I once did the highschool dropout (basically a giant rope swing) upside down. Incredibly stupid idea, made me sick for a few days. Also stupid because the harness was a belt designed to hold you in the right way up, so I could have very easily slipped out 30 feet above the gym floor.
Anyway, if you want a career mode video series idea, you could do what i’m doing. I’d do it myself, but I don’t have much time for youtube anymore. My goal in a career save is to put at least 100 kerbals on the surface of each planet in one massive colonization effort. There are a few rules:
1: Each seat provides one kerbal one month of life support. So in a 3 kerbal command pod, you could do a 3 kerbal mission for one month, or a one kerbal mission for 3 months.
2: One 1.25 meter reaction wheel (with torque turned off) is a “hyrdroponic garden” that can provide infinite life support to one kerbal, but must be supplied with 1 unit of power 1/3rd of the time. If more than 1 week lapses without that much power, the “plants” die off. In lieu of this, a “grocery store”, a single large building, can be established on a planet’s surface that can supply 50 kerbals each.
3: Once the tech tree is finished, use administration to convert all science into funds. This will allow you to make a viable economy out of establishing permanent science bases.
4: Design a super efficient transport system. Use SSTOs only to get kerbals and cargo off and on world, unload onto a space station, or directly onto an interplanetary craft. These interplanetary craft should be nuclear or ion powered vessels. Some passenger ships should include gravity rings. Use low gravity worlds as mining economies that regularly launch SSTOs that refuel the entire system in situ. The travel time for passengers from one planet directly to another, no stops, should be reasonable, say no longer than 6 months. Be as reusable as possible
5: Space out towns, mining facilities, labs, and spce ports more than 5km away from each other to reduce lag. Provide land, sea, or air transportation between them.
6: Have a hotel on each surface to accomodate tourists.
7: Since the fun of these goals happen AFTER unlocking the base upgrades and tech tree, start the game with the maximum amount of funds and science. This will let you get the nuclear engine and science lab immediately. Also... i hate the grind too.

Matt! Don't cop out of doing a Hard Mode Career!
Hard mode is where KSP is best IMO. With normal funds you become a millionaire overnight, and with normal science; you get to the top of the tech tree with just the Mun and Minmus. 60% funds/science/DSN strength feels about right. Don't forget to Turn on G-Forces and set it to about 0.1 for realistic G force effects and a few cool contracts. This helps realism/immersion alot for me as you have to use drogue chutes and fly SSTO's well to avoid knocking out tourists.
I'm doing a playthrough now, and the only 'grindy' part was going to the Mun three times with level 1 tracking and mission control. Probes to Duna and a simple communication network are next!
Just be smart with your contract choices and group a few together, and don't forget about using administration building (but only using 1-2%).

Can't wait for the end of duna attacks. I agree with the several other comments that you should do a more amped up difficulty playthrough. I've done it, others have done it. It is fun, and adds a whole new aspect. I'm sure your playtime is higher than mine (~2300hrs), but it's time to jump in. I recommend outer planets and UKS lines. An alternate is Near Future with Kerbalism. I've done both play throughs, and both were enjoyable. I really enjoy the UKS line more than any others, though. I wouldn't recommend adjusting the science and funds rewards at all, that doesn't add difficulty, just play-time. Which, as you know, is no good for youtube. Keep pumping out the funny-ass videos though! By the way, Happy Birthday Bruv!

Hey Matt, love all your KSP videos and even though I just found them last night, I don't think I've watched anything else since!
I am also VERY happy to see another Joakim Karud fan!! "Vibe with Me" is my all time favorite of his and I found a Diablo 3 streamer who uses it as his background music so I know there are at least 3 of us on RUclips lol!
You asked if anyone enjoyed it when you started the videos with the build of the craft and I know that I certainly do. In fact, I would like it if you went into more detail on the build itself. Not so much so I can copy your strategy but so I can learn why you used a certain part in a certain situation and apply that information to a design of mine own in the future.
Thanks for all the hard work and great content,

New challenge: Unlock as many tech tree branches as you can in a single flight.
I believe 13k science is enough to unlock the whole tree, but you DID have all of the tech unlocked.
What could you do if you only had the immediate trees up to the nukes unlocked? Only up to the skipper? Only up to the thermo/barometer? How low can you go while still finishing off the tree?

While I agree that long term space flight is problematic, multiple Russian cosmonauts have already spent more than a year in space continuously, and several have multi-year space-time in their careers.
One of my favorites is Sergei Krikalev. He went up in a Soviet rocket, but while he was up there the USSR dissolved. He came back to a completely different country. Beyond that, because of the widespread chaos that follows the dissolution of a major world power, they kind of forgot he was up there and weren't too sure how to get him back. I'm waiting for Vintage Space to do this one.
All told, he has over 800 days of space-time, and he's still working in the industry.

Matt. You should do an eye video about "worming" and exactly how bad it is for you.

Hi, how are ya? Keep this awesome content up! Also, I believe you said in the Minmus hotel video that it would be the last video in the series but what happened to the casino? Maybe a misspeak.

HEY MATT!!! Maybe you should do a Community Career, where people send you craft files, and you fly them in your career mode!

  • @tristunalekzander5608
    @tristunalekzander5608 5 лет назад

Play career mode but make your starting money 500,000 dollars. I just started paying (I've only got like 150 hours) but I noticed right away how grindy career mode was. I didn't want to have to do 5 rescue missions in a row in between each trip, that is just the dumbest thing ever, I want to have fun playing this game, not perform chores. BUT, if you do science mode, it completely takes out any realism in the game. You should still have to worry about money, but not _too much._ I've had extreme amounts of fun trying to get my rockets to be as cheap as possible, it is something real rocket scientists have to constantly think about. If one doesn't have to worry about money, why not just over-engineer every rocket? There is no reason not to and so the missions will always be very easy unless you intentionally make them hard. Especially for someone like you, you are so good at the game I don't know how you even have fun anymore just travelling about to planets willy nilly no worries with plenty of delta v left over. You aren't really even playing the game, you are just making pretty spaceships and drawing ellipses when you think about it, which is cool too, but only when you make things that are completely unfeasible in career or just something that is so difficult that it is even difficult in sandbox.

Great video! Can you explain in detail how you targeted the docking sequence at 7:19 please? Happy Birthday! Keep up the fantastic work.

Submariners can also get problems with their eyes, simply because for months on end, there's a wall no more than 20 ft in any direction. After some time under way, even the end of a corridor can get blurry. Not a personal experience, but something I've heard from a LA Class Sonarman. #TheMoreYouKnow :)

Do you have any tips on how I can keep my stations from shaking all around? After I dock a few modules together it’s all just starts to shake it’s self apart.

    • @revenevan11

Turn off SAS immediately upon docking, then you can turn it back on. Sometimes the vessels get into a fight when first fused into 1 lol. You can also try turning off reaction wheels on everything but the center module of the space station if it happens more than just after docking. Another very useful tip is to turn on advanced tweakables or whatever in settings, and then you can use autostrut to make your stations less wiggly and more sturdy even once they're being built in orbit so that you can basically place invisible struts outside of the VAB, making parts that are docked basically strutted to the heaviest parts or root parts or whatever. This can also cut down on the kraken shaking your stations to pieces, since the parts of you station won't end up in a harmonic oscillation where each of them trying to correct their position makes the shaking worse until it breaks, since the simply won't shake (or at least shake less, and not independently) or the shaking is dampened by the struts.

You need a relay antena on the mothership and a advanced probe, that enables the autopilot.
