Flick Pick movie review - War for the Planet of the Apes, starring Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn, Amiah Miller, Karin Konoval, Terry Notary. Directed by Matt Reeves.
Baby Driver, SpiderMan Homecoming, War for the Planet of the Apes, Dunkirk... Man, this month has been awesome!
*Finds out that Emoji movie comes out next week*
Aw fuck off.
Phil Michaels that will only add to the quality of the month fuck you mean bruh
Phil Michaels despicable me 3
We also have atomic blonde which is suppose to be great
Atomic blonde is supposed to be James Bond turned into a girl
Phil Michaels He gave B+ for Baby Driver and War
This movie was good but I still prefer Dawn over this
same
Brands same bro
In my opinion it wasn't that good.
But defenetly one of best trylogies in recent years
yh
The Great EscApe
I hate you John, this is my fav film of the year 😭😭😭
Jk keep up the good work dude! Your reviews are awesome!
what? B+ is a great score
Even though I still like the first one the most, I think War is the best out of the three. I'm glad they didn't have a huge action scene; I thought the third act was the weakest but only because of the battle. They could have made the fighting better, but the best things about this movie was the slow-paced stuff; getting to know the characters, finding their motives and connecting with them.
Funnily enough, I actually noted everything you stated here when I watched the movie. I thought the gorilla's death was rushed, and how nobody noticed the empty cages until the entire base was almost evacuated was a little dumb. The first one will still remain my favourite, probably because of these reasons and more.
Is it safe to say that John does a Morgan Freeman, Bane or Mark Wahlberg impression in almost all videos? No matter how many times I see them, it still makes the video great.
This movie was fantastic. Best of the entire series and one of the best hidden gem films of all time
You should Review "Kingpin." 'We don't have a cow. We've got a bull.
Love the popcorn trivia app
I usually correspond movies that have the word "War" in the actual movie title; will probably not have "war/war" in the actual movie; which does make me a little nervous for the Infinity War movie(s); which is going to be more adapted from the Infinity Gauntlet.
Plus MCU kind of already lied to us once with the title Civil War; which was more like a Civil Scuffle; although wonderful movie but the title was misleading for sure compared to the original source material..
I give your performance a C-.
This movie was a prequel to the original 1968 movie.
Battle scenes get boring after about 5 to 10 min. This was a thinking man's movie. Cerebral and emotional. The best movies are.
This movie was a grand slam. All the characters well fleshed out. Even the Donkey had his own story of conflict. Genius
so many people are divided over your freeman voice. it's like the skyrim civil war
I thought it should've been called escape of the planet of the apes, but still a great flick to watch it kept me guessing how are these apes going to get out of this place. Oh yes Matt Reeves knows what he is doing when it comes to film and can't wait to see his take on the upcoming Batman solo movie as well.
I also hope you can get to a million someday
Supposedly Ben Affleck is moving out of the Batman role and Jeffery Dean Morgan might take it
yo John! i really like your content and i want you to succeed, but why do you upload reviews 2 weeks after the movie is out? if feels outdated a bit, and i'm sure it has an effect on your channel growth and you deserve to grow faster! just my opinion.... anyways, thanks for the review! great, as always :D
He said it before, he makes videos when he wants to. Meanwhile other rush out vids for views.
The humans are fighting each other over the planet that already belongs to the apes. They are also fighting the apes. Ergo, war FOR the planet of the apes.
Why is that John has less subscribers than Stuckman? He's way better.
Andy Serkis is a God.
I love KINGPIN I was way to young to be watching it but it became a movie I will always remember
By the way ur not funny jokes make them fucking funny !!! Lmao
Great job man
Babe: Pig in the City
This movie is the best of the trilogy, a masterpiece, it's an A+... Disappointed..
WATERSHIP DOWN
Hi
Second one was better
This movie aped Bridge of the River Kwai
I thought War was better than Dunkirk
bit late right?
Man.... WHY YOU HAVE TO SAY THAT CAESAR IS IN PRISON FOR A HALF OF THE MOVIE??? DO YOU REALIZE THAT IT IS A BIG FUCKING SPOILER AND SOME OF US HAVEN'T SEEN THAT MOVIE??????
