This place really impressed me. It's a sad story but one I was hoping a few get to hear and know.
The house outside and garden still looks beautiful. I was a little nervous knocking the door and going in, people could be staying there. More so on the weekends.
You light a fire and relax quite quickly.
Yes having lights on makes it easier.
I stayed for the night in one about 2 months ago. Grwyne Fawr it's supposed to be the smallest in UK.

Fantastic trip into the Bothy Jamie. It's good you kicked back for a bit and remembered the family. I agree it's given many happy times amid the sadness. I never saw that water source last time I was there - it was dark. Good on you for visiting the gravestones - they know. All the best. Mark

It is such a beautiful old house with sad history. Many people on Wales have no idea about it.
I felt being there whatever bad things we are going in life there is or has been others that have gone through worse.

Jamie, this video was so interesting and so, so sad. Poor Margaret😢 We can't even imagine how she must have felt to lose her husband and children like that. I wanted to find out what had happened to Margaret. Some suggest that, grief-stricken, she was sent to the asylum in Carmarthen - where she killed herself.
“Due to the stigma around suicide, she was refused burial alongside her family at St John’s. 😢 Oh, I hope Heaven does exist and they were reunited.
I love how you did a complete house tour, you should be an estate agent Jamie 😁 It was good to see all that was in there. The red chairs remind me of the local Indian restaurant. Those volunteers do a fantastic job. That was a very large house for a family, I remember my Nan saying there was 6 of us children in one bedroom, you don't know how lucky you youngsters have it these days. 😁 The little churches are beautiful, such a shame they have to keep them locked. We used to love going in the little old churches on Exmoor, now all locked.
Hope you are having a good weekend, at least the sun has come out, last night we had a wicked storm in Bristol 🌩♥

I read and looked up about Margaret before going.
It was so sad seeing the stones and her not in with them.
The cemetery is on the main road.
One day if you get to Elan Valley have a look, it's not far from there.
People stay at the house and don't know the story.
      Thank you for watching.
      Your storm sounds cool❤

The poor mother Margaret isn't even buried with her family.
      They don't have records.
Historinans seem to think she either ended up in mental home or kill herself.
Back then if you committed suicide you weren't allowed to be buried on church grounds.

@ ‘waffle away 🫠 it’s such a tragic heart wrenching story, I’d have topped me sen an all! 💔 Whitby gravestones are fascinating but you can’t read them as the sea winds have erased all the writing away.. I’d like to go up to Grey Friars to see those at some point and to Pere La Chaise in Paris (to visit the almighty ‘Lizard King 🥰) next year I want to drive down to Lourdes so may squeeze that in en route 🙏🏻
I’ve not been Aberystwyth but frequent Dolgellau, Barmouth, Bala & Aberdovey (and up that coast past Tywyn, Harlech etc) but planning to explore more of Snowdonia (I love the ‘Shire as I call it, as soon as I hit the border in Shrewsbury I feel freeee 🤗) Pembrokeshire also looks stunning 🥰 going for a ickle hike myself with the dog today but more locally up in the peaks ❤️

Such a sad story associated with the house though of the Hughes family and that the poor mother wasn’t allowed a burial with her children.

@@JamieHarding5 aww Jamie thank you! I saw your video after seeing another one so it was lovely to see the 2 perspectives. I’ve learned about bothys too lol. I think I may have stayed in something resembling one ones near Bala.
New Quay! My parents caravan was on a farm at Cei Bach. We had several holidays s year throughout my childhood before the elderly farmer sold up. Site is long since gone. How we loved it! I’ve explored much of that coast down to Cardigan and beyond. It’s beautiful!
Have you seen the dolphins at new Quay yet? Cwmtudu is great if it’s raining, the seals come in, and llangranog so pretty with scary caves lol. Tresaith has a waterfall cascading off the cliff if you walk across the beach and round to the right. Took my son camping near there for most of his childhood too as my parents moved their van to Penbryn. A helicopter scene for one of the James Bond movies was filmed over the cliffs there. 🥰

      Good morning Lottie.
That's cool you have been to a bothy.
      There's a few Nant Syddion.
      3 near Elan Valley.
I saw the dams and went the same day to one very near the dams.
      I know Cei Bach well.
Quay West Haven have a site just above the beach now. I walked across from that way about 40 minutes to a big waterfall that goes straight into the sea.
I've seen the dolphins here over the years, beautiful, been to Cwmtydu and Tresaith too.
Didn't know the Bond thing, cool👌👍
It's about 2½ hour drive for me.
      I'm Caerphilly way.
      You wake up early 😂
I woke up 4.30 and I'm just waiting in my tent for sunrise.
      Should be nice from here💚❤️👋

She lost all 7 family members from a disease. The mother is buried with her family. It was a long time ago and nobody really knows what happened with her. Many think she commented suicide, so she wasn't even able to be buried with her family.

I don't want to rain on anybody's parade, but it looks like there is a lot of black mold around this house. It can be dangerous so it's worth testing.

Hello David. Thank you for comment.
      Really appreciate it.
Yes it will have some mold, it's an abandoned very old house with no central heating.
Perhaps once or twice a week someone will camp there and have a fire.
The MBA (Mountain Bothy Association) look after it and do repairs etc.
It didn't smell of damp or anything there.
I was suprised how good condition it was.
