Hi Alan, thanks for great videos! I have a question that might sound stupid. Anyway, from all the bluetooth speakers you have listened to and reviewed, which one sounds best when volume is low? Low like wife is sleeping in the room next to you with doors open. But still with a rich detailed bass competent sound? I gotta go big to get that quality?
It was 30 quid around 5years ago mines still going strong twin drivers about 4inch . Units about 12 inches across with a lil black squishy handle on top and metal grill nice diamond press pattern in it
Beats pill makes me happy for mumble rap and hip hop, that touch of deep bass and the highs on it are really perfect for piercing high hats. Using the Spotify eq you can taim its highs a bit, I usually play with really high end pro sound equipment but I’ve been having a lot of fun with it recently. Definitely it sounds great with some genres and some terrible
I appreciate your videos. I say be true to yourself and create what you enjoy. It seems the Bose Soundlink Flex held its own against some stiff competition.
@alanrossreviews The Bose Flex 2 was nicely discounted for Cyber Monday, so I grabbed a pair to try stereo and party modes. Also ordered the Harman Kardon Go Play 3 for under $200 based on your thoughts.

I just bought two tribute stormbox micro 2's and in Stereo to me they sound incredible for little speakers. What do you think?? Ray

I gotta compliment you for doing your videos the way you do. When I first saw your videos I was like "Wow! This guy gives us frequency responses" and I only skipped to that part. The jokes and editing was a bit too much for me. But since then I have enjoyed the editing more and more. Your videos seem really authentic and even if they are longer, the people that want the long ones dont mind (that's what she said)
On the topic of travel-sized speakers? ave you ever thought of reviewing smaller speakers than these? Like shower/clip-to-backpack class such as the JBL Clip/Go, UE Miniroll, Tribit Stormbox Micro, Soundcore Mini 3/Glow Mini, those kinds of speakers?
I've been a V-shaped kinda guy since my early teens (good old times with a puny 3 band EQ in cassette players), but, from your videos alone, I can't enjoy the Beats Pill, it just sounds way too harsh in the treble. And I can't really seem to be able to listen to that deep bass you're talking about, but maybe that's due to RUclips's compression. It saddened me that you don't seem to like the Soundlink Flex that much, anymore. I've bought a HK Luna a few months ago (because it was supposed to be this "small bass monster") and I really liked it, at first, but soon after I noticed mine is L shaped, it seriously lacks in the upper mids and treble (mine sounds nothing like yours in this video, it just has this really nice hefty punch, nothing more). So, not really a fun sound coming out of it. Thus, I decided to go for a Soundlink Flex for 100€ on Prime Day and it's been my favourite portable speaker ever since! I can get the same punch that I get from my Luna (to my ears, at least) with the added bonus of a nice, well rounded treble, no matter what volume I listen to it in (I never go beyond 80'% or so). Funnily enough, I do like the Flip 6, I think what it does is quite nice for it's very small size (though I'd take the Flex or Luna instead, any day) and I was never able to get a satisfying sound out of the Motion+ (I bought it 3 times and returned it to Amazon 3 times, only to compare to other speakers I've kept, instead of it). No matter how much I'd EQ the shit out of it. Instead, I've been a happily owner of a Sony XB33 ever since, to this very day (and because of your videos!), which is a speaker I find to have a much fuller and enjoyable sound, overall, with minimum EQ necessary. Different ears, different tastes, I guess. Anyway, I know you didn't ask for my opinion, I'm just rambling, from one rambling guy to another 😅 I guess different units from the same speaker can sound different to different ears. But you'll always be my go-to guy for portable stereo (or mono, eheh!), Al! [insert manly hug here] Please don't cut your rambling down and please continue to keep yourself in the videos, as you're noway near as robotic and dull as most other reviewers out there (nor bitter, patronising and angry - I'm looking at you, Oluv!), and we genuinely need that 🙏 Sincere thanks for having the time to squeeze another one in for us, Al! Yeah, that's what she said... 😁
i do like the soundlink flex for what it does in its form factor, i did say it was at a disadvantage in this test as the others have bigger volumes but it is limited by its single driver.
While I think reviews should be done "as they come out of the box", I dont agree with that being the only fair way to do it. If one speaker has the option to EQ, ie an extra feature, it's only fair to showcase that to some degree. Maybe with an EQ that's not as extreme as your past ones? I don't know, but the EQ is a game changer especially when it comes to speakers like the Pill and Flex that sacrifice volume for a balances frequency response, as you can essentially do the same with an EQ
Or just if you're on Android in general there's quite a few EQ options from wavelet to poweamp to musicolet. Although sometimes there are compatibility issues with third party apps especially power amp EQ is always a headache I find. That is the benefit of having a first party solution to EQ. The LG phones were perfect for this as they had built-in EQ and the quad dac qnd all of that s***.
Here he his, Mr BOOMY bass! Why no Minirig or Uboom L? Too flat for you?!! Kidding. Great video. Love the hat and Dad's Army reference 😂 can't beat the classics 👍🏻
Alan: What is the best bluetooth speaker you tested for putting under the computer screen for 90% movies, 10% music? No budget and I keep it at 30%-70% volume.
@@alanrossreviews Nothing bigger than 15". Something that is not inconvenient on a desk and has some bass for movies. I understand BT isn't audiophile. Just "good enough" sounding to enjoy a movie without thinking of the speaker (as most BT compromise a lot on sound by adding too much flubby bass for the kiddies and their hip hop).
Hi Alan, you should get a Sony ult field 1 and if u want tell us what you think. now it's really at a good price (I paid 84€ on Amazon IT) and the sound quality is really fabulous. Best speaker i’ve ever heard for it’s size.
i still like the motion plus over the other speakers.. I have two, I gave the other one to my girlfriend so we can have tws when we see each other.haha
I own the Pill, it’s actually a pretty sweet little speaker. It hits surprisingly deep for its size and it’s quite a fun listen, though at higher volumes it tends to sound a bit brighter than I’d like, I can live with that though. Like you mentioned, mids are definitely its weak point, fortunately I can tinker with the bands in Spotifys eq to counter that slightly. I’d say it helps to an extent so I’m not too fussed. What I have noticed however is my unit has a tendency to distort a bit above half volume when playing tracks with a lot of kicking bass. It reminds me of a B&O kind of distortion where the driver almost sounds as though it’s being pushed a little too hard. I haven’t heard others talk about this so I’m not sure if I’ve received a dud or if they all have it to an extent and I’m just being overly picky. The beginning of the song “Let me go OH OH” by SG Lewis really highlights the distortion I’m hearing.
@@lewis02mc im not home so can't try it but ive only heard the standard distortion on this that they all do. A tendency to gurgling when really pushed.
@@alanrossreviews The gurgling you talk about seems to be the nature of these smaller speakers, with their tiny drivers and heaps of dsp. They all sound fine at low to mid volumes but as soon as they’re pushed they quickly fall apart and become a compressed mess, the Pill is no different in that regard. What I’m hearing on the Pill that’s concerning me however is the same type of distortion that has plagued some of B&O’s speakers for years, I’ve also heard the same distortion on the Soundcore X600. The best way I can describe it is a sort of “pow pow” effect when listening to tracks with a heavy kick drum. I’m no expert but again, it sounds to me as though the driver is being pushed a little too hard on certain tracks. Trying to figure out if it’s just my unit or if it’s a more widespread thing.
@@alanrossreviews That’s exactly why I sent the X600 back, now I’m having similar artifacts on the Pill. Bit of a shame really, it’s otherwise a pretty neat little speaker.
Nice one as usual Alan! It's really impressive of the Beats to really go down that low on bass without passive radiator(s), haven't seen or heard this HK Luna till this video, if price is not an issue, how does it compare to Soundcore Boost in terms of deep warm bass, full sounding at least till up to 75% volume I gladly anticipate & wait for release of Earfun Uboom X & Tribit Stormbox Blast 2, Tribit has recently released a new Mini speaker with dual 6 watts drivers, light & passive radiator, i wonder how that'll compare against the likes of Soundcore mini 3, Bose soundlink mini, Tribit Stormbox Micro 2...
@@alanrossreviews Love the vids by the way but you are spot on with new tribit stuff. I've learned the hard way (should've waited on your review of the mini) When is a full refund not a full refund? When the company is tribit! They stuff you for shipping both ways and let you handle organising returns and customs statements etc, others don't do it like JBL etc. Just avoid till they wise up. @alanrossreviews Really? That's so sad to hear Let this not be what I am thinking, is the game plan of these budget companies to first make great speakers to garther fans & build great fan base & trust, then later start making & selling inferior junks with reference to past glory? #Thinkingoutloud

