The color is both blue and purple (it's considered a Chameleon color in the paint world). Just depends on the angle you look at it and the sun. I love those paint jobs.
It's BLURPLE. And, I like it! Thanks for the video, as always! (edit) How's the gearing? Looks like the 2-speed derailleur gears are close-ratio; do they fit between the ratios of the 3-speed hub? Thanks again! Cheerio!
It’s both! And do you have a Japanese version of this review? I’m in Kyoto and my wife and I are looking into bromptons but, of course, the price is the sticking point. Have you tried a Brompton to compare to this?
Good comment on parts. If you follow up, then suggest covering: 1: Compatibility with Brompton after market, 3rd party upgrades. 2: After a month or so of riding, borrow a Brompton to compare feel/ride. 3. Compare for shopping vs. MomaChaire/Dutch bike.
I ride a Brompton pretty much everywhere except sand (and believe me, I have tried). The bikes handle just fine for long rides as well. An extended seatpost will help. I have one and a telescoping one. Whatever gets practical cycles into people's hands at a price that isn't out of reach gets a thumbs up from me.
The paint technique is called colour shift. The paint is done with tiny pearls that reflect light as one colour in the direction and reflects light as another in the other direction. It's very cool.
This type of foldable bikes like Mobot are very popular in Singapore as riders ride on pavements or PCN. If any breakdowns on the bikes during rides, we can just fold the bike and take a train or cab back home.
I am from Singapore. Was riding the same bike but branded under Pikes for 8 months before selling it to buy a Brompton 6 speed. Pikes is a good bike and very enjoyable to ride even for long distances of up to 100km in my experience. There are some minor quality issues but these can be fixed. Brompton build quality is much better for every component of the bike. There is no noticeable flex in the frame when going up slopes or during rapid acceleration. It rides like a full frame bike rather than a folding bike. I would say both pikes and brompton are good bikes but Brompton is the best.
Greetings from Singapore! We have many Brompton clones such as Pikes, 3Sixty and Paikesi. Another good foldable bike to consider is the Birdy BD-1, which is also available in Japan. It has a monocoque aluminum frame with full suspension.
The flex you're feeling is probably the suspension block doing it's job! Looks like a very good clone, many of the parts look identical to original Brompton parts. I think Brompton are using copyright on the look of the bike to fight clones like this now the patents have expired.
An EU court ruled that a design copyright was a legitimate alternative to a patent if the RESULTS of a design could be achieved in some other way. Personally, I have trouble imagining how someone could achieve the same three-fold results as the Brompton without copying almost all its design features. In this case, that defense would be irrelevant since this design is such a close copy, many of the same parts can be used. You can find that EU court decision described here: www.maucherjenkins.com/commentary/brompton-bike-case-cjeu-copyright-design
Thanks for sharing that. It seems like a strange ruling since it would really monopolize this type of 3-fold pattern and set a very controversial precedent. Curious to see how other international courts react.
Indonesia have 2 brands that has this copy, Element Pikes 6 speed, and United Trifold 3 speed, both are around 500 USD and brompton spare parts compatible..other is korean brand, 3sixty.
@@TwoWheelCruise I don't think it's the case. Dahon Curl is sold in EU and one can argue that it is Brompton copy as well. Yet because it has some changes to the looks, Brompton can't block it. This bike looks like direct copy of Brompton hence I don't see it being possible to sell it in EU.
It is both purple and blue! Thanks for this video! Although I have my own Trifold bicycle (an Aceoffix), it's nice watching this video about a Mobot Royale Trifold. So therapeutic indeed!
Thanks for the video! Love the color. The lock nut on the indicator chain needs to be tightened against the barrel adjuster. The way you have it, shifting will begin to slip. Also to note: no pedaling while shifting the 3spd IGH, pedal while shifting the 2spd derailleur side. Would love to see followup video on how you like it. Cheers!
What a great looking bike. Would be useful to do a 6 months or 1 year later review to see if the quality stand the test of time maybe. Thanks for sharing. Hopefully I can get my hands on one on my next trip to Singapore.
So I went to checkout Mobot Royal. The 3 speed is 1200 SGD, plus 662 shipping to US = 1860 SGD ~ 1350 USD. That's really expensive for a clone. For that price I can get the Aline for cheaper; or the 3 speed C line for ~1800 USD. And I can get the brompton within an hour drive. Not to mention parts, availability, and warranty.
