I just read Under the Dome and I had the end spoiled for me ages ago. SPOILERS I had heard that it was a bunch of teenage aliens pulling a trick on humans, like ants under a magnifying glass. And I thought 'oh thats fucking stupid'. Then I just read it and the execution was worse than I could have ever imagined. Julia goes over to the box which all of a sudden turns into a portal to this white room with a green roof and the leatherhead literally says to her 'my friends just left, their mum said dinner was ready'. And I was like you gotta be kidding me. But then Julia is like 'pleeese life the dome pleeeeeese' and the leatherhead is like 'but my friends said that I should never let the dome rise, what if they mad at me'. And Julia goes 'you don't have to succumb to peer pressure, stand up to it'. Leatherhead goes 'oh yeah good point' and then raises the dome. The End. I think the backlash from making Cell open ended made King feel like he had to have an answer in Under The Dome, which is a shame because like you said, it would have been better if it was just open ended and have it mysteriously raise on Halloween like they kept talking about. I've had bad experiences with King endings, but even knowing aspects of this ending going into it, I couldn't feel more deflated and disappointed.
Yeah, like I said I was enjoying the crap out of that book for the first 900 pages, but that ending happens and it’s awful…. Went from being an all time favorite to mehhh
@@BookishDrummer I just can’t believe that he decided to go in that direction after such a near perfect book. I’ve read 39 of his novels and it probably would’ve been in my top 10 but it’s sitting at number 24 now. I think I like Needful Things better as far as town spiralling out of control, the end of Needful Things is stupid, but it’s so short and it doesn’t bother me as much because it doesn’t feel like that’s what the book was building up to.
@@BookishDrummer That's expected. But I only ready the Director's Cut since chapter 20-21 (currently finished 25) because it gets worse and worse in new ways.
I dont get IT. The demon supposedly thrives off fear, but kills the kid at the start who isnt afraid, then all the other encounters when the kids are terrified amount to nothing, then they just wish him away? Ugh.. of and child orgies and space turtles?
I skipped several of these books because I have not read most of them yet, but I definitely have to agree with you about the very end of The Stand. To me it felt like more of a beginning to another saga instead of an ending. If good is going to triumph over evil then maybe it should win with some sort of complete annihilation or something. I felt like something was lacking. I really did enjoy the majority of the book though. I'm not exactly a King expert considering I have only read The Stand and book one in The Dark Tower series to date. 😄 I have a few 9f his books on my shelf though and hope to read them during the Summer months when I have 22-23 hours of light because I am a big ole scaredy cat! Lol
@@BookishDrummer I don't know which book I'll read next. I picked up Lisey's Story, Duma Key, and Blockade Billy at a secondhand shop. I recently ordered The Shining because I found it for 5 euros. I just need to pick one. Haha
@@BookishDrummer Maybe I will. I know absolutely nothing about it because I like to go into most of my books fairly blind. 🙂 Very different from the many books with adaptations.
Stephen King is probably one of the most overrated writers of all time. Him and Dean Koontz becoming popular make me believe that perhaps deals with the devil do exist.
I know… I think it’s overrated. I loved the start of it, but it just dragged on too long. It should have been edited, which it originally was! I’m actually planning on reading the origins edition, which is 300 pages shorter. I have feeling I will enjoy that version more.
Ooh, I just finished Needful Things last night, and out of all the King books I've read, it definitely had the worst ending of any one so far. Such a disappointing end to a PHENOMENAL book.
Personally, I found the ending to The Stand was a bad one. The book itself was already for me overstuffed with character drama, dragged out plots and slow lulls. But then it ends on a literal deus ex machina. That for me really hammered home how much I felt like I wasted my time.
Oh no! Not IT lol Think I've mentioned in other videos that I absolutely love IT...and while the ending has some flaws I definitely think it's a strong ending overall. The spider form is definitely a low point for me, I would have much rather he kept with the Dead Lights being IT's "Final Form" but ultimately it doesn't detract enough from the story or ending to ruin it for me and ties back with something someone, I believe Beverly's mother, said earlier about spiders. So yay for foreshadowing. But I think the whole bit of Derry falling apart with IT'S death was great and holds a lot of meaning to the story and Bill using the last bit of that childhood magic to restore his wife (and putting an end to the potential triangle with Ben and Bev) all just works really well for me. Definitely agree with a bunch of others though, such as The Stand.
Oh, Nice! I will say, give it time. It can be a bit of a jarring read at first, but you’ll get used to the writing style and hopefully latch on to the characters. I hope you like it!
Yes doctor sleep the movie is ten times better than the book I don't know how Mike flannigan was able to do right with both the shinning book and the doctor sleep book while also doing right by Stanley Kubrick movie but he did 😊😚🤔👏👍
It is one of my fav books of all time, but man that ending isn’t good whatsoever. I’ll gladly reread that mammoth but thankfully I was warned of its not greatness. From the King I’ve read so far, it’s Needful Things is my least favourite, I just feel like I wasted my time with it .
@@BookishDrummer Ending, I enjoyed most of it but I find the ending ruined it. But I've only read 10 of king so it's sadly one of my least fav by him (still a 4 star)

Even having Trashcan Man ironically detonating the nuke as an act of Walkin' Dude worship would have been better than the Hand of God.
