I miss the Beastie Boys. Growing up - listening to 'License to Ill' on my Boombox as a kid while riding my skateboard in 1987, was the best time in my life.
I was born in 87, started listening to Beastie Boys at the same time I got onto my Nash skateboard at around 5 years old.. By the time I was 15 I was skating down the street with a Shorty's board and a 40oz of beer in my hand. Heading over to the spot.
fell that! same af bud! Licensed to Ill dropped when I was in 5th grade (I didn't know ANYONE who didn't at least have a taped copy whether they were skaters, headbangers, into hip hop, pop, even the country music kids were even listening to that shit! ONLY teachers and parents and cops didn't go wild for Brass Monkey and You Gotta Fight...) they changed the WORLD! 3 white kids from Brooklyn and a fresh DJ M.M. Mike. Legends.
I feel for these guys. What a terrible shame death had to take Yauch. No justice in it at all. They have been robbed of their friend AND their band. They will be okay, they will reconcile to it, but it really should have been different.
I heard in one interview that they don't have any plans to release anything as they believe they have released everything that was ever any good or even worth releasing, and that there isn't anything for fans to wait on, nothing of completed tracks laying around that didn't already come out, and if there was it was released not because of not finding a home for it but that it wasn't any good. Which was hard to hear, and harder to believe as a major big time life long fan, who had been hoping for some sort release of cuts, or even jams that a true fan would still eat up, and a part of me still holds some hope that they are just trying to preserve the quality and don't care to without yauch, but somehow change their minds but I'm certainly not holding my breath any longer as I've been blue long enough
@@BigSmiley0TV I heard, and read,a few years back.that they have a single called the JERRY LEWIS.that was never released. In fact,it was one of the DUST BROTHERS,that found it in a storage room.He said the BEASTIE BOYS,didnt wanna release it at the time.fearing that it would ruin their career.because it sounded too pop.If I'm not mistaken it was originally supposed to be on PAUL's BOUTIQUE.he said, he, being one of the dust brothers,I don't remember which one.said if it was released today,it would be a smash hit. My first 2 cassette tapes were Beastie Boys License to ill and Run Dmc Raising Hell. Although I thought the album was called illin. So weird. Anyway years later I was working as a health advisor in a health food store and helped a really nice lady with a minor health concern. We would chat every so often and became friends. One day she came in with a Run DMC shirt on and I pointed to it and told her that they were one of my 2 favorite groups as a kid and the very first cassette tape that I ever stole from my older sister. 😁 Then she pointed to Darryl Mac and said..."That's my husband" 😱
truth, I won't name names (*except Rome! ain't no fucking Bradley.... that's probably the worst offense imo) but I can think of so many examples of sometimes even one remaining member (who didn't even write any music) carrying on and on off the tails of the band's successes. Those shows are ALWAYS boring and overpriced. Real talent/originality like the Beastie Boys had couldn't be replicated by a fill-in artist/musician. THERE WILL ONLY BE ONE MCA! Thanks you guys for some of my favorite music and being excellent role models. Keep it 100. MAD Fucking RESPECT! Love... nothing, but love for them! Both Adrock and Mike D got creative projects. They're doing their thing. I'm about it. Aging like fine wine. I'm interested in seeing Adrock act some more. He's natural on camera. He needs that breakthrough role! Don't know if it's even being discussed, but I'd like to see Mike D in some films too. They got so much character. it doesn't need to be about music. They can do so much more. I'm waiting to see what directions they take. All the best to them.
It’s sadly part of the essence they were founded upon. “Three MC’s and one dj”. Like Ad-rock talked about, it would be a price of the puzzle missing. RIP MCA.
That is respect right there… acknowledging that you, yourself are a key member, but knowing you won’t hit that Beasties essence without all three of them. Like trying to make a Cheeseburger without the beef! The bread, the meat and the cheese all awesome on their own, but together they are king!
I loved the B-boys in junior high, but kind of moved on from them when Paul’s Boutique came out when I was entering high school. Then Check Your Head dropped and it was the most Radical transformation I still to this day have ever seen from a band. CYH is probably one the best albums ever made in music history.
Mike D and Ad-Rock should continue their passions as musicians and artists! They would also be great inspiration and guidance to new musical acts. Grand Royal Records??
The 2 needs to continue as Beastie Boys and just sing the songs without MCA like "Sabotage" & get a guest bass player then play their funk catalogue like "The Mix-Up" album & other funk/ punk songs they have. They are doing MCA a disservice & should play as a tribute to MCA or have a fund for him for cancer patients.
He literally put in his will that no commercials of his stuff. He didnt mention to the other members not to continue as Beastie Boys? Weird. Why didnt they figure this out?
I think Mike D and Ad-Rock would not make another Beastie Boys record out of respect for MCA those guys really did love that dude it's like they want to keep the name and Legacy alive like it is and don't make another record because you and I know it wasn't going to be the same without MCA at MCA was the glue that held the group together not a blue is gone what's the use of making another Beastie Boys album without him now Mike D and Ad Rock what would make an album with LL Cool J then you got something but I know they won't make another record without their Brother I knew I wouldn't I mean these 3 guys they've been through a lot of stuff together and when MCA died I knew and my spirit their heart wasn't in it anymore because they know they wasn't going to make another Beastie Boys record without Him
I think they should make new music but not under the Beastie Boys name but definitely continue do different things absolutely I was lucky to see Mike D I didn't get to see the Beastie Boys but I got to see Mike D open up for Eminem that was amazing so yeah I would love for them to do something
