I loved this stuff. I know you're a good dad, husband, hard worker. But this was some of your finest work in videos. I cherish watching and re-watching them
I am into all the cool camping and survival gadgets myself and I try different things to choose what goes into my bugout bag because you can get overloaded quickly and like you say, it is important to test out our stuff to make sure it works. You UK guys rock mate. A big tip of my cowboy hat from Texas!
As always Darren lots of excellent tips and advice. I've said it before in my videos as well, you have to get out and field test your gear because it may fail you when you need it the most. Get some! Ken
+kjumper1 I agree Ken. Good stuff as always Darren. When I watch videos of people showing their bugout bags, it's often easy to tell who has actually gotten out and used it and the contents, and who hasn't, just based on the bag they use and the contents itself. - John
Love your videos mate, just found you and the lady Vee, excellent. This brought back memories of my old basha, I sometimes would string it up about 6-7 feet above a roaring fire, in the pouring rain too. I have used another one to act as a waterproof sheet above my tent, kept me dry as a bone fair play.
You know so much more than I Sir, but may I suggest wearing some kind of safety eye protection. Especially when traversing through woods and brush. I train with some ex Canadian soldiers and that is what they always stressed to me. Cheers from Canada
I often wonder where exactly I'm likely to be going if the shit hit the fan. Unless something happened to my home (flooding is impossible where I live), I'm just going to stay put and spend the first few months turning my place into a farm or scavenging around for solar panels and other stuff I might need to keep thinks ticking over.
Just snagged a deal on ebay 2 IPK for 15 quid , one was 1976 and the other 1987 which I’ll be giving to my dad for his birthday as it was issued the year before he joined
i just sent off for the tytanium 40z nano with the alcohol ledge plate. im also putting a 2oz alcohol stove and a small fuel canister with a 1.5 oz titanium burner. all this in a Stanly cook pot. i like the 360 visual tarp set up and im getting a 4 oz guilly suit.
Hell yes on the Nano. I got the titanium one. You can barely tell its in your hand. Works great with the solder sealed trangia I got with it. Get the canvass bag they sell. High quality. You won't regret it. The white sleeve strikes me as kinda flimsy. I put my stove in it just to keep soot off the sleeve.
you do know the thicker branches and trees, five or six inches in diameter, unless sunk in a creek or river or large standing water, are dry on the inside still. Baton or cut into quarters or more and you have dry wood and sticks to feather.
Love the point of view from across the way, Canadian here in the prairies and we have some real dense boreal forests north. Nice to have a low population density, you can go out into the middle of nowhere and decompress after the daily grind gets to ya.
Where I live a tent is a good thing. We have a large population of coyotes which could cause damage while you were sleeping under a tarp. If not for that I would love to use a tarp.
Enjoyed this first part Daz,on to part two.Just a pointer,probably you`ve covered in past.In a real bugout situation & you`re being hunted,loose all electronic devices,even digi watch.Good stuff.
Pretty cool to see Another guy in your area... i like the music score :o)After rehydrating it is important to let on the preasure...lol.About keeping up appaerances i hope you don't mean me hehehe.I am looking forward to see the rest of the series my friend.
When you're rehydrating freeze dried food your water doesn't even need to be hot. Just warm it about to the point of how hot you want your food to be and you're golden. Now if you're using water from an even slightly questionable source, all normal rules apply, or course.
Oh Funky as always nice video and onto the next in this multi part , The little comments about what your doing and why are vary informative Thanks brother Atb Alan
Hwy funky prepper i have to say that ive been teaching em prep and wilderness survival for a long time abd this is one of the most proper and and rigurus personal shot trainings ive seen on the web. Loved the video had to subscribe and would love to hear from you on face book if possible
Great video Funky, one tip would be to set up your basha once the light is fading. Then there's less chance of being noticed, esp if you wake early and decamp before dawn. Wrap your bergen in the basha and cover with leaves when you've found a good spot, the your free to go for a wonder to find firewood etc :) looking forward to watching the rest now!
Not like we, the bushcrafters and such wouldn't have a good guess already what's in it, it's just interesting to see what and how it's organised for each person, everybody brings in their own style so for the rest is easier to adjust and compile their own kits.
What make is that smock & what are you carrying in it? Seems to have ample pocket space... Cheers from Washington State, USA!! Thanks for the quality testing.
Hiya Darren, Regarding the fire gel, a smaller container would limit the flame and promote a more efficient burn, similar to how small hexi blocks burn more efficiently than the flat slabs.
with my little alcohol stoves, i just get the water to a good steam, i know the amount of fuel i need to do that.... for rehydrating, in a sealed pot, even wrapped up in a scarf, it'll stay hot for ten mins, nicely rehydrate the food, and used no more fuel than i need ! excellent vid as always mate !
Great vid, thanx from the Alabama gulf coast. Coleman's army/ navy surplus may have all ur ss cook ware or Harry's A/N surplus. Again thanx, good to see other folks in other countries think alike.
