  • A demonstration of a minimal amount of equipment needed to make phone calls over the ARDEN mesh using a PBX. If your PBX is connected to an outside POTS SIP service like mine is, you can also make and receive phone calls from normal phones outside the mesh!
    Parts list:
    TP-Link CPE210 - www.tp-link.com/us/business-n...
    Mini UPS Battery Backup 8800mAH - www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07...
LANMU USB to DC Power Cable - www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07...
    Cisco SPA504G IP Phone - www.cisco.com/c/en/us/product...
    Husky Tripod Stand - www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-Tri...
    FreePBX: www.freepbx.org/
The laptop can be any laptop. You don't need a laptop to make and receive phone calls, but it's useful to check your connections. Also, if you have LinPhone on your computer, then you don't need the IP phone. I like using a separate IP phone because they work well and use very little power. If you wish to use Winlink, you need RMS Express on a Windows 7 or newer OS. If you have a MAC, I recommend getting Parallels to run Windows.

Good demo, thanks. Would you please consider creating a follow-up video looking at how you power this kit in the field?

Hi John. The phone and TP-Link CPE210 are powered by the Mini UPS battery (see link in description). Your devices may have different power requirements. In my case, that battery provided the perfect POE voltage and perfect USB out voltage that matched my equipment. The CPE-210 requires 24v POE which the UPS battery provides via its POE port. The LAN port of the battery passes the IP traffic to the phone, which has a 2nd port to pass traffic to the computer. Also on the front of the UPS there's a USB port providing 5V which is what the phone needs.