Just a click away of unfollow this channel
Ur so late with this review
This movie was a masterpiece! A+
However the title War, didn't fit the actual story.
As John said, it was more an internal war, a psychological one rather than a physical one. I didn`t mind that, I alos consider it to be a masterpiece, so far, my number one of this year.
bobwatters Really, 100% predictable? Like how they had a very long and epic climactic battle between the humans and apes? Oh wait...
I agree.
bobwatters Bro I hate trollers so much
bobwatters bro you're so good at predicting bro. Can u give me some tips, cuz I couldn't predict a single thing bro
I've gotta say im a bit surprised at a B+ but its not bad score at all. I think this APES trilogy has turned into one of the most solid trilogies we've had in a long time.
Which is odd: Every single time I watched a trailer for them before they came out, I felt they always looked good, but lacked something. Then I see the movies and im blown away each time, odd series.
What Freak
I agree. I didn't really have hope for this trilogy and yet it kept meeting my expectations.
Three good films overall.
I would honestly give it an A....this movie was truly deep
@@ClassicDiva33 A+
This movie is a masterpiece
cameron A masterpiece of mediocrity, maybe
Of course it's an a masterpiece I loved this movie so sad but so amazing you feel for these character these CGI apes and everything that they are going through they are running out of time
cameron not even close to one
BrazzersNL Can you tell me these plot holes?
+cameron You mean the original 1968 movie is a masterpiece.
I knew as soon as he cleared his throat he would do the Morgan Freeman voice
Harmonical Vengeance Of course, I wouldn't expect any less
I know, I know this is late.... Watch my new review for DUNKIRK ruclips.net/video/aXz-0vMcPRk/видео.html !
still no baywatch review john...i guess you don't like male bodies covered in baby oil ....
theFLICKpick HOMEWARD BOUND!
theFLICKpick war of the planets of is a masterpiece.
The title is perfect. The war is between the humans. Not the apes. FOR the planet of the apes. And it was on the move even before the apes got in the middle of it.
This is a movie during a war ABOUT a war. Not necessarily a traditional war movie. Was great
I loved this movie and would give it an A+. I don't know why people are getting so hung up on the title. There is definitely a war in the movie, just because it doesn't play out in stereotypical Hollywood fashion that doesn't make the title wrong!
Showing long-lasting cruelty against another race is more reflective of war than battle scenes, and if that action wasn't enough for you, I don't know what is.
Ok so I've come up with a theory for why you make the best reviews on RUclips: Most of the other reviewers have too much respect for the scores that movies receive on rottentomatoes.com. Your review scores deviate from that website the most, why is this relevant? I've noticed that over the last 5 years, the scores on rottentomatoes have been getting progressively more and more unreliable. Whether the critics they allow on the site have become more and more influenced by money etc.. I'm not sure. I only know that I used to rarely disagree with a movies' tomatometer, but recently I disagree with it quite frequently. Lesson learned: Please continue not letting rottentomatoes influence your reviews.
I have a chrome Terminator 2 bust just like yours with the eyes that light up and sfx. Never knew until recently that it holds dvds. I bought it without the movies from eBay. I love that thing.
War doesn't necessarily mean things blowing up every 5 seconds and people being shot left and right. It was more of a cold war.
Thank you John that was more accurate.. however I found the movie missing the logic in many cases for me it is C-
B+ is a really good score, what are you guys complaining about lol.
Thanks John. I really enjoyed playing popcorntrivia
Rise is the best one🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣no freakin way🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣its shit but the other two are great
So...basically Dunkirk is the better "War" film than War for the Planet of the Apes 🤔
John's ratings:
Dunkirk:A+
WarForThePlanetOfTheApes:B+
Yes that is exactly right.
bro what are you weighing now? how much mass did you lose?
i love you man your channel really deserves more subs😢
This film is better than Dunkirk
Technically brilliant, but as a conclusion to the first two films, this was such an anti-climax. This should literally have been a world war between apes and humans, with apes driving tanks and flying fighter jets across the planet. Instead, the apes 'world' is just a small section of backwoods America, with a small community of apes, riding on horseback. Such an odd, small scale conclusion.
