    Yay! I can play the guitar! Thanks to Lauren's awesome guidance. You make learning so much easier. Of course I put in the practice but without knowing what to practice I never could have come so far so fast. Thank you!

    I truly think this is one of the best lessons I have watch you conduct. You are so fun to watch, because you are exuberant and that is contagious! As I have said in many of your videos, you are always in my top 3 online instructors I recommend to my students I teach through the Guitars4Vets program. Many of them have some type of disability (physical, psychological and or both) and I explain to them that they should watch your lessons and actually I recommend they signup for your course.

    I'm 65 years old and starting to play again and I find your lessons very good. I love your style of teaching and I noticed that when you arpeggiate you hold the pick in your thumb, index and middle fingers but strum with thumb and middle does it make it easier for you or just the way you learned?

    • @LaurenBateman
      @LaurenBateman  11 месяцев назад +1

      Great observations. I think it might be a bad habit. I'm mainly self taught so I vary how I hold my pick depending on what I'm doing.

      @@LaurenBateman I learned almost everything I know from RUclips, about 7-8 years ago Marty Swartz was my go to for lessons, now that I have found you I watch daily. Just received a new guitar today. Gretsch Jim Dandy Parlor size. Thanks for responding.

    Lauren. Great lesson. I love that song. Quick picking question. My guitar teacher pointed it out and it's bad habit. Using the thumb to move the pick instead of the wrist. Suggestion to rid myself of that. Thank!

    • @LaurenBateman
      @LaurenBateman  Год назад

      Depends on what you're doing honestly. Same strings has wrist motion. Between strings is more arm motion.

    New to your channel. Still looking to get my first guitar but you make it look so easy. I am 62 and finally have some time for this. I thought a good song might be "Baby I Love Your Way" by Peter Frampton. Lots of strumming and only a few chords. Thoughts?

    • @LaurenBateman

      Thank you, Larry for the recommendation. I get lots of song requests so I cannot guarantee that I will get to it, but I will definitely add it to my list.

    Nice lesson. I am just curious. What string gauge you recommend for beginners using Acoustic?

    • @LaurenBateman
      @LaurenBateman  Год назад +1

      For acoustic, 10s or 11s. The thinner the string, the easier to press. But they don't sound as good as thicker strings. Even to this day I play 11s myself.

    I Can strum and play rhythm well but I can play the most simple lick worth a lick. I can’t understand how to even play scales. I mean i get it but I can’t do them. I pick the wrong strings and it’s just really frustrating been a year now trying. I finally Can make it through Mary had a little lamb a bit choppy. What is the secret?

    an almost easier version, which I think is correct. After hitting G chord, slide the G shape up to 7th fret (B), then hit 1st finger on 5th fret of D string for the high G, then slide back to 3rd fret with G chord. You can strum the whole thing with a little muting.