So nice review, thanks for sharing bro. 👍I just bought the Royale Dragon Red for my wife, she loves it. Such a great bike, and affordable price. 👌 Mobot has found a good segment. 👍
I’ve been eyeing the Mobot Royale for a while. Looking forward to your long term review! I’m looking for something just right for simple exploring here around Korea and hopefully on trips to Japan post covid.
Great video. Nice to see Japan! Well produced. Both the Video and the Bike!! In 1980s had a Bickerton aluminium foldable for London and a Claude Butler Dalesman for Oxford. Brompton is great design. But being manufactured in UK is not efficient. Also the major frame q innovation stopped 20 year ago. As an experienced cyclist over 47+ years, i can replace parts. Thus since Mobot frame is 100% excellent and legal. I can not justify being a blind "brand follower" of a UK built product.
The paint is adopting Three-layer Coating technology, with chameleon effect under different lighting or view from different angle. You can name is Metallic Purple, or Metallic Blue.
The rich will go for Brompton.. the avg middle income like me will go for such nice color and foldie bike.. no matter wat brand you ride, at the end the most important is ..enjoy the ride!!!!
I always wanted a Brompton folding bike which seems very practical for short commutes and be able to take into buildings with you instead of locking bike outside. The mobot sure does look promising, tho. I love the very compact fold design and color.
Hi, Cruise! Great vid! Question: What quality compromises does this bike come with, compared to a Brompton? I've enjoyed riding my Dahons, but recently purchased a Brompton Explore M6R, which I am enjoying equally, but it folds down so much smaller! Sweet for traveling! Thanks and cheers!
Very nice chameleon color. Usually Brompton knock off have better crank arm ground clearance for 170mm so it's less risky on road bump where it's very dangerous if the pedal stuck but just be safe to level the pedal on bumps Also be careful with the transparent color front block it's easy to break compare to the solid color one since it's more durable material.
Do you get to keep the bike? If they're not paying you, but you get to keep a $1000 bike, that seems like it could bias the review, even if it's not intentional.
I also own a Brompton clone. The brand name’s called Pikes. As far as I know, it is one of the two available B-clones available here in the Philippines, the other being the 3sixty brand. I intended to by a Brompton but since it’s so difficult to get one here in the Philippines these days, plus it’s quite expensive to boot, I opted to try out the Pikes first. Getting a Brompton will most certainly burn a huge hole in my pocket so I figured I should just try it first and get the feel of that kind of bike. I’ve used road bikes and mountain bikes for as long as I can remember but only had very limited experience with a folding bike. So far, so good. What you and Thuong-chan got seems to perform similarly with Pikes. It’s called Royale so it’s probably just the same as the Camp Royale bike, also sold in Singapore if I remember correctly. It’s probably renamed for the market. Similar specs, as well as parts and components. Haven’t made any major upgrades on my Pikes yet but a lot of those in our local Pikes group already have. For upgrades, I suggest you change the front carrier block. The translucent plastic is brittle. Mine easily broke. Also change the suspension block for better ride comfort. Get the original Brompton replacement parts. You can also try the Schwalbe Marathon Racer or Kojak for the tires. You might wanna replace the pedals as well. On my Pikes, the stock folding pedals feel stiff.
Thanks for the extra tips! Mobot changed the name from Camp Royale to just Royale. Once I wear some of these parts out I will start replacing them, definitely going with marathons!
@@TwoWheelCruise I see. I didn’t know they changed name to simply “Royale”. If I may also add. If you guys are gonna use the foldie for grocery runs, you might wanna get easywheel extenders. As it is, you can push around the bike just fine. But it will tend to tip over on its heavier side. Be advised tho that the dimensions of aftermarket brands are specific to Brompton measurements so make sure to check out the measurements before purchasing. I am assuming Royale and Pikes have the same or similar measurements, so I guess it’s logical to assume that you’ll have to use some washers to get a suitable fit. And since the stock easywheels are also quite thin, should you guys want something beefier, you can use rollerblade wheels. Just try to look for larger diameter ones if possible so you’d have better ground clearance. I haven’t personally used those but I saw some from our local group that did and it seemed fine. Fun fact: the 3sixty B-clone use rollerblade wheels that light up instead of the easywheels.
