U also seem to be having some strong views on the 1965 War. The facts and figures of the 1965 are there. It depends on some very spirited ppl like u to dig them out from the dust smeared pages of history. I must admire ur spirits as an infantry officer determined to bring to light various aspects of the operations of 1965 War that had taken place during the Bharat-Pakistan-War - 1965.
I think I must point out the mistakes noticed by me in ur description of the 1965 War. Let us take the Lahore/Kasur Sector. U have narrated that Lahore was being attacked by 15 Bharati Division. But another division was attacking Bedian Kasur Sector in support of 15 Division. U have omitted the mention of the Bharati 7 Infantry Division. Over all Lahore/ Kasur area was being attacked by three Bharati Infantry divisions and the Independent Armoured Brigade ( 15, 7 and 4 Mountain Divisions) u have correctly mentioned that Bharati Army Chief Gen JN Chaudhry on noticing the direction of Pakistani 1 Armored Division advancing towards the Beas Line had issued instructions to his generals , “ Be ware of this monster. I m aware of of its capabilities and we should fall back to the Beas Line to fight against it. On that u have said here that Gen Gur Bux had said to Gen Chaudhry that they would fight from there and we should not give so much of area to Pakistan without a fight. May I correct u by saying it was not Gen Gur Bux Singh who had said that to Gen Chaudhry. Gen Gur Bux was merely the GOC of 4 Mountain Division. It was not said by the 11 Corps Commander Lt Gen JS Dhillon either. It was said by Lt Gen Harbakhash Singh the General Officer Commanding - in -Chief of their Western Command. Now let us talk of the Iccho Gill Canal. The Bharatis had no control over the flow of water through the Icchhogil Canal. U r seriously mistaken here. In their minds they called the BRBL Canal as the Icchhogil Canal. So much of water had been spilled out of those distributaries because of the tank tracks churning action while crossing and recrossing of those small distributaries.

Abdul Ali Malik was a Brigadier in 1965. He was commander 24 Brigade( now known as the Chawinda Brigade). In 1971 War he was a Major General and was commanding 8 Division in area east of Deg Nadi.

It is extremely unfair to single out 1st Armoured GOC Maj. Gen. Nasir Khan for the debacle of Asal Uttar. Surely people senior to a Major General were more responsible; this monumental blunder was a strategic failure of enormous magnitude: • on the battlefield, the 11th INFANTRY Division was not under his command. The GOC of 11th Div. was Abdul Hamid Khan, later Yahya Khan’s number two; and • the battle was fought from 8 to 10 September 1965. Where was PAF; which claims to have achieved air superiority on 7 September 1965, BEFORE this particular battle even started!

It was not only Maj Shafqat who came out to be very brave there were many others who kept on fighting with extraordinary courage grit and valour. Maj Aftab u must keep it in ur mind u have talked mostly of 10 and 11 divisions highly. The units of these divisions ( including the senior tigers had been fighting from behind the BRBL Canal. Ten division was defending on a defence frontage of 45 kms. In Sialkot Chawinda area there was no Nullah no canal and no obstacle. Our 15 Infantry Division was defending a frontage of 300 kms. That was the MAIN EFFORT( Main Attack) by that hugely huge Bharati military juggernaut. On the day of that attack 07/08 Sep 1965 that huge Bharati military juggernaut was 28 times greater in the number of infantry battalions and nineteen times greater in the number of tanks. The objective of that huge Bharati military juggernaut was 78 kms into the depth( Gujranwala/ Wazirabad/ GT Road. That huge Bharati military juggernaut could advance only by 12 kms in 17 days of 65 War. If u wanted to give the example of real hard and tough fights then Chawinda/Sialkot was the place. U have kept on castigating the infantry officers by thinking to be the slaves of Infantry Platoon in Battle. U tell us if u were the GOC 15 Division how would u have have planned to defend a defence frontage of 300 kms?
Col Shafqat Bloch was bravest of all. He refused to come into action against his countrymen in EPak and was sacked.. Nation never paid him back but i did so while at ISSB. HIs son failed but i fought tooth and nail, putting my rank and commission at stake managed to send him to PMA.

