I was at Newport beach in OC and they kept telling us to get out of the water but no one did (I don't swim). I didn't see any oil spill. One of the women said they could smell it. It was big but not massive! Valdez as massive.

Massive? Balderdash. Lets put things in perspective. The Deepwater Horizon accident spilled roughly 5 million barrels, this spill is about 3 thousand barrels. Those numbers are nowhere near close. You want irony? The media won't tell you about the *MILLIONS* of barrels of oil that naturally seep into all the oceans every year. Furthermore these oil seeps are *commonplace* in and around Southern California. Not only that, but nature has spilled more crude oil into the environment and oceans than man *ever* has.
There was a term for this type of media and reporting. Look up the term Yellow Journalism. It's still alive and well.

Deep Water Horizon BP spill: 210 million gallons. This spill: 144k gallons. That's like fifteen hundred times larger. The news calling this a massive spill is fairly ridiculous.

Ironically not having the pipeline makes the oil cheaper because they are forced to sell to the US. With the pipeline they can export it to the highest bidder. If China makes a better offer then that is where it will go.
I have an honest question; would the oil company own the land the pipeline is on, be allowed to use it for free, or would they be renting it?

Ugh. This needs to stop. This is human error. This was completely avoidable. Checks and due diligence on these underwater pipelines needs to be performed on a month to month basis to be sure of no cracks in these pipelines etc. The poor creatures in the ocean 🌊 are at a huge loss as their natural habitat and ecosystem is being destroyed by, once again, you guessed it, human error and no accountability on the part of these huge companies. I’m really over it. 🥺😡

Actually, please say more. The idea on its surface immediately runs into problems, not least of which is: "How do we either move all that oil onto land?" (if we could do that then we wouldn't have this problem), or: "How do we breed a land based organism to survive in a massive saltwater biome?" Looks like a breach in not using proper equipment as in pressure sensors that automatically close a valve instantly when a leak happens. This is not rocket science, can someone please tell me if there a legal mandate for these sensors and if not who is to blame ?
