      With deepfake...you don't need to look like the person since the face of the other person is overplayed, and the seams feathered out to match skin tone.

    Imagine someone trying to discredit someone by putting out a video out there where a person is saying or doing something horrible when they didn’t say or did it. Imagine the public’s reaction to that video. There will be so much hate towards someone innocent. This is really really bad! It can destroy someone’s life.

    The algorithm requires thousands of images from different angles and lighting conditions to create a deepfake. This is why it's mostly famous people getting deepfaked. There aren't enough images of regular people for it to be an issue yet.
    The technology might improve in the future, but it's not there yet.

      In a short time, the process went from taking weeks to days. The technology is advancing so quickly, days will become hours, and hours will become minutes. Let’s hope that detection technology is available to everyone and not just to power wielding entities that don’t want to share the truth. This is scary. Very, very scary.

      Really? I thought the actor's Tom Cruise voice, as well as his mannerisms, were off the chart convincing. He's a talented guy, and I'm not surprised he had so many fooled!
      Not every 'deep fake' will be as good as this Tom Cruise one, because most performers won't be as spookily accurate as he is in their appearance and impersonation.

    There was a movie in the 80's they scanned and digitized actors, then used those scans to create movies. The actors started to have deadly accidents, the company had life insurance on the actors and kept the rights to the scans. Can't think of the name of the movie

    It’s crazy because I watched the queens recent Xmas speech and at 6:42 her face morphed for like 1/1000th of a second… I swear. And then a few hours later I show my friend and it was edited….

      What they are not telling people is this is already being used widely especially with politicians. Look at Biden do you really think it’s him? He has been deceased I believe since 2018. I have noticed it with people like Pelosi, Obama, Tom Hanks who is believed to be executed already yet he keeps reappearing all the time. I think good motto would be don’t believe everything you see we are being deceived all the time. 9/11 and those “planes” crashing into WTC is one of the huge deceptions played on those who believe everything they see.

    Its also Ume’s talent. Theres a lot of work and expertise of vfx that goes into this to make it seamless. Ume is being far too humble and media reporters are largely ignorant making it sound like 3 click executions.

    in "ALL" honesty, it's comforting to me to read that most of you are civilized folks and understand how dangerous this is even though it's pretty cool technology.
    So many of you can see the danger and that's the start to putting an end to something that might have the ability to cause a 3rd world war. This tech in the hands of the Gov could lead them to show us anything they want us to see regardless if it's real or not.
    For some reason the show Total Recall ( the first one ) comes to mind here. Just have your dream holidays implanted into your brain and you're good to go.

    Hopefully as it becomes increasingly difficult to discern 'fiction' from reality; we find ourselves moving towards a world where idols/celebrities/brands can no longer profit from simply being well known and we grow to care more about the QUALITY of something rather than WHO makes it.       If it’s suspicious, I would look at the lighting transition from face to neck. There’s also the resolution difference. Of course this will become difficult to tell in the future as the technology becomes more sophisticated.

    Well it's not 100%. You can tell the head floats at times, and also he is not in shape physically. Tom is pretty jacked. Like he does not have the average skinny guy build. He is also not gross body builder. But a sane medium. But he is buff. The body gives it away as well.
    But it's like prosthetics if you already look close to the person you are playing, it takes less work.

      Miles Fisher looks alot like Steve Carrel too 😂 The reporters need to be more assertive as they got the whole thing wrong by Saying Ume is a great actor. Chris Ume is the Belgian visual arts guy and Miles is the actor.

    it is the use of "deep-fake" that makes it so, - the technology (or the various technologies) itself is used by the film industry as a matter of course, - but the question is which of them is the primary developer of these things