Hey guys, great work! Can you look into the Harry Quinn Portable E-Bike as well. It's basically a Brompton clone with an electric hub motor and internal battery. I want to get one instead of a Brompton for obvious reasons. Much appreciated if you guys can do it
Wow! Thuong looks amazing on the new bicycle. Thank you very much for sharing another wonderful video regarding this new folding bicycle it was very interesting to watch. Tom from UK.
I have a Dahon folding bike, I found that switching out the folding pedals to a quick release one (cheap one I found on ebay) make the feel of my bike more stable and stiff when I put down the power. It could be the case on your Royale bike as well.
Did the same thing. Using MKS pedals. They are lighter than the original folding pedals and I take them off when locking the bike to go to the store - it's an added theft deterrent. Never had any problems with the removable pedals coming loose.
As a Dane I looked for a folding bike, at first from Asia, 3sixty or the like, but they didn't want to sell to Europe, maybe for Copyright Infringement, so in the end I bought a by then Top 2019 Flame Painted, black version SuperlightM6LXBrompton. Since then I have made it much lighter, for now 8,5 kilo with mudguards and about the same weight as the new Top, 4 gear Titanium Brompton, of course also with mudguards! And for half the price of one, even with the extra titanium and carbon parts. But the Brompton is finely made with hinges and soldering looking very professional. Finn. Denmark
I bought a very cheap 20' wheel folding bike (Yuechi) and I notice a significant lack of speed compared to my folding mountain bike with 26' wheels. Can you tell me if this inherent to 20'inch folding bike or if there is a problem with my 20'inch folding bike.
how can i buy this bicycle, we want to stroll around lake biwa this coming spring and its more convenient to use this 3folds bicycle, i have a bridgestone sneaker but still bulky. Me and my wife watched your videos and we like to try it too.
Possibly my next bike will be a fold bike, but it's very difficult to get folding bikes in Sweden... I guess it comes from the general size of the population. People are tall and tend to be rather heavy, while fold bikes are limited. What would be a good choice for a tall and heavier rider?
Designed using tracing paper obviously, but it does look nice and will be very interesting to see how well it does in the long term as my Brompton is very sturdy and takes quite a battering on and off road. If you could get a Brompton to make a direct comparison that would be very interesting. Thank you for the video🎥👌
Have u tried mounting the insta360 one x2 onto this M bar? I have a similar bicycle call pikes and on my bar 1 side is my quadlock mount, other side i plan to mount the insta360 one x2. However this m bar seems a bit short so am wondering. If u have tried mounting ur insta360 one x2 onto this M bar pls let me know
Something that might be of interest to anyone interested in Bromptons, there are a few more Brompton clones from other companies that you can get from Singapore as well. One brand is called Pikes that is based from Indonesia I believe and another is 3sixty.
Do u think it's same OEM, with different marketing (and thus different parts on same frame)? Or are there clues in frame welds that speak to different frame factory?
I love that camera! Do you erase the selfie stick with the editing sofware or does the camera do it for you? I really interested in a folding bike for traveling. Looking forward to another review with the straight handlebars on this bike.
I have a rd bike with a 7 speed internal. There is a really SMALL amount of sluggishness I feel when compared to a sprocket and chain. It’s very noticeable but very negligible. I almost never pay no mind to it. They are quite a good system. If you aim for longevity and durability, I’d say internal is where is at, and that’s if you’re okay with a the smallest performance downgrade
@@eduardopliego497 Hi thank you for your reply :) I'm currently building a bike with a Nexus 8s IGH, and I've been curious about how it will feel. The frame of the bike is being sandblasted and powder coated right now, so I haven't had chance to test out the hub yet. I'm looking forward to it based on your comments, thank you :)
Looks like a decent bike. I'm guessing the joints are flexy just because in order to make a solid folding bike a lot of engineering needs to go into it but for a daily commuter seems legit. I personally stick with tern folding bikes, they're Rick solid and very fairly priced. The tern byb would be comparable in size since tern doesn't offer 16" folders. Cheers!
It's been a long time since Chinese engineering was crap, CNC has made sure of that, it's the lack of height of the frame that makes foldies seem flexible.
