    I met Rob Paulsen at a convention a couple years back and told him that, even though I've heard his voice in countless things, I always associate him with 625/Reuben. He was pleasantly surprised and went on to tell me, "Ya never know what character is gonna stick with somebody! I'm glad to hear that that's what you know me as." Then as I was walking away to let the next person talk to him, he called after me, in the 625 voice, "Go have yourself a sandwich!"

    My problem with the anime was how they handled the lack of Lilo. If they had given Lilo a proper goodbye where she goes to college and Stitch decides to go traveling instead of it setting Lilo up as an uncaring person, it would have been so much better. Nothing about Lilo's character feels like she wouldn't visit/call Stitch in the 10+ years she's been gone. Even with the miscommunication, I doubt Lilo wouldn't try to repair the relationship or anything.
    They could have just started it off with a "Lilo is at college so Stitch decides to see the world" or had it as a "what if?" series.

      Really? That’s reassuring! I saw like the first episode and refused to watch any further because Lilo & Stitch was basically the most important piece of media from my childhood, and Lilo the most important character, and I just couldn’t stand them trampling all over the theme of loving chosen family like that. I refuse to believe Lilo & Stitch weren’t best friends until Lilo died. I say Lilo because I feel like Stitch is probably immortal unless he has something happen to his genetic code or whatever like almost happened to him in Stitch Has a Glitch.

    • @otaking3582
      @otaking3582 3 года назад +58

      @@thaddeuscramer2312 Yeah, the English dub in general was weird. For one thing, L&S's creator, Chris Sanders, had left Disney to work for DreamWorks because of creative differences over American Dog (the film that would eventually become Bolt), and since Chris was also the voice of Stitch, they had to get someone else to fill those shoes. Also, I'm guessing that Disney thought Stitch's popularity was starting to die off, because the English dub only aired in Australia. At least Legends of the Three Caballeros eventually got released on Disney+, but no such luck with the Stitch anime! (Maybe they just hate anime, considering Corey in the House isn't included, either)

    The best part of the TV series is learning just how petty Jumba is. While building experiments that can become one's worst nightmare or cause planet ending earthquakes, he still makes time to create experiments for the purpose of annoying his neighbors with constant barking or batting rotten fruit into their yard.

    It's kind of funny, I had watched the documentary on the making of Lilo and Stitch and the creator said the ad campaign where Stitch harasses other Disney characters was his idea. Basically, they weren't sure how to market him or introduce Stitch to an audience as a brand new character, since Disney had always used characters that people were already familiar with (excluding Lion King). So he thought it would be funny to have skits where Stitch, whose story is about finding out where he belongs and being a misfit, enters into other well-known movies and messes them up. I don't think it was trying to go along with "it's cool to hate Disney" but was just trying to be a fun and quirky way to introduce this new character that some people might find off-putting at first glance.

    Stitch personifies the anger, destructiveness, and feeling of alienation that children go through when they lose a parent or go through other trauma.
    He is Lilo. They’re the same character symbolically. That’s the brilliance of having him in the story. They can’t just show that side of Lilo, its for kids. So they showed it through stitch, a way for kids to deal with trauma.

    The TV show was pretty decent. I liked how they went all out with the various experiments' designs and abilities, many of which are really creative. It also had some nice moments between the characters, like how Nani and David are still dating while the latter acts as an older brother figure for Lilo, Jumba and Pleakley providing some of the best jokes and helping with the experiment issues, and occasionally showing Lilo still missing her parents. Oh yeah, and Gantu and 625/Reuben also had a fun dynamic.

    I really appreciate that Disney Television Animation cared so much about the production quality of Lilo & Stitch: The Series that even on a TV budget, they make the animation and art look a lot better than earlier Disney Channel series based on movies - The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Timon and Pumbaa, Hercules, The Emperor's New School. You can easily tell that most of the characters and things were drawn and colored in with pencils. Apparently The Series was also popular enough to have 4 different crossovers with other Disney Channel programs in Season 2, and that is part of the reason why I was very sad for Lilo & Stitch to disappear so soon after that and get remade in Japan and China with a localized replacement Lilo. MisterZygarde64 Honestly, they could have explained it so many ways. They could have had it be that Lilo was in college and the dorm wouldn’t let her keep Stitch, and he didn’t want to get her into trouble anymore, so he decided to go on his own adventure travelling the world for a few years, (bonus points that that could have also explained the Chinese spin-off and opened the doors for two more global spin-offs, one for every year Lilo would be in college.) Or maybe there was some sort of experiment phenomenon localized in Japan, but Lilo’s life was too tied to Hawaii, or maybe Lilo and Stitch have a penpal in Japan and Stitch just wants to visit her but Lilo couldn’t go, and then something goes wrong and he has to stay longer. So many possibilities that would have left the message of the original films in tact. Also like... why couldn’t Lilo just come with him? They could have still had the other main little girl be Japanese, and had her and Lilo be best friends who team up, (bonus points for heart-warmingness that Lilo finally gets the friend her own age she always wanted!)

      If memory serves there were a handful of times where multiple experiments were activated in the same time, but yeah, you'd think that would happen more often. In fact, quite a few experiments were unknowingly activated by people, or just randomly fell into water, rather than just being outside when it rains

      Flarestorm There was one episode where Mrs Hasagawa (the recurring tiny old lady character) accidentally activated a whole bunch of them at once, but because she was slightly senile (or possibly just nearsighted) she mistook all of them for weird cats and adopted them.
      And then at the end of the episode they just let her keep them. Including the one that spits acid.

      Luckily, being a tropical island, it never rains. Good thing too. It would be catastrophic if they all activated, but thankfully it doesn’t rain ever, so that was avoided. Tropical islands aren't known for heavy rainfall anyway. Certainly not during typhoon season.

    The reason the anime is so different is that Eastern audiences actually love Stich but hate Lilo because of the way she behaved in the movie and how it could be a "bad influence" on their kids so they tend to omit her from alot of Eastern media. Stich and Scrump are both super popular though.

    • @Ergeniz
      @Ergeniz 3 года назад +2

      Asians are all about conformity, so I understand the aversion to her character. However, there are also plenty of animes where the main characters are rebellious and outcasts from society so it still doesn't make sense. I can only assume her being well, brown is the other reason.

    The fact that Stitch’s Japanese voice actor, Koichi Yamadera is the same as the one for Spike from Cowboy Bebop is awesome to me. Both franchises have references to old music (with Cowboy Bebop being a throwback to the jazz era and Lilo and Stitch having Elvis) and both characters have a red spaceship. Why do I feel like that would be a perfect collab😂
