For me, it's Ishigami from Kaguya-Sama: Love is War. The popular ships with him are the one that sunk and (more personal for me) the one where they don't have much romantic chemistry(more of a friendship chemistry to me).
@@Doopen There are 5 people, but my main one is between Osaragi and Maki. Hayasaka is also a great choice, but it's leaning towards a crack ship. Rei(one of the members of the cheer team) seems like a good fit and Shiranui(a video game partner) is also good.
The worst is when you ship a rarepair that "goes against" the most popular ship in that fandom. It makes you the target for hate immediately, when you're just suffering in rarepair hell anyway 😭

I was once told by a Tumblr mutual I shouldn't "ship those characters together" because the boy reminded them of the ex they cheated on. So seeing the character be in a relationship "made them depressed". My mutual then proceeded to tell me I should ship the girl with a female character instead. Shipping is something else I tell ya 😂

But then they did, and then it gained a little bit of popularity, and then they got more screentime together, and they became decently popular, AND THEN THE SHOW STARTED HINTING IT??, AND IT BECAME ONE OF THE LARGEST IN THE FANDOM?? Haha, a pairing I've been fixating on has 1 fic on FF and ZERO on AO3, in spite of being considered canon by outsiders and casual fans. A Common Sense media page said the girl was the main character's girlfriend, even though it was more of a ship tease where she flirts with him, and he rescues her from being forcibly married to the villain.
Watching my rarepair ship gradually increase in popularity from being almost unheard of to winning the "ship of the year" award in a fan-run voting event has been unimaginably satisfying. There's so much content for them now. I hope all rarepair shippers will get to experience this kind of fortune someday

I'm part of the Hetalia fandom (I am very aware of how cringe this is, my brain chose to hyperfixate on this godforsaken fandom years ago and has not relented). The voting contest is the Hetalia Shipping Awards run by KolkoCat on RUclips, and the pairing is America x Lithuania. The characters themselves have so much chemistry and time together in the manga, it's a sin that they were looked over for so long!
Omg it's even worse when the ship literally has ACTUAL evidence in canon of the characters having legit chemistry and potential feelings and its so obvious but there's somehow CRUMBS to pick from in the fandom 😭😭

Rarepair shippers know the pain of finding a new fanfic of their ship BUT it is tagged alongside a popular one. Because majority of the time, they're mentioned in passing, a past relationship that is barely written/explored in a few sentence, or worse (in my opinion) the author finds the rareship "cute" and feels obligated to tag it albeit the fact that they KNOW it won't be about that ship.
I absolutely love the rare case where it's the exact opposite, where somehow the ship of characters that have barely interacted at all in canon (they stood next to eachother in 1 scene) becomes STUPIDLY large it's so funny shvjxbjsbjsbjbsj
one of my ships sorta started out as a rarepair, and then got more popular but it was still a crackship everyone thought was never going to happen because canon has zero lgbtq+ representation and also the two never interacted (the main reason for people shipping them was that one of them has fire powers and one of them has water powers.) then in canon they started being really close friends, and then there was a CANON short story from one of their perspectives where the other is described as, and I kid you not, "looking all peaceful and pretty and perfect." and like...neither of them really have other love interests at this point, and it definitely feels like they're currently the closest people to each other, and all this to say to everyone reading I wish you a very "your ship goes from crackship to plausibly almost canon"
I was the first person for one of my rare pairs to post the first fic on AO3 for them that was NOT tagged mature and non-con. Fandom is popular enough so it had 2 bookmarks and 1 excited commenter. That was enough for me.
It's more like a rare fandom in my case. My ship is literally the MAIN ship of the show, and people have still never heard of them. To the point where I frequently ask myself "they're canon, right? I didn't invent the whole thing in my head, right?" 😂 I hope not because I've written like thirty fanfics for them. I wish I could draw because there's no fanart. 😢

Please don't misuse medical terms. Also you're super lucky to have friends who like the same rare ship as you, and it sounds like your ship makes a lot more sense than some common ones out there
Me with my little wholesome non-English fandom whose fans are almost entirely adults in their thirties at least or children under the age of 10 and there's like 30 fics on AO3 but they're all one chapter, slice of life and all written by two (2) people ,•-•, Still better than one of my other favorite fandoms with exactly one
My "rarepair" issue is when the pairing makes absolutely no sense in the canon context because the closest to a ship tease happens in my own ideas. I have had this happen several times where I get ideas, sketch them out and later realize "wait this can come off as romantic".
What drives me maddest about my rarepair is that it's the ship with the most canon support for either character. It's not actually canon, but it's more canon than the ships that seem to have an endless supply of fics off the back of basically nothing.