About 65 these r my per comments based on info fm vetrans besides my visits soon after war to Lhr-Kasur_Sulemanki secs. Ofcourse my dreams and expectations too hav a lot to do with that. I am sure u wud agree that in 65 our ground and air armament, trg, morals and morale and national spirit were indeed v hi and the reasons for an overall stalemate were basically comd failure. I do appreciate ur thoughtful analysis of Skt Sec about which i didnt comment for obvious reasons. (How about the gen, kith or kin of Aghaji, who wanted to wdr behind the distant canal...) That was fm hindsight but then i personaly saw E. Pak being defended fm W. Pak... a war against own people, a grand Strike force employed for a hide and seek in Changamanga and "unprovoked" fruitless aimless air attks on westren air bases of India. For me all this was enough to conclude that 48, 65, 77 and 99 were all comd failures. Anyhow this is not an awnser to ur learned comments which i do respect

Dear Usman Ahmad Jee we should accept the true facts revealed by Maj Aftab and those and we must confront his incorrect facts. As he has said that by capture of Akhnoor the entire Kashmir valley could have been cut off to Bharati forces. That is wrong ---/ by the capture of Akhnoor only the Rajaurrhi Valley could have been cut off and that too only partially--- as the Chandak Valley Route provided a partial opening to Poonch and Rajaurrhi Valley. The Gurdaspur-Pathankote- Bannohal-Srinagar was still open. That is a question of 8th class geography.

It was not only Maj Shafqat who came out to be very brave there were many others who kept on fighting with extraordinary courage grit and valour. Maj Aftab u must keep it in ur mind u have talked mostly of 10 and 11 divisions highly. The units of these divisions ( including the senior tigers had been fighting from behind the BRBL Canal. Ten division was defending on a defence frontage of 45 kms. In Sialkot Chawinda area there was no Nullah no canal and no obstacle. Our 15 Infantry Division was defending a frontage of 300 kms. That was the MAIN EFFORT( Main Attack) by that hugely huge Bharati military juggernaut. On the day of that attack 07/08 Sep 1965 that huge Bharati military juggernaut was 28 times greater in the number of infantry battalions and nineteen times greater in the number of tanks. The objective of that huge Bharati military juggernaut was 78 kms into the depth( Gujranwala/ Wazirabad/ GT Road. That huge Bharati military juggernaut could advance only by 12 kms in 17 days of 65 War. If u wanted to give the example of real hard and tough fights then Chawinda/Sialkot was the place. U have kept on castigating the infantry officers by thinking to be the slaves of Infantry Platoon in Battle. U tell us if u were the GOC 15 Division how would u have have planned to defend a defence frontage of 300 kms?
Col Shafqat Bloch was bravest of all. He refused to come into action against his countrymen in EPak and was sacked.. Nation never paid him back but i did so while at ISSB. HIs son failed but i fought tooth and nail, putting my rank and commission at stake managed to send him to PMA.

About 65 these r my per comments based on info fm vetrans besides my visits soon after war to Lhr-Kasur_Sulemanki secs. Ofcourse my dreams and expectations too hav a lot to do with that. I am sure u wud agree that in 65 our ground and air armament, trg, morals and morale and national spirit were indeed v hi and the reasons for an overall stalemate were basically comd failure. I do appreciate ur thoughtful analysis of Skt Sec about which i didnt comment for obvious reasons. (How about the gen, kith or kin of Aghaji, who wanted to wdr behind the distant canal...)
That was fm hindsight but then i personaly saw E. Pak being defended fm W. Pak... a war against own people, a grand Strike force employed for a hide and seek in Changamanga and "unprovoked" fruitless aimless air attks on westren air bases of India. For me all this was enough to conclude that 48, 65, 77 and 99 were all comd failures. Anyhow this is not an awnser to ur learned comments which i do respect

Dear Maj Aftab Jee how do u say that an infantry general could not command an armoured division. If an armoured general could command an infantry division then why an infantry general could not command armoured division?
In ur opinion if Gen Nasir had not known about the employment of tanks then all the brigadiers all colonels all the majors were from the Armored corps. Then Gen Ibrar the GOC 6 Armoured Division was from the Infantry. How can u justify ur remarks against Gen Naseer?

Sir, I think you would be agree with me that Command of The Brave Pakarmy has always been in the hands of Coward، corrupt, wrong decision maker and selfish minded Generals since the creation of Pakistan, therefore, today everyone is engaged in defamation of our brave army, whose young officers and soldiers fought bravely every where and defended their motherland and had presented a lot of sacrifices with astonishing victories in the past even during the fall of Dhakka in 1971.
Sir, in our glorious war histiry, there would be a dirty and shameful black spot of surrinder and 90 thousand POWs by the Indian Army on the ambition of the then lecher and traitor Generals and political elements will always make us ashamed.😢

Dear Usman Ahmad Jee we should accept the true facts revealed by Maj Aftab and those and we must confront his incorrect facts. As he has said that by capture of Akhnoor the entire Kashmir valley could have been cut off to Bharati forces. That is wrong ---/ by the capture of Akhnoor only the Rajaurrhi Valley could have been cut off and that too only partially--- as the Chandak Valley Route provided a partial opening to Poonch and Rajaurrhi Valley. The Gurdaspur-Pathankote- Bannohal-Srinagar was still open. That is a question of 8th class geography.
