I learned something about warming up the golf ball there! Great tip. However, concerning the damaged club, I'm not sure this is right. If you look at the R&A, rule 4.1a(2) " the player may: Continue to make strokes with the damaged club", except if the damage results from abuse, and except during a play-off in a stroke play.
I agree with you, JBC. However, to be more precise: "Except in cases of abuse, (the player may) repare the (damaged) club or replace it with another club (instead of continuing with the damaged club)." Passages in parentheses added by me. Btw, I am a golf referee...
Good info. Love your discussions about the rules of golf. It helps clarify many of unusual particulars of this demanding sport. Many of them seem to be broken unknowingly but have severe penalties.
Sorry Hannah, but Tony is right about damaged clubs. Rule 4.1A states that you are perfectly entitled to keep playing with that club for the rest of the round. Apart from that, keep up the good work!😊
@@hannahholdengolf The rules are clear that it says "conforming" during the round if an impact causes a great gouge on the bottom. I personally feel that that the odd encounter with a stone should be "normal wear during the course of play". But if it's so serious as to affect play, and not just a nick, maybe not...
Ms Hannah, great stuff, I liked your videos on the MacGregor v max clubs and the Wilson lauch pad 2 irons.. which irons are the most forgiving, I have both sets and they are both very easy to hit!! I can't tell, what do you think
I was accused, as a guest in a men’s international, of waxing the face of my driver for less spin. Now, I do wax the crown to help keep the occasional ball from horribly marking up the top since I tee the ball pretty high. Less friction on the crown and always teeing a clean ball has helped keep the carbon crown nice. This guy’s guest accused me of waxing the face as well. He even told the club pro on me. But, the club pro dunked my driver in a bucket of water and the water beaded up on the crown ONLY. Not the face. Therefore, no foreign substances on the face. He told me I was ok and told the other member’s guest to lighten up. Now a buddy of mine always wipes the outside of his nose that has sunscreen on it…then wipes the face of his driver with the same finger. I think he feels like he’s really stealthy, but I know what he’s trying. We only play for fun and we kid him about it. 😀👍🏻
Had the hand warmer in my pocket last week with the ball next to it. (Cos that’s where I carry my ball too and not for any gain). Wasn’t in any way a serious competition so no harm done but it wouldn’t have occurred to me that this was against the rules. 👍🏻
#1 - well done on smashing through 10k subscribers - BRAVO. #2 - I really enjoyed the content - very informative and should probably be highlighted by clubs in some way to their players. Cheers
I need to clean/sharpen the grooves in my irons. Thank you for the maximum width and depth numbers. Is there a standard method for measuring these? Maybe a go/no go gage or some such?
Someone i played with recently swished his driver in the longish grass around the teeing area before he teed off. He was trying to get a film of moisture on the clubface as he had heard it made the ball go further. !!!
Two questions....Are night ball like the flyer legal? If they are legal can you switch from an ordinary ball if the light dims at the end of a round? Thanks...
I always keep my balls warm with those artificial hand warmers in my pocket, although I keep my golf balls in my cart bag 🤦😆 Jokes aside I never knew that was a rule, and often have a hot hand warmer in the same pocket as my golf balls, I will stop that straight away. Thanks for the info Hannah 👍
10K! Congrats … Interestingly enough - PGA Tour player had a driver club face crack. The rule’s official refused to declare it changed enough to warrant a change of clubs … the official was subsequently roasted on social media.
@@hannahholdengolf As far as I could tell, the ruling was exactly in line with the description in the rule. I saw clarifications afterwards, that at least part of the intent is that the governing bodies want clubs to be robust enough that breakage is rare, including hard to see degradation. So minor breakage is excluded, as an incentive to avoid building clubs that break too easily. A major break, though, is OK to get replaced.
Hi Hannah I was told my grips were borderline illegal. Apparently where I’d not changed them for a while they were changing shape to fit my grip. I’d never heard of this before. Something you’re familiar with?
Yes! The grips have to be round in cross section and can’t have any aids to help you grip it better. If it is worn to your grip it’s classed as helping so not allowed!
A few years back I was playing with a person who was hitting out from behind a tree and instead of the club hitting the tree his hand it the tree. It hurt him at the time, but within a few minutes it was looking swollen and after a couple more (attempted) shots he had to go to A&E, it turned out he had broken a couple of bones in his hand. Moral of the story is be careful when swinging your club near a tree.
It also happened to Ian Woosnam in the 2001 Open Championship. He had been practicing on the range with two drivers. When he proceeded to the tee, his caddie failed to take one of them out. He earned 4 penalty strokes--the maximum. He didn't sack his caddie for it, though. But he did sack him soon afterwards for another lapse. Johnny Miller got hit with this penalty, but it was because his bag had one of his kids' clubs in it! You can even keep a spare ball in your knickers. You just can't apply artificial heat to it. (Insert joke here.)
@@davidlindsaymeakin8331 yes. You can use them in practice and write the number down in a notepad but you can’t use it live on the golf course in a competition
Yes, you can’t use the slope feature on your Laser rangefinder in competition. However most lasers will allow you to switch slope off during competition and have a clear visual indication to let your playing partners know that you have switched it off.
Adjustable clubs, the hosel adjustments are fools gold and just add unnecessary weight. Wouldnt be surprised to see drivers offered without adjustment, using the saved weight to add forgiveness
Depends on the player! For the average club golfer yes the weight saving is probably better but maybe different for tour pros. It’s a trade off! People don’t like it when manufacturers take it away though 😅
Between holes in the cold, I have placed the ball inside my shirt against my warm skin. What could be more natural? I can't imagine being penalized for that???

The warming the golf ball one up is bizarre. Ah good spot, they have tweaked that rule as that didn’t used to be the case.

No need to warm the ball here in Australia.

Regarding club damage, what if when hitting off a path or hard surface and it makes a gouge in the sole?
That’s fine!