Here in Canada, I would be terrified sleeping under a tarp like that. I can just imagine waking in the wee hours of the morning to a bears teeth sinking into my face and being dragged out to be ripped apart. I could see it working if I were to place more foliage around the head and foot area as an early warning system. Still would make me nervous.
In UK the largest carnivore is a badger and all the foxes live in the city because easy access to food ,bears and wolfs are killed off more than a couple of hundred years ago .
Lots of valuable information on this video. Close call by a stranger. I wondered about the tracks on the path you took. Sounds and looks like a busy place for bugging out.
brilliant for me as I'm just starting to prep but where is the best place to mountain house food and a decent bergan as I don't trust eBay for food and a lot of other bits any help is really appreciated thanks :)
Very cool video! Cant get myself away from the Crusader and Heavy Cover lid either. Seeing yours at our camp was what convinced me to finally buy one in the end, one of the best purchases ive made!
First of all, been having a You Tube funky-thon. Thanks for that. The wife is ok with it only because it's distracting me from going on about Jeep this and Jeep that. Second...I ordered my weight in Mountain House meals a couple years ago and have been working my way through them on various and sundry outings. Some were delicious, others awful. However...the soy and/or preservatives began to make them intolerable. Maybe they're not for everyone. Still a great source of food in a survival situation and to keep in a BOB. But it did force me to start thinking about alternatives. Foil packets of lentils, tuna, and zip-locked baggies of couscous. In a real survival setting, I would use the AR-7 .22 rifle I keep in my bag to supplement my food. But I rather think the rifle would taste pretty bland. Really enjoy your videos.
Another entertaining video Mr Funky...I've watched a few of your videos now and although I don't agree with much of what you say and less about the all the gear you carry...I truly have to give you 11/10 for enthusiasm and dedication (which in a real situation will carry you a fair way)...I find your films really really entertaining in a good way and I think you do a great service to folks who don't have any idea how to survive in a life changing situation...which I wouldn't be surprised if it happened withing the next few years...so I for one hope you continue making these informational films you really look like your enjoying yourself...lets hope we never have to use our skills in a real mass situation...
Maybe Mountain House is made to hydrate at less than boiling water for when you are at high altitudes. Some good thoughts on tidying away as you go and the order to get set up in.
You might want to look into the Heavy Cover titanium canteens. Pricy, but totally worth it. I treated myself on my birthday and got two sets. Very nice.
Great kit and presentation. I picked up some very good tips. I need a large pack cove like yours but I’m having a hard time finding one. Would you mind letting me know the size, manufacturer and place that you purchased yours? Thanks for sharing.
Darren, I know you backpacked into your location so you're limited to how much you can carry - however you should have taken some camo netting - the type you have used in the past to cover your bug out vehicle. It's not heavy but is great at breaking up the straight lines of you basha. - Many thanks for the nice informative and entertaining video
love your videos mate you inspired me to do my own videos which will be coming soon would love for you to watch them when i uploaded them also your smock idea is great many thanks and keep up the wicked vids my friend.
Brilliant vid, highly appreciated, i know making a vid of the process makes it x4 work for sure, so thanks for all the effort. Trying stuff out for me is so essential, even the stuff you think makes perfect sense doesn't always pan out in practice. I think a tinfoil windshield would have had that water boiling for sure :) something to add to the project list.
17:10 & 27:28 fucking hilarious Funky, haven't laughed so much in a long time, ...laughter really is the best medicine. Great set of vids, thanks for taking the time to share them with us.
Looking forward to the rain. I love it although the ground is really saturated now. I got my stainless steel trangie mess kit from Military mart a few years ago. They are like gold dust. I will bring it along on the camp and let you have a look at it. Sandy
I know you don't like tents but here in Canada if you setup camp in the woods anytime and particularly in wet conditions the bugs would eat you alive...lol...enjoy your videos always.
Hi funkyprepper great video as always I love watching them and if you could do video of maybe bugout clothes or the smock that would really help as I find that the most difficult thing to get when thinking about bugout or prepping as there are so many options but anyway really good video again
I don't know if I have seen it yet or mis-heard you. I want to know about your DPM Basha. In one of your videos you had a mylar or thermal layer on the back side. Did it come that way or did you add it to your shelter for heat retention?
I loved this stuff. I know you're a good dad, husband, hard worker. But this was some of your finest work in videos. I cherish watching and re-watching them
Omg I laughed so hard when you ass blasted the camera after drinking the water.
So good to learn some of this stuff from a British perspective!
An all round great demonstration of kit use Darr, looking forward to part two ~Peace~
Nice one bro. I love seeing people use there kit in the field rather than it sitting in the cupboard collecting dust.
lol. the burp and fart at 17:00 was funny mate.
I am into all the cool camping and survival gadgets myself and I try different things to choose what goes into my bugout bag because you can get overloaded quickly and like you say, it is important to test out our stuff to make sure it works. This video is very nice. Learning lots.

