For the 100th time, when diving, you control your landing with the left stick! You do the whole combination of buttons and then you position yourself with the left stick!
I'm pretty sure you were just pressing the buttons too late for diving. If you had pressed them as soon as they came up, then you would have more time to adjust for the entry.

To land the dive properly you can use the left stick to adjust what angle your character lands in the water
