    I have received many comments noting that Nadr Shah was an ethnic Turk, rather than Persian. The reason that I refer to him as Persia’s Napoleon is because that was the empire over which he ruled. It was a multi-ethnic empire. I in no way intended to belittle his heritage.

      hahaha! Is this what they tell you in the Alyev educational system??! Russia defeated Iran, and forcibly took the northern parts of Azerbaijan, and the Persians (I mean the Azeri Qajar dynasty) had no choice but to give the land. but today after 200 years, Alyev is trying to hide that Azerbaijan has a Persian (and by Persian I mean Iranic) culture.

      Elsen Avshar-> If you mean by "they were not persians" as "they were not Iranians" you are wrong in three aspects! 1. Safavid founders were half kurdish (Beside azeri/azari itself is not a turkish name and infact it is a persian name), 2. Safavid culture were based on Sufism (the name safavi means those who are sufi)! and Sufism is rooted in pre-islamic Persia/Iran (Zoroaster, and Mani) gnosticism culture, 3. Iran from her blooming was multi-cultural multi-linguistic country. This is what it makes a country instead of ruling of an ethnic over others. This interesting idea i think was unique when it was proposed (philosophically by zoroaster and politically by Cyrus the great) and to the best of my knowledge no other culture/country proposed that idea before Iranians/persians. Maybe because of this idea that Iranians think that they inherited the fist country of the world and not just a collection of city-state based civilization (as is the case of many other ancient civilizations)

    Let's all thank The History Guy.
    He gave a conscious and factual portrait of one of history's world leaders.
    It is true he was a great General, a Nation builder, an economist and did several other things exceptionally.
    The History Guy did an exceptional presentation in the allotted time and format. This is an exceptional snipit of history, about an important area of the world and our past as mankind
    This is not a biography so if there are points about the subject that were left out due to time or content space do not get mad because it's not left out it is just not relevant because this is a snipit of history and not a biography.
    Thank you again Mr. History Guy

      Kudos to Sumeria for cultivating wheat some 18,000 years ago. Possibly giving birth to 'civilization' and evolving humans from pure hunter/gatherers to that next level. The ancient world was indeed in that area of the globe and if it were not for the many compounding problems that Ramses III faced some 3200 years ago, it could still very well be the center of civilization. The first historically documented 'dark age' sadly began around that period of time (1177/1186'ish BCE - sea people/famine/earthquakes/drought/internal and external strife and likely also disease (though there is no proof of the latter). It was a globalized trading community among many nations before all but Egypt would lose the art of writing and many other skills and have to arise again during the 'neo' periods of those geographies.

    I enjoyed reading the comments on this discussion thread.
    It is nice to get the points of view from Iranian and other people from that area of the world.
    I was especially pleased by a comment that this guy was one person's hero and that multiple books about the great leader that were written in Arabic are being translated into English. I look forward to reading them and hope he translates them word for word exactly as the authors wrote them.
    Sometimes translaters change or add words to make a translated sentence sound better and make sense or be less confusing. I hope that does not happen too much because you can loose or miss the original authors point of view or point he is trying to make.

      nlpjohn You both need to read some history, the sixth army was not defeated in Stalingrad until January of 1943. In 1941 the Soviet army was still in full retreat and disarray.

    • @SafariPilot
      @SafariPilot 5 лет назад +1

      @nlpjohn seems you cannot even read your own comments, you state that the Soviets defeated the German army at Stalingrad in 1941, nice try to sound smart and totally do the opposite, maybe you should go back to basic english books and leave the history to people with the ability to read even their own words.

    • @SafariPilot
      @SafariPilot 5 лет назад +2

      nlpjohn if you start with dates you end with dates. Since you only mention 1941 anyone reading your poorly written paragraph would rightfully assume you were still talking about 1941 since you don’t even bother to mention that the German army was defeated in 1943 at Stalingrad. Not knowing the exact date of the return of the remains is no excuse since you clearly state that the remains were interned one month before the defeat meaning a rough date around the end of December 1942 and beginning January 1943. So how you should have ended was “Stalin ordered the remains reinterred, bringing an end to the curse and leading a month later to the surrender of the German Sixth army at Stalingrad on January 31st 1943” see how neat and tidy that would have been.