Gostei muito da Harman kardon luna. Gostaria de uma comparação com jbl Charge 5 e Motion 300 . Parabéns pelo trabalho 🎉
charge 5 wins
[insert manly hug here] Please don't cut your rambling down and please continue to keep yourself in the videos, as you're noway near as robotic and dull as most other reviewers out there (nor bitter, patronising and angry - I'm looking at you, Oluv!), and we genuinely need that 🙏
Sincere thanks for having the time to squeeze another one in for us, Al!
I don't know, but the EQ is a game changer especially when it comes to speakers like the Pill and Flex that sacrifice volume for a balances frequency response, as you can essentially do the same with an EQ
you are welcome do make those reviews.
man flips6 or motion plus, trusting big on you for this, cant have demo of motion pls
flip 6 is horrid to my ears
@@alanrossreviews motion plus or Sony ULT (I do want some bass preference)
If you got Spotify, they have EQ. So you can modify it there. But yeah $150 for such a small speaker is not worth it imo.
especially with its lack of other features
@@alanrossreviews But it has a B on it
Or just if you're on Android in general there's quite a few EQ options from wavelet to poweamp to musicolet. Although sometimes there are compatibility issues with third party apps especially power amp EQ is always a headache I find.
That is the benefit of having a first party solution to EQ. The LG phones were perfect for this as they had built-in EQ and the quad dac qnd all of that s***.

@@alanrossreviews Nothing bigger than 15". Something that is not inconvenient on a desk and has some bass for movies. I understand BT isn't audiophile. @@alanrossreviews dont tell me they did the same to this as the motion boom😭
i dont know, the most complaints was always about the motion boom
The beginning of the song “Let me go OH OH” by SG Lewis really highlights the distortion I’m hearing.
this comment shows that beats pill, unfortunately didn't beat physics 😂
Trying to figure out if it’s just my unit or if it’s a more widespread thing.
well on the x600 for sure its the overdrive, the drivers are simply pushed too hard and bottoming out.
@@alanrossreviews That’s exactly why I sent the X600 back, now I’m having similar artifacts on the Pill. Bit of a shame really, it’s otherwise a pretty neat little speaker.
