Warfarin is used to prevent blood clots from forming or growing larger in your blood and blood vessels. It is prescribed for people with certain types of irregular heartbeat, people with prosthetic (replacement or mechanical) heart valves, and people who have suffered a heart attack.

Thank you very much for the information i was diagnosed with factor 5 almost 3yrs ago. I had a blood clot in my right calf at the time. Unfortunately when they told me that i had to take aspirin for life instead of warfarin i ended up getting another blood clot this time in my left calf. I began self medicating myself with warfarin since I live in Nicaragua and the hospitals here are of very poor quality. I hope i get better and that i can make it through this one.