Yesterday my favorite fic for a rarepair got deleted and I am mourning. There was already a little content for the ship, and the fic was the best one at getting the characterization right. I was in denial about it being gone for a solid 30 minutes as I kept trying to search for it on AO3 as if I didn’t have a tab saved for it and had it bookmarked.
There was a rarepair I loved for years, but hardly anyone made posts for it. However, about a year ago, both characters were featured having a sweet moment together in one of the comics, and the ship SKYROCKETED in popularity on Tumblr. It's currently the most popular ship for those two characters. I am so so happy.
I once drew fan art of someone else's rarepair. Made them happy, but I can't convince anyone else that I don't ship them. I don't regret drawing it despite the occasional comment and question about the ship.10/10 would do it again. Would write a fan faction too if they don't mind it being my version of them.
Rarepair shippers are so interesting to me. I’m barely even a shipper at all, which is why I pretty much exclusively main canon relationships. I’m big into storytelling, so I NEED my ship to have had a lot of screen time or a really compelling story for me to be invested. I’m not really invested in the ship itself, but in the story they play a part of and has helped shape. Like, I want the story to advocate its couples to me. I need it to convince, convert and rally me. It doesn’t necessarily do need to actually be canon as a romantic relationship, of course, but the existence of any from of relationship with whatever messiness or loveliness that may entail, that does it for me. I need a STORY, a tropey dynamic or devastating implications, I need LIVES to have been CHANGED. In grand or mundane ways, but that’s the good stuff. But on the other hand, I do understand The Vibes. Sometimes there just are The Vibes. And, fanon can definitely convince, convert and rally just as well as canon (if not even better) if I’m active in the fandom. It’s a very peculiar little social phenomenon, and I appreciate it

miraculous ladybug fan here. i was a feligami (felix x kagami) shipper since for a long time, way before season 5 released. there was little to no content for the ship, it was impossible to find anything for them. now that it’s canon, it’s so much easier to find, and the look on my face when it became canon was “absolutely priceless,” as my cousin (who watched the episodes with me) described jt

3:05 is literally my life. I'm on the tail end of a Treasure Island obsession. As in, the book, from 1883. I am seriously, head over heels, hardcore into shipping Blind Pew and Ben Gunn. Yes, the nasty hobo who leads a ransacking of the main character's house before promptly being killed off in the beginning of the book, and the feral hobo who's been living on the titular island eating goats for seven years prior to the plot. They never interact in the book, but were both members of the same pirate crew in the past.. That's the only justification I have. I genuinely think I might be the only person in the world who ships this. Help.

One of my favourite fandoms has the main, canon pairing between protagonist and her love interest be quite unpopular. I was told I am a rareshipper for liking it better than the fan-pairings once. Still think about that to this day.
I'm not exactly into shipping, but I DO know the feeling of being the only person to like this unpopular character and be the only person in their Tumblr tag drawing them. And it's exactly like this.
I can top this. I once wrote an (unfinished) fic about two actual background characters. As in, they had no lines and didn’t even have names, I just thought they looked cool, and the rest was history.
My favorite ship is a rarepair and I initially felt insecure about it since one character involved in the rare pair was in a very popular ship I personally didn’t like (same goes for the other character in the rarepair too tbh). I felt sad about not finding many fanarts of the rare pair but I was able to find some artists who love this ship like I do and I felt happy. Also thank god I can read Japanese since most of the fanfics of that ship are in Japanese (well it’s from an anime series after all) Anyways Akamika (Akane x Mika from Psycho-Pass) fans… please talk to me I’m building a shrine in my bedroom for them🧍🏻
i owe the japanese part of the fandom my life. my obsession with my most favorite otp got so far i went on pixiv and run fanfics through the machine translation which worked in a sense and even helped me learn japanese a bit (even though now i know more sexual slang than basic vocabulary lol). i even ordered the single doujinshi i could through proxy and it feels like keeping a historical artifact because sadly the author went offline some time after that
@@thereptile4139 not sure if you mean finding new content on pixiv or buying from japan but either way it's better if you learn even the basic japanese grammar because auto translation alone won't get you too far :D it will be much easier to pick apart a sentence the translator messed up if you know how it's structured it will also help to then familiarize yourself with japanese colloquial terms and slang for fanfiction tropes to know what you're getting yourself into
As someone who isn't really interested in romance plots at all be it in fanfiction or the novels themselves (I do like ships, I just don't froth at the mouth for them), the only time I can relate is one fandom where it's not exactly a rarepair It's just nobody's interested in this side of the plot so no one's talking about it in particular

Anyway my issue is that I often ship M/M pairs of typically unconventionally attractive characters so naturally there is very little content and often results in ships that aren't really rarepairs but by virtue of people preferring the younger and or prettier characters basically are rarepairs due to the dearth of content
I have mixed feelings about a rarepair in a pretty popular fandom. One of the evilest and scariest villains in the source material casually WINKS at someone of the race he absolutely loathes. And then, in the spin-off game, he is surprisingly nice to her while being his usual ruthless and arrogant self with everyone else (with little exception for some of his kin). In the alternative timeline he basically brainwashes her to his side and for some reason treats her more like an equal rather than a slave. While, of course, treating her kin, also brainwashed, with mistrust and disdain. No surprise some fans ship it. It's honestly amusing for me to stumble upon this ship once in a while, be it a running joke or a fanart (because it looks very crack if you don't know about these little details i mentioned above) and I certainly do enjoy those bits of content for this rarepair. But do I ship it? Nope, but I have a non-romantic hc about them and starve for more interaction. Oh, and I also hc them both as aroaces for reasons.
This video spoke to me a on a deeply spiritual level. As someone who mostly spends there times in smaller fandoms that are pretty big but compare to other fandoms they are so tiny or small in comparison. I have quite the handful of rare pairs in both smaller fandoms and even bigger ones too. However those two rare pair are two characters that are bitter rivals and the other one is two characters that haven't even met each other yet. What's even funnier it's the same characters but from different adaptions.
Also Rare Pairs is why it’s important to leave lovely encouraging comments, likes, subscribe/follow those who make content for them- it can really make a difference and even sway some people to join! ^^

