I would sell my left kidney to a homeless man to get a movie that faithfully goes over Grievous origins in legends and finally gives him the respect he deserves.
Honestly, before tales of the empire came out, I thought a season 2 of tales of the Jedi would be great as a slight origin story for him, just from the Jedi perspective since they would be the ones that cause him to become evil and we would see further corruption in the republic like in season 1
Grievous is the kind of villain who has every bit of potential to be genuinely badass and horrifying. We got a glimpse of that in 2003. He was just never dealt the right hand to show it. His little time in Tales of the Empire was a good start, a badass design and a bunch of random people for him to ruthlessly slaughter. If any character should be the next to get their "renaissance" and get a second chance to be loved by the fans, kinda like Hayden's Anakin, it should be Grievous. I would love nothing more than to see him get his due character treatment. I still have a nostalgic love for him because he was my favorite growing up, but I would love to feel the same way about him as someone like say Vader or Maul when they show up. Excitement for some badass ruthlessness, and fear for whoever's gonna be in their way.
Well, good news - there's a very long and detailed fic doing just that! Read Sahuldeem by Inonibird on AO3, it's extremely well-written and faithful to Legends. There are six parts and it goes from his childhood to death. I would highly recommend it :D. It has better writing than a lot of published books.

Tales of the Empire made Grievous more terrifying than ever. He definitely deserves his own movie and/or series. Don’t you think? Happy May the Fourth to you all.
Grievous is everything I ever wanted out of not the main villain, but out of their 2nd in command. A general with tactical skills, brutal in combat as a commander and duelist. Capable of fending off sizable attacks all in his lonesome and with a humorous yet intimidating personality that makes you forget that they are not the main villain. Also he has 4 arms, funny stompy legs, and looks damn good in a cape.
I'm always so happy to see so many other people adore Grievous just as much as I do. Wonderful character who I hope gets his own episodes and movie someday.
The general grievous I know put fear into jedi masters, cleared rooms easily, he wasn't a twirly mustache villain. Wish we got more of the 2003 grievous
Mix of both would had been nice. An absolute monster in battle and in comand, but if needed a twirly mustache villain, to complete the mission or when facing a bigger group of skilled jedi. The clone wars had such moments, but most of the time he was simply depicted poorly. Outsmarted by Gungangs and captured, defeated by a dualist worst than Obi Wan (What also makes sending obi wan to kill grivous a no brainer, beccause acording to canon the second best dualist could had won much faster than kenobi and having kenobi for emergancys in deposal would had nailed palpatines coffin.), robbed of beeing the murderer of multiple concil members, shown without the pride of an warior what was a core part of his personality and probely the worst, shown as a weekling that was defeated by a bunch of younglings supported by ashoka. George lucas changed him to make it more child friendly, while also adding in a second breath barely clothed padme, barbecu anikin and, ironicly, one of the most painfull deaths that could had killed grievous.
"What have you to show for your power, what have you to gain?" "The future! A future where there are no Jedi!" minor spoilers for Tales of the Empire below: . . . . . . Grievous in the first episode was so fucking terrifying, bro was literally laughing his ass off slaughtering the Nightsisters, even mocking Morgan Elsbeth shouting RUN and laughing as he's going on a killing spree. Hopefully this means we'll get more content with him being that menacing.

I would be so happy if his Legends story became canon and we could see how he became a monster by can’t letting go of the grief he felt at the death of his wife. Hence the name he took. “Grievous”. It would make him such a great paralell to Vader as both lost themselves over the loss of their loved ones.
It's nice to have so much attention brought to my favorite star wars character on May the 4th! It's been a bumpy road for his portrayals but I got an endless love for general Grievous be it canon or legends and I appreciate the vid!

