first off no pvp is just such a turn off, also classic classic servers specifically whitemane are going strong leveled a hunter and geared a hunter past couple of months but it is almost entirely gdkps, luckily had warlock saved, and the honor system changed so hells yeah. I think ulduar was a pretty big nail for the casual player because well it was harder and people expected you to do some things.. and a lot of guilds just fell apart, or people didnt want to waste time not getting hardmodes down so they would crack some wallets and get into gdkps for an easier time. tbh im just ready for a fresh release for classic servers its literally the best time for the game, even if it is fleeting and will turn into something similar to what it is now
Also, I'm playing Wrath, taking my time killing Ogre's and Furbolgs. Also busy job with 2 kids in sports and home projects. I'm enjoying just playing for me and not for raiding!
When youre describing the meta in retail WoW all I can think is that its been that way for the entire lifespan of WoW past the burning crusade. Everyone always takes the strongest classes. Its just how the game is. Thats also how it is in classic WoW. That criticisim is such a pointless one.
Most people just dont want to admit they're bored of WoW. DF is really not any worse than MoP and people loved MoP. Its just that its 2023 now. Im saying this as someone who hates retail and classic for the same reasons.

I played a healer in season 1 of M+ for retail and unsubscribed. What an awful experience. Been healing for over a decade and what they had there was utter horseshit. Hardcore brought me back, at least for a while. I think the developers have lost sight of the vanilla wow experience and WoW has become a dungeon-crawler. I think dungeons are fine, but when that's all it has to offer and not even that is in good shape... why stay? I think a lot of players have come to that exact conclusion.
Blizzard didn't do this. They bent the knee to a community created concept. It was a reactive move, not an inventive one. Hardcore was an anti-meta movement, a rebellion against what Blizzard allowed and supported for years. Give them credit to listen enough for this to exist, but do not grant full points for is partly done out of preservation. Classic exists because of Blizzard losing control of their own IP by players moving to private servers. Hardcore exists because Blizzard lacked any sense of what Classic was trying to be in 2004, and allowed the modern meta and player to destroy it. A small group of players drove this movement. It was a sub-culture of players who created the demand for this. Players who remembered what mmorpgs attempted to do 20+ years ago. You are relearning what EVERYONE knew back then when niche gaming once existed, and before mass appeal watered everything down to a common denominator, aka the death of niche gaming.