Dawn was the best, then this one and rise was the worst (but still good) in my opinion.
The original is still the best best, though. Nothing can top it!
completely agree , first one is the best
Wanted to say that i enjoy your videos so much there fun as hell and good stuff. I usually go back and watch your other videos at night time because it feels like an actual like tv show sorta thing on youtube :) My favorite movie with a lead animal is lion king and disney's robin hood, as well as the aristocats
Babe is pretty rad! and is directed by George Miller the legend that brought us MAD MAX FURY ROAD
Shawshank RedAPEtion!!!!!
I love War for the Planet of the Apes, along with the two prequels. My favorite movie with a talking animal as the main character is probably one of these three movies, as I can't think of another movie I've seen with a talking animal as the main character at the moment.
@theFLICKpick Have you heard of Snupps? it's a free app that lets you share movies, games, music, comics, basically anything in your collection.
I forgot just how much I liked Sour Patch Kids when I went to see this movie and bought a pack
I really did enjoy this movie and Caesar played by Andy Serkis he did a great job in this movie and he was awesome too in this movie and it was sad to see him died at the end of the movie and he was a good ape too he will be missed RIP Caesar you were a good leader Ape and Colonel played by Woody Harrelson he did a great job as the main villain in this movie and he was awesome too as this character but he was waste in this movie though and I wanted more of him too and the way he died was disappointing too I was hoping for a epic showdown between Colonel and Caesar too and they never had a chance to fight too so disappointed man and moving on Bad Ape played by Steve Zahn he did a great job in this movie and he was so hilarious too in this one and he cracks me up too and I like his character too in this movie and Nova played by Amiah Miller she did a great job in this movie too and she was so adorable little girl too and she was a cutely too and she is a good actress too and Cornelia played by Judy Greer she did okay job but she barley in this movie though but then she dies at the beginning of the movie and that sucks to see her character gone and she was so good for this role too but it was so good to see her character come back in the sequel and Lake played by Sara Canning she did a great job in this movie too and she was awesome too in this movie but she was barley in it though but she was still good when she was on screen tho and can’t believe it’s been 6 years now since this movie came out and time sure does flies in the movie world that’s for damn sure bro and overall I’m gonna give War of the Planet of the Apes (2017) a 9.5/10 stars I really did enjoy this movie for what it was but it could of been little bit better than it should of been but it’s better than the first movie but it’s nowhere as near as good as the 2nd movie but that just me though in my opinions and thoughts on this movie John the Flick Pick bro
Hey guys I'm going to the cinema in two days. Which movie should I watch: War for the Planet of the Apes or Dunkirk?
Early for some pizza🍕
I have a few negatives like why place flammables and explosives next to your wall? Also, that human on human battle scene at the end, you'd never see a battle formation like that rush in, all bunched up together.
My favorite movie with the main character being a talking animal is: BATMAN! That bat is just so damn life like.
I had major feels in this movie... and I felt conflicted because the heroes are the apes, I felt bad seeing some die, what finally happens... but at the same time, I get the colonel and his motivations.. after all, WE are the ones dying off so it should make sense for us to root for the humans. Either way, I loved this movie, felt sad when some apes died, and the ending was sad.
War For The Planet of The Apes was phenomenal John. I agree that Mat Reeves should have invested more time in an epic battle sequence but the movie was an amazing experience in Real D 3D. I booked my ticket online through Regal Crown Cinemas. I purchased a special one night screening for all three Planet of the Apes films. Rise, Dawn, & War was the slogan for the triple feature ticket I bought and I have to let you know it was an enjoyable experience John. To see all three films simultaneously one after another weaved this beautiful tapestry of an epic film franchise that will be dear to my heart for a life time. I also got a collector's RISE , DAWN, & WAR movie poster.
This week's Box office is strong. Apes, Dunkirk, Spiderman, Baby Driver, and Wonder Woman still following strong. Take that Bayformers.
It's a war film 100%, calling it a prison film is almost offensive. Enslavement, concentration/death camps, genocide are clearly associated with war which is the main focus of this film. I'm curious as to how this doesn't classify as a war film? War isn't just about battles and fighting. It's technically on the level of a James Cameron film in terms of its execution. It's a tough story but a story worth telling. A+
Maybe it's a war in a different sense, like a struggle for survival of their species so it's a war but you're right, it's no war film.
