You can get shards weekly from the clan merchant especially for Gregory. There are also many events that give legendary hero shards here and there. It’s extremely tough to luck out and get a lot at once though as f2p

You need 1200 shards
when you use the 10 shards to unlock a hero, that 10 shards will be added up to his talent automatically. So, i think you can still awaken these hero.
