From Season 4 Episode 1 "Sharpe's Regiment": Sharpe and Harper return to England to recruit for the South Essex regiment and discover corruption in the highest ranks of the British army. Reporting their findings only makes them targets in an assassination attempt, so to prove their allegations they fake their own deaths and re-enlist in South Essex.

Every scrap of paper, every notebook. Now that's foldering.
👏👏👏👏👏
That's stretching it too far... go to your room sir!
Actually screamed laughing
Thank you

Hahahahha
making the secret Irishman admit he's Irish, now that's soldiering.
His name's Lynch; it's not a particularly good secret.
Lynch's face.... 😂😂😂😂😂
@@peterilisituk2830 True, but in the book it's made explicit that he does everything he can to hide his Irish identity, including using an English accent and particularly targeting the Irish recruits.
He's likely a Billy.
anymore isridh hed be fighting in the americas
Exposing corruption while inventing Undercover Boss? That’s soldiering.
Great acting by even secondary characters
Girdwood has the tic of a PTSD suffering behind the pomp and automation of the 'Prussian Fashion', while Lynch's self-repressed Irish accent breaks through at the same time as his confident facade
Genius, of course I had forgot Lynch, is a surname of Irish origin. A subtle, masterful point!
Well given he was ambushed by Black Irish as a young officer (who probably did some dodgy things to him), not entirely surprised that the has PTSD. But to be fair, he was a good trainer by knowing all recruits by name and recognising when someone had served previously.
@@thesmithersy Ambush would've broke a lesser man
And the actor playing Girdwood is Irish himself.
@@thesmithersy Good officers and trainers don't hunt their men through the marshes
Destroying a empire to win a battle is no victory. Ending a battle to save a empire is no defeat ~Duke of Wellington~
Gowron stares in approval
So your blood is Klingon after all.
I love that seeing Girdwood get ready again it shows how perfectly regimented and planned out his mornings go. Every step, even his assistant standing in the way of the mirror until Girdwood is ready to look at his reflection.
Except he doesn't usually say "Good morning," till he walks out the door. But they needed to set up Sharpe's entrance, so I, in my infinite mercy, will allow it
I've always loved Richard Sharp and his band of merry men. Even Sergeant Major Patrick Harper. I enjoy all of Richard Sharps adventures.
Harper's the best. The two had a rocky start, but he eventually became Sharpe's most loyal supporter and best friend.
@@OptimusWombat They started just like my dad and his best friend.
Well put Jessica, mind you I,m an Irishman....quite well balanced...I have a chip on each shoulder...!!!.
@Jessica Buckman maybe one day you will love him enough to spell his name correctly?
Girdwood: Is Lord Fenner, secretary of war or is he not in that position sir?
Sharpe: Is the duke of york, commander in chief or is he not sir?
Well played Uno reverse card sir, very well played 💯
Girdwood: ...o.o....
Sharpe: who do you look to for advancement sir? Your chief or your friends?
Girdeood: *O.O*
There's an interesting paradox in the authorities to whom they refer to reinforce their positions:
Girdwood representing the old guard, deeply and rigidly traditional reaching for a man in elected office.
Sharpe representing the changing army and the slow emergence of meritocracy, modernization and professional soldiers reaches for the monarchy, a hereditary institution without a whiff of democracy about it.
oh you wish...Girdwood got his command strictly because his backer just so happened to be Henry Simmerson. up until this point in his life, Girdwood's only victories had been poetic victories, not battlefield victories. the man was a mess of phobias, insecurities, corruption and general incompetence. in short, Girdwood is no soldier at all, just a ponce with a rich backer, well aware that he only got as far as he did BECAUSE of said backer.
Sharpe...Sharpe got his command through a great deal of effort, not because he wanted it, but because of what his actions. Sharpe has many battlefield victories, is willing to learn from those who know more than him in various subjects, and even embraces new technology a few times. in short, Sharpe is an actual soldier, perhaps not a gentleman, but he knows his job and does it well.
@@darkclawgreatonenasOh I'm aware of that. I'm just remarking on how the corrupt always know where the power lies, no matter how much they may play at being traditional.
It's very interesting, and quite accurate too! Empowering the lower professional classes to combat the powers of entrenched aristocracy was something that was mutually beneficial for Monarchs and commoners. Even absolute monarchies would employ this tactic! At the end of the day, nobody likes middle management 😂
Lord Fenner wasn't elected, but that's only a small point
I've started watching them again I'm up to Sharpe's enemy... brilliant series still holds up well.
Maybe do some exercise in between each one. You can be ‘thinny’ then
Best episode of undercover boss...
The actor portraying Girdwood did an excellent job, I found him disgusting, hilarious, interesting and sympathetic all at the same time, very well played
"... Every scrap of paper, every notebook,... everything." When he commands there.
Fusing Girdwood's broken sword back together: now that's soldering!
Harper’s face: LOOOUUUDDEEERRRRR!!!
GOD!!! SAVE!!! IRELAND!!!
-"Well, sir, on first sighting the door, I naturally gave the order to Smith. That's my style, sir!"
'I am Sargeant Major Harper of the 1st. And you are? *Filth?'*
"Lynch, SUH!"
“God save Ireland”
Louder!

Using a low melting point metal alloy to join metal parts to form a mechanical or electrical bond. Now that's soldering!
No way any soldier in the British Army would cross Sharpe. His exploits would have legend since he saved Wellington.
Don't forget he took the eagle at Talavera
God save Ireland Indeed
One does not simply walk into the barracks of the South Essex Regiment and take incriminating evi ... oh wait
oh that one was priceless
First class acting there at the end. God save Ireland indeed.
Gotta give it to you Irish.
You put the ire in the land.
The young recruit behind Lynch is trying to keep from laughing.
After watching that scene I can't help but think of lynch marching into a battle still screaming god save Ireland at the top of his lungs...
It’s better than the books. He gets put in an Irish battalion and js ‘killed’in battle by a lot of men and bayonets.
GAWD SAVE IRUHLAND
"God save Ireland"?
Now that's loudering.
Commenting on a Sharpe clip, now that's soldierin' 😂
When you play the game of soldiering, you win, or you die.
Great show .
Melting a small piece of pliable metal to fuse two components? Now that's soldering.
Turning up unexpectedly and telling Girdwood he's been a naughty boy - that's scoldering, but doing an intimate search for missing documents....that's Marigoldering.
when a CO have the notebook ready... and asks Nicely... Opsssssss 😀
the title alone it is worth to watch this clip 😄😄😄😂
My favourite part is the caption at 2:50 saying "private porn"
Now i have flashbacks to naked Sean in Lady Chatterley's Lover... Please excuse me...
Sharp and Harper became a good duo despite their first encounter.
Great TV Series!!
Louder!
4:40 the look you get when you know your sergeant is going to get a reaming....
Wait a minute, that's Lovejoy's lovebird! No demeaning or such iof any kind ntended, she was great there also. Can't forget such a pretty face! Sam Cavendish sure had his genes right, or then it was his wife at that time. Once again, very well done.

I CAN'T HEAR YOU!
horse-guarding someone ... now that's ... horse-guarding?
"Louder!" "GOD SAVE IRELAND!" Book is better but film is hilarious 😂. "Because by christ it's in danger from me."
