I think it's the allure of optimizing the elite towers that got you your last loss. Since you try to prepare for those last 3 waves, best to memorize them and determine if you need elite tier 3s early or not.

Maybe I should start writing down in notepad what the problem waves are so I know when to upgrade elites.
