The Bahá’í Faith teaches that apart from its own vast body of Divine Revelation, the Qur’án is the only other completely authentic scripture currently available to humanity. The Bahá’í Writings, whether from Bahá’u’lláh, The Báb, ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, the Beloved Guardian or the House of Justice are characterized by a consistent and powerful admiration for, references to, and quotations from the Qur’án. It is therefore true to say that there is much Qur’án in the Bahá’í Teachings. During these webinars, we will study the form and contents of the Qur’án as a subject of importance in itself and as a way of deepening our knowledge of the Bahá’í Faith.
    In this talk:
“The Qur’án in the Writings of Bahá’u’lláh & the Báb”
    1 The Báb
    2 Bahá’u’lláh
3 Interpretation as Revelation & the Hermeneutic Spiral

Dr. Lawson: I remember reading (if I am not mistaken) in the Revelations of Baha'u'llah series (perhaps in volume 4) that Baha'u'llah mentioned that (paraphrasing), ...God will be pleased if people spoke Arabic. I have been thinking about the significance of this statement. And I thought that Arabic language - through influence of Quarn and Islamic culture, is a language that could be encoded/interpreted through numerology and is an efficient language due to use of 5 verb-tenses (e.g., vs. English that uses 3 verb-tenses). My own thoughts are that learning Arabic language is to be encouraged because of its structure that promotes use of economy of word and lofty semantics. Basically, my question is whether Baha'i Faith is to continue with use of Arabic language where its foundation was set by Islam? Is one of threads between Islam and Baha'i Faith is through use of learning/using Arabic language?
I hope my question is not confusing. Thank you.

Dear Scholar, Dr. Lawson! I have put onto a page on my Face book account a group called "Understanding Islam." By your appeal to Baha'is to deepen on Islam, just as we have been guided to do this -- to pursue a deep appreciation and reverence for Islam, its history and contributions, and challenges, I wonder if you would look at the flow in this group, and perhaps comment as you would to students, to guide direction or add what you would like to see in such a format. Also, my three published via Medium.com books, on Islam, called "Mighty Wind of Islam" are posted with the Understanding Islam Group and this is another reason I thought to call your attention to this Facebook group. What value do you see in this narrative for a non-scholar presentation of Islam-- an introduction to Islam, as it is. Thank you for your work to this end; I cannot express enough appreciation for your focus on the Qur'an and Islam your part. Tone and presentation carries your passion to attract us to make Islam more a steady part of our own discourse as Baha'is.

We passed on your comment to Todd Lawson. He says "This is wonderful!! I do not use Facebook, unfortunately. Perhaps you could pass this on to Charlotte Solarz. And, that what she is doing is very important. If there are any specific questions or a need for literature perhaps I can help. Feel free to give her my email address, if you like. But, the most important thing is for the friends to study Islam, have classes in Summer School, lobby local school boards to have more Islamic content from Kindergarten to University etc." Best, Todd
Charlotte, please email us at wi@usbnc.org.
