Yes, it's right, but the difference to Sherlock is that Moriarty is sadistic and cruel all the time, because he is an evil criminal person, he treat people always bad and hurt them emotionally or mentally only for his own purposes and advantage, but Sherlock faked his own death only to protect the few friends he has: John, Mrs. Hudson and Greg, and because he wanted to dismantle Moriarty's criminal network to keep his friends safe. Whether you like it or not, he couldn't act otherwise. He had no choice.
