  • The Freewell Real Travel Tripod FW-T1 has a few clever tricks that set it apart from most other tripods. In this video, I show you what those tricks are, illustrate the potential danger, and explain why I actually love it. This video also includes some recent images created with my new Hasselblad X2D camera and the TTArtisan 90mm lens.
NOTE: Freewell sent me this tripod for review, free of charge - but they had no input into the video, nor did they see it before it was published.

I find most situations using the bag hook with camera bag mitigates the "Tripod Crash" risk. Let it hang low to get the centre of gravity low. Water bottle is a kilo a litre as well . But yeah, the wind wobble is still a factor for long exposures. Interesting Tripod and very flexible in use it seems. Great video thanks !

Excellent review Peter. Very thorough, laced with your own personal views and preferences. Like you I always question the wisdom of putting out a review video but, then again how many times do I search RUclips looking for reviews of things I'm interested in adding to my collection. Someone out there will find your review useful and that makes it worthy. Stay safe out there sir.

  • @TroySwezey

    Very thorough review for this

  • @juanitakelly3082

For someone who mostly doesn't do gear reviews, you showed how to make one interesting with honesty, humor and keen observations. At first I was worried it was going to end up in the trash bin in the background, but you really gave it a fair, comprehensive demonstration!

As you suggest I think I would want to give those twist legs a bit of time before deciding on how good that mechanism is. I’ve had a few poor experiences with “extending things” unrelated to photography using a similar style of locking which have given trouble after a time. The whole thing looked very top heavy and teetering on toppling over, maybe its just the legs in that first settling don’t have a wide enough stance to counter the leverage coming from the heavy weight at the top. Freewell seems to have thought of everything in the head but sure as eggs my aging brain would forget to tighten one which could end in a lot of expletives.😕 . The images you took on your holiday looked amazing , razor sharp , and there was a certain quality to them I just couldn’t put my finger on. 👍

I see the value in the flexibility. However, it's a bit shaky in the wind. The twist locks on the legs seem very easy to deploy, but I would be concerned when using them in wet weather or near a waterfall. It seems like one's hand may slip when adjusting the height. The head movement looks nice but may be too much for my taste.

Always enjoy hearing your thoughts. I don't have many tripods but you made me more conscious of what to consider in the future - so it was useful after all !

  • @chriscummins4282

I enjoyed this video Peter. Enjoyed the qld footage - lucky guy !

Too light, too flimsy stick with my solid Leofoto, look forward to video on the Hasselblad.
