    Awesome! I'm pretty stoked about this AVR, On paper it checks all the marks for me. Hoping for some video and written reviews soon. Cheers!

    Well, I have 3 Emotiva mono blocks for the LR and CTR channels and a Topping dac D 90 and 3 subs and I shall use them all! I think it is the most updated receiver on the mkt at a great price!

    • @ripewave
      @ripewave  Год назад +2

      I think these will sell very well. I too have three Emotiva mono blocks - nice to have that in common. I should try a Topping DAC sometime. Using MOTU M4 (based on ESS Sabre32 Ultra DAC) currently with good results. Jon

    Thank you for this great tutorial: We now need a comparison between some of these similar receivers: The Marantz Cinema 40 - Arcam AVR21 - Antham MX740 - I would imagine that with some many running channels that this receiver will get very hot and may need an external fan.?

  • @nickmaddalena985
    @nickmaddalena985 Год назад +3

    With all your recent reviews talking about marantz 50 not having the best sound quality, and the antham av disater you had, this integra is looking mighty fine.
    Hoping it is as good as other reviewers are saying.

  • @GurvanBHC7

    Thank you so much, I was about to buy the Marantz Cinema 40, I have my LCR in XLR balanced so this Integra is perfect for me. I also have a Mini DSP for the subwoofers so only 2 outputs don't bother me. And in addition there is the possibility of upgrading to Dirac Live Bass Control. Very cool. I will wait to buy it

    • @ripewave
      @ripewave  Год назад

      The Integra does appear to provide a higher value solution at a lower cost. The XLR balanced capabilities certainly raises the bar - Marantz take notice your top of line AVR has no XLR - Denon does, but only at $6,500! I still find value in using the Mini DSP despite having calibration support from DIRAC and others. -Jon

    Great review Jon! For music does it allow for streaming a local music library from a device like a NAS? Update: It will allow if it supports DNLA protocol. Most NAS devices do.

    I really like the build layout and all the connection options on this receiver. Having Dirac included is nice. The zone 2 sub connection is interesting as i run multiple outside zones off 2 different receivers and if i could get a outside sub i could make use of that. wife might think its a bit ridicules to have outside subs!

    • @ripewave
      @ripewave  Год назад +3

      I am with you on the outside sub. Wish I had one to go with my Polk Atrium speakers. It is okay to be a bit ridiculous. Your guests will notice the difference, but don't expect everyone to get why. -Jon

  • @sammy10001
    @sammy10001 Год назад +7

    The impressive thing about the dirac bass is, availability now.
    Unlike the 2024 expected date from the new denon and marantz.
    Closest thing to this things capability is arcam 41 which is almost double the cost.
    This is definitely on my list because I trust it. I have an onkyo rz50, so I know the brand and trust it, but I also really want to try out the new Sony line for their 360 sound mapping

    I would likely choose the DRX 3.4. I've actually seen open box units going for $1300 -- which is a great deal for something with all those channels of processing and DIRAC. I wish it had some balanced outputs tho, but that is really unheard of at that price. I am using a Emotiva BasX amp anyway that doesn't have balanced inputs.

    • @ripewave
      @ripewave  Год назад +1

      The feature set including DIRAC at that price is a great value.

  • @stevet7487

    One important update to this excellent coverage is that Dirac base management is included at no additional cost unlike almost every other brand that charges up to $500 extra for it.

    Integra products excite me on their insides but lose me on their outsides…ie looks. When you spend this amount of money (or more) for a receiver or processor, one should be buying both a tremendous sounding piece AND a piece of art that looks great on the outside IMHO. Integra has obviously targeted the customer who does not care about looks (vs the great sound & looks of say Emotiva; Marantz AV10; or Mac gear). There is a lot packed in there for your money though and I’m very happy to see Auro 3D support for Auromatic upmixing of music sources. Great review Jon. Keep em’ coming’ buddy.

      Hey Guys, I'm now buying an Integra and I've also been thinking about it: the design is rather plain, but I don't think it's cheap and in comparison: I don't like Marantz's design at all, so that's really a reason for me not to buy it.

  • @aspjake123

    Love the balance i/o but feel for the majority of us HT fans they will go unused. The XLR cables also bring in another cost factor, but all said I would like the option.