That’s awesome. Finally a Brompton clone. Perhaps the lower cost is due to lower quality components, but I would also factor in the difference in labor costs. Brampton bikes are made in England, so you will pay more for labor. Yours is a sweet looking bike. The color is super great. One thing I didn’t care for about the Brompton is the dull paint jobs. As far as ride is concerned, I tried riding a Brompton, but I didn’t quite care for it. A little flimsy feeling, and the smaller wheels gave the bike a bit rougher ride, unless you are riding on a smooth surface. Would I get one, well, I might consider the Royal based on the fact it’s so much cheaper than the original Brompton. For a folding bike, the design is better than anything else out there that I’ve seen. Great purchase, Cruise. I’m sure you both will have years of pleasure riding it. Well, you will once you get a longer seat post. Great fun!!
Shoot I want one but I’ve been cleared to continue working from home and no longer commuting. Maybe as a grocery getter (any reason to buy another bike). 😋
FYI, Royale, pikes, paikesi all came from the same manufacture. Just different branding for different regional market. And of cos, the bikes might come with different components depending on target market and pricing level.
Nice. I own a Royale too. Enjoying every moment of it. I have seen a couple of friends upgrading the components. For me, I am happy as it is except for the saddle. I personally prefer the soft gel type.
Really cool bike, hopefully it is as rugged and durable as a Brompton. I'd call the color Galaxy Blue especially with the sparkly glittery finish, but whatever it's called it looks great!!
cool bike, cool video! ijust got a Litepro Brompton clone, ¥60,000 with free shipping on Aliexpress (I also live in Japan). The quality of the Royale looks better. How much did you have to pay for shipping to Japan?
I started getting interested with folding bikes and mini vellos today, and coincidentally this video just got uploaded... perfect timing! That's a nice bike! Stay safe! I'm a new subscriber :)
Pikes and this Mobat (Camp) are sourced from the same Shenzhen China factory. I did a bit of research on the Pikes as it’s available here in the Philippines and I’m interested in getting one. There’s also a Litepro version and a couple of others available on Shopee and Lazada. What’s nice about having these copies is that it grew the aftermarket parts for these bikes, I see a lot shared with Bromptons. I’m 5’10 and need to get the longer seatpost also. I tried a Pikes at my friends bike shop and noted that. A big difference with these bikes and Bromptons is the use of hi tensile steel on the forks and rear triangle vice chromoly used in the Bromptons.
Thanks for the extra information! I noticed a few different brands seemed to be using the same factory for the frame. That's a good point about the growing aftermarket parts.

The "Flex" is from the suspension block. (The parts which contacts the rear triangle when you slams onto the chassis, when you unfolds your bike)

Hello from Meguro Ku! Fellow bike enthusiast!
The flex you are feeling is probably from the compression of the suspension block and not with the frame nor seat post.
Thanks for the tip!
Watching from Philippines.....most of Filipinos likes bike especially today pandemic...stay safe 😉😁😷👍

Which seat post did you buy for taller cyclist?
6:30 ish the flex… maybe from the seat post having so much extension from the frame too.
That's possible, but I notice it most while standing out of saddle on climbs
@@TwoWheelCruise Ah, that’s right… then maybe the plastic pedals? Or the cranks?
Invisible selfie stick? You are an amazing human being.
Love it haha
is the mobot toolkit compatible with a brompton bike? will it also fit inside the tube?
Love the color. Iʻm going to say more purple than blue. Looks like a fun riding bike.
Thanks! I think the same 😃
@@TwoWheelCruise Would love to see it in more direct sunlight, than the overcast skies. Still though looks really cool. Enjoy the ride!
That's an awesome colour!
Thank you for sharing!
Finn. Denmark
Good point on highlighting the flex man! It's gonna be a slight issue for me
I just love this bicycle
I bought a very cheap 20' wheel folding bike (Yuechi) and I notice a significant lack of speed compared to my folding mountain bike with 26' wheels. Can you tell me if this inherent to 20'inch folding bike or if there is a problem with my 20'inch folding bike.
Cool colours. Changes according to the angle of view.
Yeah, it's really cool :)
Hey! I’m looking into this but worried about storage (I live in Japan too). Is it really 38cm wide folded? That just seems a bit much.
how can i buy this bicycle, we want to stroll around lake biwa this coming spring and its more convenient to use this 3folds bicycle, i have a bridgestone sneaker but still bulky.
