Deftones makes you feel like you’re floating through space
Chase Mendenhall I get a very Spacey vibe from the intro.
After hearing this song front row dead center last night I’m convinced my body floated to another dimension
Deftones is about vibing not technical riffs.

I actually like this song more than the other song by them. When I first listened to this song I was nodding my head the whole time too. I can’t wait to hear the rest of the album Friday
Chino puts a lot of those high, hardcore vocals in this song. One of my favorites. This album is so amazing. And this song, it’s unsettling and satisfying at the same time.

this track was meant to be exactly what it is... the melody, while low, is fantastic...not every metal band has to try and melt your face and make your ears bleed, ffs

Facts .
This was a pretty underwhelming song to me on the first listen. But after returning to it a few times, I personally see it as a grower. I think a lot of dissatisfaction comes from unmet expectations, like wanting more out of the riffs or chorus. But returning to the track knowing what you're going to get makes you appreciate the nuances in the production and variated lines a bit more. 🍍
How is your face NOT melting to this masterpiece?!?! This shit is so damn spectacular it hurts.
Pineapple 🍍 With Ohms being the last track and Genesis being the first track I think these are just a glimpse of what is on the album. Chino coming in with harsh vocals, the lyrics of this song and repeating “balanced”. It seems like this is all about meditation (which I know nothing about). It just makes me think we may have an album with a lot of harsh and chill. Honestly, I think we all need it right now. Seems like we might have a concept album here.
Lyrically seems to be about our time and how polarizing it is. He’s saying balanced so he’s not leaning too far right or left of the political spectrum. Also speaking of getting informed which is badly missing in so many people who don’t dig past the headlines.

The urgency created by the synth makes this song for me. Sooooooo great!

This song is really really good IMHO. Though I can totally understand not vibing with the chorus popping up 3 times. Not their strongest chorus or anything. But I love the overall feel of it. It's like a doomy, sludgy and synthy song -- which is completely out of the realm for what the band typically does.

They are influenced by Smashing Pumpkins. Other influences I hear, The Cure and Faith No More, Mike Patton particularly.
Most metalcore and mathcore are influenced by Mike Patton as well, in some way.
In my opinion, all the tracks are made to be heard while on drugs.

I think its a great song but anything with low chunky Deftones riffs I usually like anyway. I think Chinos vocals are great. I agree its repetitive but a lot of 90’s metal bands are going for this less is more vibe on albums these days.

Pineapple
This song was pretty underwhelming after the first listen but definitely grows on you afterwards. Now I’m at the point where loving it even more than ohms. It’s crazy one time I put a bunch of Deftones songs on shuffle, and genesis came on right after change. They blended so well into each other I wouldn’t have known that the songs were over 20 years apart. It’s insane that they’ve managed to keep that same vibe and level of quality after all these years
Great reaction dude , but like me I had to hear it about 3 times ,and after ten times ,I really paid attention and now I got this song on repeat ,it's a fucking grower and when it does ,you will eat words later bud lol

dudes you gotta check out Black Peaks. Home or Fate I & II are great introductions. One of the best up and coming bands
Love this new track. Once I read the lyrics even more so into it. I listened to this song on premiere four times in a row. I like that this song faked you out a couple of times. Only thing not a fan of was the voice effects on the chorus.
This song is a banger! I like Ohms but I’m loving this one more! Honestly in my opinion I think he pretty much did about use all nine strings it sure sounded like it to me some kick ass!!! Pineapple!!!!

Maybe if we had some PINEAPPLE Express this song would have hit me harder lol but seriously I like that this song has a bit more bite to it than OHMS did, but overall I'm just really underwhelmed with what Deftones are bringing to the table right now tbh. It doesn't suck by any means, but I know what they're capable of and these songs just aren't doing it for me. But as far as a song request goes I'd say check out Monochromatic Black's new track Abaddon, now that song has some bite to it lol
What happened to the girl who use to be on the vids?
Metalbabe couldn't be ob the Channel anymore because she moved temporarily for her new job. She is supposed to be back though so I expect an Update about it soon..