I think the most impressive fact is that you have gathered all the clips, created this, edited it and posted it all within 24 hours of Tales of the Empires release. Wow! Same with the Crosshair edit.
I learned of Grievious's full backstory and I honestly feel pretty bad for him. He had good reasons to hate Jedi. Dude is also an amazing warrior, being able to fight multiple Jedi at once and somewhat come out on top.
Mad respect to a villain who needs nothing more than to murder and pillage to be happy. Man knows what he wants. "I am not in this war for Dooku's politics. I only live to see you die!"
Grievous might be the most tragic character in Star Wars. For those who are interested and don't know: Grievous used to be a Kaleesh warrior named Qymaen jai Sheelal. His homeworld was subjected to a brutal invasion by the Huks, who slaughtered millions of Kaleesh people and turned their planet into a bombed-out, nearly uninhabitable ruin. Sheelal (Grievous) fought as part of a guerrilla resistance force, and eventually came to lead this force alongside the love of his life, a warrior named Ronderu lij Kummar. When she was eventually killed in the fighting, Sheelal, whose brilliant victories had forced the Huks to withdraw from Kalee, led a retaliatory invasion of the Huks' homeworld as retribution for their atrocities. The Kaleesh were winning quite handily, until the Huks, who had never before shown interest in joining the Galactic Republic, sent an envoy to the Jedi, pleading for military intervention on behalf of the Huks in exchange for joining the Republic. The Jedi immediately accepted, making no effort whatsoever to understand the context of the conflict (namely who started it, or what atrocities they had committed). A short time later, a Jedi-led Republic coalition force arrived and obliterated the Kaleesh forces. Sheelal's reason for hating the Jedi is not only clear, but extremely justified: the Jedi, at best through willful ignorance or at worst through cold, calculating pragmatism, chose the side of the aggressors who had unjustifiably ravaged the Kaleesh homeworld and slaughtered their people. As if that wasn't enough, they annihilated what remained of the Kaleesh forces after years of hard guerrilla warfare on the ruins of their planet. With this context, it's easy to understand how someone like Grievous could have become what he is now. He doesn't really have a homeworld to return to anymore, amd the people who destroyed it have been allowed to join the Rebublic, and are therefore militarily untouchable. What remained of the Kaleesh military was destroyed by the Jedi, and so whatever third-world hellhole Kalee is today, it will only continue to get worse with no military or government to maintain stability or fend off invaders. Grievous piled on the cybernetics and became a hollow shell of his former self because he has nothing left to lose and nothing to return to. He lives for one purpose and one purpose only: to destroy all of those who took everything from him or die trying. I don't believe Grievous sees any future for himself outside of this purpose. In fact, hypothetically, if he ever did fulfill his purpose and kill the last of the Jedi, I believe he would see no reason to go on living. In his own sad, hateful way, I believe Grievous sees himself as something of a hero; in his mind, he is the one person in the galaxy who will work harder and sacrifice more than anyone else to ensure that, someday, there will be no more Jedi, and what happened to his home will never happen to anyone else again. He relishes in the pain and suffering he inflicts on his enemies, namely the Jedi, because he knows that it pails in comparison to the lifetime of constant pain and death his people have been subjected to at their hands. It's hard not to see things from his perspective, even though, ultimately, any atrocities he commits will never be able to erase or correct the ones he has suffered, and will instead only perpetuate the cycle of conflict and suffering he is trying to break.
I love everything about this character. The fact that he starts as someone who fights for his people to protect against evil oppressors, to becoming that very thing. He's not in the war for politics or a peaceful end, he's ONLY there to kill as many people as he possibly can. He's a product of both the Jedi, and Sith's corrupt ways. And ironically, he's the only Star Wars villain to get his wish of a future with no Jedi. He's a living, breathing killing machine who fights with such ferocity and unorthodox methods that he's practically a boogeyman to the Jedi. In a series with villains who are mostly stone cold, calm and brooding, it's awesome to see one who cackles wildly on the battlefield. Vader, Maul, Ventress etc were only fighting because they felt they had to. Grievous was doing it for fun.
Clone Wars gave us a Jedi killer who had no force powers but enough hate and venom to kill them by the hundreds. And truly the precursor to what Anakin would become.
2003 Clone wars introduced Star Wars' most badass villain ever, only to be tuned down literally everywhere else out of fear that he'd be more popular than existing villains despite his medium-sized role.
Grievous animated with a cape during a fight just makes him so much more badass. He lowkey stole Tales of the Empire or lets say he added it to his badass collection.