Yes, we'd like to make a direct comparison if possible
Have u tried mounting the insta360 one x2 onto this M bar?
I have a similar bicycle call pikes and on my bar 1 side is my quadlock mount, other side i plan to mount the insta360 one x2. However this m bar seems a bit short so am wondering. If u have tried mounting ur insta360 one x2 onto this M bar pls let me know
Something that might be of interest to anyone interested in Bromptons, there are a few more Brompton clones from other companies that you can get from Singapore as well. One brand is called Pikes that is based from Indonesia I believe and another is 3sixty.
Yup. Pikes is from Indonesia and the 3sixty is Korean brand.
Do u think it's same OEM, with different marketing (and thus different parts on same frame)? Or are there clues in frame welds that speak to different frame factory?
Interesting, good to know!
where can i buy this bike near NYC or order on line?
I love that camera! Do you erase the selfie stick with the editing sofware or does the camera do it for you? I really interested in a folding bike for traveling. Looking forward to another review with the straight handlebars on this bike.
The camera does it automatically 😁
Wow the bike paint is awesome!
How did you get on with the internal hub gears? Could you feel any drag or sluggishness? I like the combination of 2 speed derailleur with the IGS 🙂
We have exactly the same bicycle in the Philippines but it is branded as PIKES.
Yes PIKES imported from Indonesia 🇮🇩
very nice shade of Blur-ple ...
Great fun!!
Thanks Kelala! The brighter colors and lower price point are really nice and yes, the labor cost is surely much higher in the UK.
Nice color👍 and the bike looks great.
Thanks! 😁
Shoot I want one but I’ve been cleared to continue working from home and no longer commuting. Maybe as a grocery getter (any reason to buy another bike). 😋
Working from home is great, but miss the bike commute Haha
In Phillipines is there stock on that brand
How much did you have to pay in taxes/import duties to have it shipped to Japan? Thanks!
Just install a drop bar and bamm you good to goooo 💯📈📈📈
Haha I'll start with the flat bar 😎
@@TwoWheelCruise hehe also add a bigger ring set for hear option. And the ✨BAMM ✨
How is the performance on elevated road?
Noce review
There's a cheaper Brompton clone/alternative also here in Southeast Asia called Pikes. Retails for about ~500USD.
Oh wow, that's really cheap!
@@TwoWheelCruise you can google element pikes and 3sixty. They all brompton clone
FYI, Royale, pikes, paikesi all came from the same manufacture. Just different branding for different regional market. And of cos, the bikes might come with different components depending on target market and pricing level.
@@renjie9015 are they all made in China ?
@@sohailahbalmer7094 yes by Camp China Factory.
Is there retailer in the U.S.?
Dude, thats pikes Gen 2 (element bike). Someone in Singapore rebrand and repaint the bike.
Wow looks great on Thoung
Nice. I own a Royale too. Enjoying every moment of it. I have seen a couple of friends upgrading the components. For me, I am happy as it is except for the saddle. I personally prefer the soft gel type.
Awesome! First upgrade for me will be a longer seatpost haha
this it's not about Brompton or any brand, but how hard your knees can pedal
We are the same height - 6 feet. The bike looks tiny when you ride it. It makes me wonder if I should get a small bike like this.
Lovely folding bikes
Really cool bike, hopefully it is as rugged and durable as a Brompton. I'd call the color Galaxy Blue especially with the sparkly glittery finish, but whatever it's called it looks great!!
Thanks Kyle! That sounds like a better color name haha. It's our first shiny bike 💎
Simple, good looking and like brompton👍
cool bike, cool video! ijust got a Litepro Brompton clone, ¥60,000 with free shipping on Aliexpress (I also live in Japan). The quality of the Royale looks better. How much did you have to pay for shipping to Japan?
Element Pikes Gen 2 from Indonesia?
I started getting interested with folding bikes and mini vellos today, and coincidentally this video just got uploaded... perfect timing! That's a nice bike! Stay safe! I'm a new subscriber :)
Thanks! We've been wanting to try them for a while :)
@@TwoWheelCruise great timing! stay safe, your channel is a big help for me. :)
Thanks. At 6'2" I wondered about that.
Thanks for the extra information! I noticed a few different brands seemed to be using the same factory for the frame. That's a good point about the growing aftermarket parts.
Perfect jeans for testing the sadle
What is the size of the seatpost?