Yes. There was a point where it sort of felt like "A Man Escaped". Something like a prison escape film.
John, you could advertise for Popcorn Trivia, but if you're into trivia, have you ever considered competing in the Movie Trivia Schmoedown? You might just kick ass!
First
Just kidding fuck that
I'll be surprised if a standalone "Bat-fleck" movie ever sees the light of day. I know you liked him as Batman John, but I did not. He could't hold a candle to Bale or Keaton.
I would say War is the perfect title for this movie. The war in Caesar's head from deciding whether he wants to kill the colonel and be like Koba or just save his apes. Because all he really cares about is killing Woody Harrellson. But I loved this movie, truly is a masterpiece imo
I have to agree with John that Rise is the best but War is the worst. Not god awful but pretty boring at times. I gave it a 5/10
Dawn is the best one, War is second best, and I actually think rise is the worst one
You know what man, I am so glad I am not the only one that felt a liiiiitle disappointed about the hole war thing. As a final conclusion to the new ape trilogy I think it would've been just a little bit better if it actually did end with a war of apes vs humans. Not longer then the final battle of the film, but atleast 15-20 mins would've been very satisfying
Other than that awesome film it was
Once or twice a year I watch kingpin. It sucks that randy quad isn't doing much anymore because he played perfect in that movie with woody. Not to mention woodys and bill murrys hair is hilarious!
I really enjoyed the hell out of the film, and I do understand where you're coming from with the title. Maybe "Survival of the Planet of the Apes" would have worked as an alternate title.
I seriously don't understand people. Everyone is saying you hated this movie. You gave it a B+ that's a great score! I just don't get it. You either absolutely love something, or absolutely hate it.
Ever since I saw this movie when people ask me how it was, I always casually reply with "Escape From The Prison Of The Apes was pretty good."
That popcorn trivia app is fun. I wish it was mixed categories and not by film, but overall it's fun to build your movie trivia knowledge.
Hey John, when do u do another flickcave update video? saw a picture of your new big badass TV! greetings from germany :)
My favorite talking animal? Simba for sure, ...if that counts:/
I really didn't like this movie that much ngl. I almost fell asleep at the first act, second act got progressively better and better and the third act was great. I felt as the story was a drag but the CGI and cinematography was amazing.
Just watched it. I thought it was a bit slow in parts. Kids in the cinema laughed at BadApe every time he came on screen, but didn't do much for me. Agree with the ranking here.
I think I've seen you do about 1000 Morgan Freeman impressions at this point
Hey, John! If you love Movie Trivia so much, you should be a part of the Movie Trivia Schmoedown!!
I hated the second one of this trilogy so much that I refused to go see War For The Planet Of The Apes. But after hearing your view on it I think I will go see it or buy the dvd when it comes out.
You gave B+ to two arguably best movies of 2017- Baby Driver and War. You are hard to please.
The Lion King
It isn't a FlickPick review without a Morgan Freeman impersonation !! 😂😂😉
John did you here the rumors about ben affleck stepping down from the role of batman for the future batman movie? Not sure how true it is but if it's true who would you want to take his place as batman?
Dawn of the planet of the apes was more of a war film than war of the planet of the apes. Overall I agree with the rating. I wish I could have seen more war but at the same time war already happened in Dawn and this movie was about survival and perseverance. Caesar had his arch and it was remarkable . I still loved it
False. War is a good title because in history, there has been a war without a battle. Don't ask me which war it was, I found out about this during school.
Not enough love for Kingpin, its a hilarious movie!
Man no word of a lie i watched Kingpin just befor watching this Review... I was spooked!!
I understand the want for a bigger final battle in this movie. I was hoping it would be a big battle like in the final one in avatar. between the apes and humans. but I guess there was no way Caesar would have an army large enough to fight.
Thanks for the review. I haven't seen this yet, but your comments sort of confirm my feelings on the trailers and storyline.
This is a WAR for survival and wich all life is dragged in this WAR like bad ape and nova had no place to be in this but they ended up like they are now