    • @danaphanous
      @danaphanous 5 лет назад

      @nlpjohn I also assumed you meant the remains were returned quickly and thus the "one month" was only a few months after the first date you mentioned. It is a logical inference. After all, you say "not wanting to take any chances", implying Stalin was worried about the curse and returned them. If he was truly worried why would he wait more than a year?

Just like Turkmen that live in Russia can still be Russian in terms of nationality but not Russian in terms of race & ethnicity.

    One Punjabi contemporary poet described the rule of Nader as a time “when all of India trembled with horror”.[84] The Kashmirian historian Lateef described him as follows: “Nader Shah, the horror of Asia, the pride and savior of his country, the restorer of her freedom and conqueror of India, who, having a simple origin, rose to such greatness that monarchs rarely have from birth”.[85] Joseph Stalin used to read about Nader Shah and admired him, calling him, along with Ivan the Terrible, a teacher. In Europe, Nader Shah was compared to Alexander the Great. Starting from a young age, Napoleon Bonaparte also used to read about and admire Nader Shah. Napoleon considered himself new Nader, and he himself was later called European Nader Shah.[86]

      Iran is just a geographical definition, not an identity.The Khitan emperors called themselves the emperors of Turkestan, does this indicate that they were the Turkic empire, or was it the Mongol state ruling Turkistan?Of course it was only the Mongolian state that ruled Turkistan.for example, the British emperor called herself the ruler of India after conquering India.well they were indian state?WTF..The rulers of the Ottoman Turkish empire called themselves the kaiser of Rome.So was the Ottoman state a Roman state?Stop bullshit.

      Even Afshar, the name of the Afsharid state, is the name of a Turkic ethnic group.in other words, she gave the Nader shah state the name Afshar, which means Turkic race.Although I see them as the Azerbaijani Turkish-Persian state, my discourse will change if you claim that they are only Iranian.

      If you live in Iran you are Iranian, if you live in India you are Indian, if you live in Europe you are European.but this does not change the identity of the state you have established, it only changes the geography.for example the hungarian state is a european hungarian state.but the Magyar people are originally an asiatic people and not European.so this means that the magyar state is the Magyar state. european is just a geographical definition.You look like a troll who thinks that the IRANIC ethnic group and the states governing Iranian geography are the same.🤣🤣
      During the period of Turkic, Mongolian, Arab, Armenian and Greek states that dominated Iran geography, they called Iran geography as Iran.because that was just a geographical definition.The Seluicid empire was a Greek state that ruled Iran, does that mean they are from Iran?You're just a history thief trying to steal someone else's history.Iran is the most occupied geography throughout history.stop telling us stories and stealing other people's states now.
      The reason why Iran is called Napoleon is that it dominates Iranian geography.The Göktürk emperors were called the Gray Wolves of Mongolia.Was it Mongolian state, mister trol?

      Stalin was the ruler of a state named Russia.it is independent of origin.It is a Russian ethnic identity.The origin of the ruler is not important after the name of the state is Russia.just as it doesn't matter if the king of England is a German.because England is an ethnic identity name.If the name of the state is ethnic identity, the origin of the ruler is not considered. but the name of the Afshar state was AFSHAR, which means Turkic ethnic identity.Do you think it's the same thing?🤣🤣🤣

    One point here, after the invasion of India by Nadir Shah it was the Maratha who would attack Northern india and conquer up to Punjab. It was the Marathas and not the EICo who actually filled the vaccuum you talk of. It was only after the Marathas were defeated in the battle of Panipat in 1761 and the weakening of the rule of the Peshwa that the East India Company actually started to take over. For a brief time, India was dominated by the Maratha Empire. Not directly ruled but under their sway nonetheless.

    One man's trash is another man's treasure. I am Iranian, and we generally look at him as a hero But I remember meeting an Indian guy in Canada. I was with a friend whose name was Nader. I noticed a slight twitch in the Indian's face as he heard the name. He explained later that Nader is known as a bloodthirsty savage in his country- no wonder, after his massacre in Delhi.
    Iranians feel the same about Genghis Khan after his massacres in Iran. I suppose he is a revered hero in Mongolia. But the funny thing is there are many Iranian boys/men named Genghis (Persified to Changiz) even today.

Nader was the shah of iran who conquered, fought and sacrificed for his motherland and returned her to glory by eradication of afghan rule over iran, beating back the ottoman Turks and in return capturing ottoman lands In the name of iran. And then he raided India for giving asylum to those afghans who Nader wanted to punish, and second beacuse they were financing the ottoman empire to fight against iran.
