    Guys, I must correct myself here... I mentioned that one of the dolls wore a white skirt that came with barbie looks model #3. Actually, it came with model #1, but I forgot to correct myself on screen. Sorry if that caused any confusion 😅

    I recently got all the BMR dolls on clearance half off and was really impressed. I feel like a lot of people badmouthed them just because they were made by Mattel. The dolls themselves, fashions excluded, are fantastic. The hair quality, mtm bodies, skin tones and face ups are all spot on. Redressing them is a great way to show how underrated they are.

      Amen! I agree with your entire thought process

    I love how you've restyled the BMR dolls. I love your rant on bodies and how non of us have "perfect" bodies. Well said. I love that you made Simba bald. I have two of those dolls. I made one bald and I kept one of these with his green hair. He's gorgeous bald. I like him clean shaven because he's such a gorgeous sculpt.

      I second all your points! :D

      Simba is still "under construction" for now. As I make tweaks I will try to update here and on Instagram, so others can have some ideas of what the alterations look like on him. Sometimes I study repaints to find inspiration for features I want to customize.

    Nowadays, It feels like the Barbie Looks Line has taken over the BMR1959 Line.

      I share that theory, along with lots of others who say something similar. i love the bmr dolls, less for their fashions and more for the concept. the various brown shades of skintones, the mtm bodies and hair textures. Hopefully, the Barbie Looks collection is some indication that Mattel will keep giving us adults something decent to continually collect... otherwise, i have to return to my old theory that it's a marketing gimmick to quickly boost sales during a decline, and after 1 or 2 more waves, we may never see that quality for another handful of years when Mattel becomes desperate again! LOL ( It's just really exhausting for me continue being a dedicated conspiracy theorist. I would love to retire.)

      No the BMR dolls were DISCONTINUED the reason why idk

    • @BrokenDollyTV
      @BrokenDollyTV  3 года назад

      Exactly... why were they discontinued? There had to be a reason. And even though they didn't market the barbie looks line, until the last minute, mattel already knew they were getting ready to launch. Even as they shut down bmr dolls. But all we can do is speculate. 🤷‍♀️

    I really enjoy seeing how you change the dolls up! I'm pretty new to these fancy ones, mine are mostly from the 70's, 80's and 90's. Still waiting for my new Looks Barbie, suppose to be here this week! We will see!

    That green-hair Ken looks AMAZING bald and without make-up! It's official, I'm getting one and doing this. Any advice on how to remove the eyeshadow without destroying the eyes, like you've done? And was his head smooth like that under the flocking, or did you have to fix him up? And how did you remove that notoriously-difficult paint without leeching color from the latex itself? Any advice on how to replicate this result would be amazing.
    EDIT: I'd also really love to know your technique for washing product out of Barbie hair, because your red-headed Ken looks GREAT. I have one myself (as well as that blonde long-haired Fashionista Ken who I've rebodied onto the recent wheelchair Ken, and he's got a ton of product in his hair too for some reason) and I'd love to replicate that look.

      I will be doing a close up of the new details I have added to this dude. I did some work to his eyes, make them a bit more defined and some shading and facial hair... I didn't wanna cover his face up so I just gave him a light goatee. I just used regular acetone/nail polish remover for getting rid of the flocking. I also used a tiny bit of cotton on the end of a toothpick to erase his eye makeup. juts need to be careful to go slow and steady, it helps to have a set of magnifying goggles when doing any sort of repainting on tiny faces.
      As for hair gel removals... I literally just wash it out with real shampoo and conditioner, using warm water or hot water, depending on how bad it is. That normally does the trick. But to make the hair more fluffy and smooth, liquid fabric softener rinse is good too. For dolls with flocking on the sides, I cover the flocked parts with a towel, then use a wet toothbrush to rinse out the gel in specific parts of the rooted hair. I don't use soaps for this kind of hair style, just warm water until the hair isn't sticky anymore.

      @@BrokenDollyTV I honestly liked the 'bare' look the doll had in the video, so I may stick with that. I've never done any painting like that before, and I'm worried my hands aren't the steadiest. I plan on blocking off the part of his eyes I want to save with tape (masking, scotch, what do you suggest?) before I try to remove the eyeshadow and lashes. So good to know it's so simple! Thank you for the response. I can't wait to try this!

      I would probably go with masking tape, to be safe. Be sure to test out on a reject doll first, in case it messes up the paint, but I think it will be ok.

      @@BrokenDollyTV I will! I have a few spares lying around that I used for bodyswaps, so I'll use the heads from those. Thank you for the advice.
