Times have changed. In '98 French team was riding the bus within crowds of people. Now they are separated by hordes of police and fences. Police state, we have arrived.
I doubt. There were thousands of people in 1998. Whole Champs Elysee was covered with crowds of people like today. But today police hordes surround and patrol French team bus. People in the crowd are now potential terrorist, a potential danger. And it's not like there are more football fans, it's just hype is omnipresent on social media, you can't escape it. You almost feel like an idiot if you don't pay attention to this football hype.
There's a reason why the bus and the crowd are separated and that's because in 1998, the bus did 50 meters and then he had to stop 'cause there were so many people he couldn't move forward. So they learned from their errors but imo they didn't solve the problem that well 'cause the crowd can't really celebrate with the players adding that the bus went really fast