What I meant: If I'm not mistaken, she is back with you, but it's unclear if she can come back to the Channel, because of her job. Mr Mayhem I mean it’s heavier for sure, but Ohms was a more impressive track riff wise & more radio friendly
The chorus in da whole album is like that...it is so difficult to create originals chorus and changes in the songs.

Pineapple! 🍍🍍🍍For whatever reason I have a super hard time getting into deftones. I like maybe two of their songs but everything else just kind of sounds the same to me and nothing really appeals to me. I understand why people like them as their style is definitely cool and I can hear their influence in a lot of newer music. Which is weird, as I absolutely love bands with strong Deftones influences(like Loathe for example) but deftones just doesn't do it for me for whatever reason.
And if you are looking for another suggestion try: Split by the March Ahead. This is one of Johnny Franck of Attack Attack's new bands along with his other band Blimuri.

yeah the chorus weakens the song, it needed some backing guitars or something.
Somehow it feels as if they left the mute button turned on for the rest of the harmony
you know like some other interesting chords and harmonic work with synths filling the space more, like they used to do in the "Saturday Night Wrist" album

wow the annoying fake metal girl is looking a lot different!!! holy shit :D!!! obviously opinions vary, i liked the song a lot kinda made me remember of the old deftones a bit more, even tho they pretty much always have this hard/melodic constant changing in songs, some albums with a bit more of calmer songs, some a bit more on the aggressive side...this song at least kinda made my brain go "yup that's deftones"...i kinda feel like deftones is more about the journey and the vibe and not so much about the technical stuff.... but i'm a huge fan so maybe i'm just more inclined to like wareva comes out especially when its new stuff idk... :D....anyway great reaction!! and stay safe guys :)
deftones isnt a technical band. y'all are just used to listening to metalcore
TruAxe MTG agreed. Haha. They’re always looking for breakdowns and technicals since they have more of a metal core preference. Now it’s not to knock them, but that’s usually what I’ve noticed for most of their videos. Especially when they review prog metal bands. Not everything needs to be technical and have breakdowns all the time. But it is what it is.
Deftones is about an over all sound, VS Technicality, thats what makes them great IMO
Alex_gfy agreed. Their music is all about atmospheres and they always deliver on that.
Pretty uninspired - much like their last effort 'Gore'. So far, they're 0-2 with me. I used to be really excited for new Deftones, but if the 2 songs they released are any indication of what's to come, then count me out. So far, all I'm hearing is bonus track material.
Jerry L. Explain “uninspired” because they actually were all inspired this time, as opposed to on Gore. They sound just as good if not better than they did a decade ago
@@Therealfakemaxgoldberg Just because they say that they were "all inspired" this time around, doesn't necessarily mean that it reflects on what they record. I can say that "I was even more inspired this time around" (whatever that may be), but it doesn't mean what I'm doing now, as opposed to what I did before, is all of a sudden a game changer. I've been listening to this band since '95', and they were always able to create something fresh and interesting with each record going forward. Their last few records have all been pretty much paint by numbers Deftones in terms of not traveling too far from their comfort zone. Nothing about these new tracks blow me away. And if these songs were the two tracks they choose to push, then I can't imagine how much inspiration is on the rest of the record.
Jerry L. Being consistent in their sound & vibe isn’t “uninspired” just because you’re not blown away every time they come back. They’re making the songs they want, are all on the same page, & are all very happy with the record, that’s clearly them being inspired. Whenever they weren’t, they were very open about it in the past

Jerry L. If that’s how you wanna see it, most of us don’t tho & are more than happy that the guys are still working together & are happy with the results. Form your opinion on the album as a whole after it comes out

During the writing of Gore Stephen was checked out, barely involved and not really hanging out with Chino and the boys, didn’t like the vibe or the riffs being created and THIS TIME- Steph and EVERYONE in the band are chillin, kicking it together and actually hanging out together AS FRIENDS.
As a musician myself, the best, most inspired music I’ve ever made was when I was getting along with my best friends in the world, who just so happened to be my guitarist, bassist, and singer at the time.
These two songs sound to me like everyone in the band is having a good time, remembering why they started playing music together in the first place. Sounds like they’re having fun, and seems very inspired to me.
