a caravan site in Devon, UK.

I'll add it to the list. Thanks for the sugestion.
@@RetroCore surprised the cheapskate Tramiel family didn't port their own STE clone, White Water Madness, to the Lynx
the music at the end is pretty badass. Has a Mega Drive flavour to it.

I loved this game as a kid. Very unique for sure.
I had an Amstrad CPC and i have to recognize that Amiga is simply amazing.
Digital Eclipse was a fine developer.
Seriously?

Only with the compilation games, but the rest were pretty bad

Cracking game, I always loved the music in the Storm Drain level.
I have the NES and Game Boy Color versions. I've never played the arcade original.

I was actually using emulation for the Amiga but it was set to an A600 with 4mb RAM. A bit overkill but at least the ram is there if needed.
Wanted to know did they sell any of the european computers in japan ?
They did but not in big numbers. Even the Atari Jag was sold here, well, kind of
why do you often have emulation issues? gameboy colour for example is one of the easiest consoles to emulate. use visual boy advance-m or BGB ^^
It's actually a problem with this game, not the emulator. I tried a few roms but the were all the same. The emulator is the one you mentioned.
Please remind me if you done silkworm.
If not I would like to see that.

"there's no arcade version"
There is an arcade version and it is called silkworm. Firepower is silkworm 2 (SWIV)
Ah, in that case it can be covered. I'll add it to the list.
Retro Core
great
Was't this base on a pinball machine or am I trippin?
Not that I aware of.