    • @ripewave
      @ripewave  Год назад +2

      Fair points. Just neat to see a brand trying a different mix. As their flagship it is the right model to add in some of the more advanced options like XLR ins/outs.

    Hi there, great piece of gear if and only if, the reliability is there ! was not the case for the earlier late models. A good question is, do the amp section is fully or partially disconnectable like the curent Denon or Marantz models in a Prepro config in order to use full external amplification and a gain in consumption and SN ratio and a decreasing heating ?!?

    • @ripewave
      @ripewave  Год назад +2

      I did hear of the quality and customer response issue which Onkyo, Integra, Pioneer had in recent years. I suspect that was in part to designs which were finalized while the original owners were still in control. We are hopeful that VOXX is driving quality into the design and the initial images of their first release post acquisition look promising - a big step up.
      I am unable to find any evidence of being able to disconnect internal amplifiers for improved performance like Denon/Marantz.
      I would like to see them add that in and also release an AV Processor separate for each brand.

    I think it could be a very great unit for someone that does not have a lot of space however, for someone like myself. I like to have separate amplifiers, for what I want to power and with external amplifiers, you're not really closing the door to upgrading but I greatly do appreciate the review and I think from what I can tell so far it looks like a good AV.

    Even for the extra $1000.00 over the Emotiva MR1, it's worth saving for. Offers a lot more for marginally less. The new Emotiva only has HDMI 2.0, no Wi-Fi capability / I'm all in for this new Integra.

    • @TheFrugalAudiophile
      @TheFrugalAudiophile Год назад

      I agree! The MR1 may sound great -- hard to say without hearing it -- but it is really lacking in features. Including DIRAC with it would have been a real game changer! I think it's a real misstep for Emotiva, but I could be wrong. Only time will tell I guess.

    • @ripewave
      @ripewave  Год назад +1

      Are you looking for Wi-Fi (a wireless connection to the internet) or are you looking for streaming services? or both?
      In my case I prefer a wired Ethernet connection for its reliability and throughput. However, I understand why many would want the convenience of wireless to access the internet services. Integra does offer great value. -Jon

      I think Dirac is the biggest advantage Onkyo/Integra/Pioneer has over the market at their price point. -Jon

    • @ripewave
      @ripewave  Год назад +2

      For Emotiva Dirac you jump from the MR-1 ($1999) to the XMC-2 ($2,499) + BasX A5 ($599) + BasX A6 ($649) = $3,747
      The Integra DRX-8.4 = $3,200 with an all-in-one solution + other features. If it sound great! they will sell sell sell!
      Sony STR-AZ5000ES = $2,099 - also a 11 channel contender, but not Dirac

    What is the preamp out voltage for the integra drx 3.4?

  • @ebarbie5016
    @ebarbie5016 Год назад +5

    Calling these a x.4 AVRs is decieving people. They have only 2 independent subwoofer output, so they should be called x.2 If you want a true x.4, go with the new Denon/Marantz AVRs

    • @ripewave
      @ripewave  Год назад +1

      Integra is doing with .4 now the same thing brands have been doing with .2 for year - attempting to deceive those that haven’t studied the details. We can make any independent dual subwoofer output (true .2) AVR a .4 using a splitter. I work hard on this channel to identify the truly independent outputs.
      The latest Denon/Marantz are the lowest cost AVRs out there with 4 independent subwoofer outputs. Now they just need room calibration that will address multi-sub. I understand the March Dirac upgrade won’t provide that functionality.

    If I don't need all the channels, would I sacrifice sound quality by going with the 5.4?

    • @ripewave
      @ripewave  Год назад +2

      No - sound may actually improve. If you have less speakers to drive with the internal amplifiers, they results will likely improve. The extra channel provide a more immersive sound, not necessarily better sound. -Jon

    I wonder how many of the amplification are assignable

    • @ripewave
      @ripewave  Год назад +1

      I believe there is only the ability to remap for bi-amplification of the front left, right and center channels. For that, Height 1 reassigns as Front L/R Bi-amp and Height 2 L reassigns to Bi-amp center. Also Height 1 and Height 2 can be reassigned to a passive subwoofers.
      Other than that, assigning is not necessary as there is an amplification (x11) for every channel of a 7.x.4 configuration.
      I don't see an option to turn off an amplifier channel if you are using external amplifiers.