Where can I get an olive smock?
Love your videos mate, just found you and the lady Vee, excellent. Great video
nice video on field testing your kit, thanx for sharing

Heck yeah, made my morning 4 new videos from Funky to watch, great way to spend a lazy Sunday morning. Thanks Funky!
Cheers
Gorbag
Greetings from across the pond! Great videos! Keep up the good work.
Just snagged a deal on ebay 2 IPK for 15 quid , one was 1976 and the other 1987 which I’ll be giving to my dad for his birthday as it was issued the year before he joined
it is a good suggestion, I like the video . thank you
i just sent off for the tytanium 40z nano with the alcohol ledge plate. im also putting a 2oz alcohol stove and a small fuel canister with a 1.5 oz titanium burner. all this in a Stanly cook pot. i like the 360 visual tarp set up and im getting a 4 oz guilly suit.
I heard gunshot!
Hi, don't know if you'll see this as it's an old video but what model rucksack is that please? It looks like a Berghaus?
Yes vulcan 2 cyclops
Hell yes on the Nano. I got the titanium one. You can barely tell its in your hand. Works great with the solder sealed trangia I got with it. Get the canvass bag they sell. High quality. That shotgun sound effect made my day.
You bring the funny. Well done

I was only saying last night we need a bug out vid, excellent editing, funny and informative. Thanks
Love the kit testing videos.
enjoyed this one funky .

Great video Funky, one tip would be to set up your basha once the light is fading. Then there's less chance of being noticed, esp if you wake early and decamp before dawn. Really enjoyed that mate. Revisited but well worth it. Cheers Moose
The water doesn't even have to be hot to reconstitute dehydrated food, it's just better when it is.
Yes please, make a video about your smock kit.
Second that :)
+Jailhouse Bradley Agreed, would love to see what it consist of.
Not like we, the bushcrafters and such wouldn't have a good guess already what's in it, it's just interesting to see what and how it's organised for each person, everybody brings in their own style so for the rest is easier to adjust and compile their own kits.
indeed!!!!

what kind of solar charger was that and do you like it.
Great Video!!!
Hiya Darren,
Regarding the fire gel, a smaller container would limit the flame and promote a more efficient burn, similar to how small hexi blocks burn more efficiently than the flat slabs.
Hey brother I like watching your videos..... From New Iberia, Louisiana USA...
a bottle of hand sanitizer is great for fires lasts as long as you like and can be resealed
with my little alcohol stoves, i just get the water to a good steam, i know the amount of fuel i need to do that.... for rehydrating, in a sealed pot, even wrapped up in a scarf, it'll stay hot for ten mins, nicely rehydrate the food, and used no more fuel than i need !

Man House is an excellent choice. It IS expensive, but worth every pence! They are made by Oregon Freeze dry in Albany OR. U.S.A.
Hi! Great video and great setup! Thumbs up! Atb Martin

Lots of valuable information on this video. Close call by a stranger. I wondered about the tracks on the path you took. Sounds and looks like a busy place for bugging out.

I have one of those water bags that you dipped in the stream. The threading fits my First Need water purifier.
Very cool video! Cant get myself away from the Crusader and Heavy Cover lid either. Seeing yours at our camp was what convinced me to finally buy one in the end, one of the best purchases ive made!

What make is the rain cover for your rucksack please?
Great video. I find the Firebox nano is much more efficient with a windscreen, whatever fuel you are using.
What is the name of the mug you had the emergency drinking water in and the red lighter?

How do you conceal your weapon?
This is amazing you should make more 👍🏼
Where did you get that steel lid for your crusader mug? I have the complete crusader kit and I got a cheap clear plastic lid with mine.
I want that steel lid too.
17:10 & 27:28 fucking hilarious Funky, haven't laughed so much in a long time, ...laughter really is the best medicine.