@@yoshiwoolly i find most of the magoranza content i consume on tumblr! the tags for it are magoranza & taranzalor/taranzolor, though i think magoranza is the main tag. one of my mutuals runs a daily account for it, & they have a pretty cool AU they made! there’s also an ask blog that has magoranza (though it’s pre slash rn), as well as some other people here & there that make it, myself included! if you’re looking for fanfiction, i recommend the series Nowhere to go but up by IronForest & An Amazing Attraction by Rainyk, both on AO3!
I was looking for fics of one of my ships and stumbled upon an author who wrote for said ship and had a fic of a rarepair. Got curious and clicked the ship tag for it. Lo and behold, a total of 20 or so fics for that pairing on AO3. Dug a lil deeper and I got OBSESSEDDDDDD with this one fic that was like 16k words??? Found some other hidden gems, even found fics of them written in my native lang., and yeah that was the moment I started seeing the appeal. I swear that 16k-word fic was what sold me IT WAS SOOOOO GOODDDDD 😭😭eh who knows, maybe one of these days I'll write a fake dating AU for them (their dynamic works well for a standard fake dating AU imo)
I ship two characters that are, I'm fairly certain, the only pair that haven't even met each other, or at least the only ones for each of them. literally every other main character (18 others) have met both of them i think, but these two haven't shared a word. I am fighting in the trenches for them, I can't do art so fanfics featuring them is the best I got
OH MY GOD there's a rarepair I really like, but my problem isn't that not a lot of people consider or perceive their potential. It's that one of the characters is so massively more popular than the other that they use the pairing I like as a past relationship, or as some sort of development for the popular character to then get shipped with someone else. Sometimes, fic writers put it in the tags and I seriously have to consider whether im desperate enough for "past character A/character B"

True rarepair hell is when at first it doesn't seem like it's that rare but soon enough you've read all the fanfics and liked all the fanart for the ship and it feels like an eternity before anything new is posted and half the time you're the only one still posting about it

I have this rare pair i really enjoy and honestly most of the fanfics i find with the ship often end with one of them cheating on the partner to let the other one explore a homosexual relationship? (Often times they make one homophobic because they prefer those characters in homosexual ships instead), if not that half of the things that are said here are told to me-

And surprisingly there were a few Ao3 pages for that ship. Not only that but some of them were pretty well written and made me like it more.
i actually met my husband because we both shipped the same rarepair... we're still actively writing fic for the pairing too! sometimes the real rarepairs are the friends we make along the way. :)
My first ever rarepair that still is my number one otp consists the protagonist and a side villain that was dealt with in just two episodes... And ever since then, even though in canon, that side villain is dead thanks to the protagonist, I find myself imagining them just being in love and just enjoying each other's company. I don't know how I ended up being obsessed with this ship but I'm still obsessed to it-

@@kiv9880 Ok so the rarepair is Iago x Izana from Fire Emblem Fates and the fic is called Solar Eclipse. I found the rarepair fic because I happened to already be a fan of both characters (I have the Iago tag favorited, which is how I found the fic in the first place). I never really considered Iago and Izana shipped together before this fic, they never interact in canon unless you optionally have them fight each other. But the fic does such a good job redeeming Iago (or as the fic describes it “dragged kicking and screaming through character development”) and I live for fics that redeem Iago As for the ship itself, Izana x Iago have a light & dark aesthetic going on in their designs *and* in their personalities, (which is why the fic is called Solar Eclipse). All pretty cool imo, someday I should write an Izana x Iago fic of my own so I can add onto this rarepair content!

Im glad this one did a great job doing this was the author description is so funny hdjsj the character development process does go like that a lot of times. Also the fic name is so cute, as someone with a former astrology obcession a solar eclipse can be used as a deep symbolism with the oposite nature of the characters its just so nice to see this event being resignified. I hope someday you write that fic about them, it sounds really fun to make up conections between the characters, also really potentally angsty, you have the full power of creative liberty yay! I used to be in the Newsies fandom and there was this one ship I really liked. It was of two background characters that only had a couple lines in total and I decided to be one of the few people writing a fiction about them as a ship. So I can relate heavily to this.
I feel a lot of the same pain being in a fandom for a canceled movie. Honestly we're stupidly lucky to have as many clips of the half-finished animation as we do, but I still craved more so I went to ao3. Five fics. I'd make something myself but there's so little content that I don't even know if I'd be able to properly write the characters' personalities 😭
Exactly how I feel with Xreaders, which usually tend to get sh*t on but not so much so in the fandom Im in. Finding M!Readers x Underrated Character I enjoy is rare enough, but in a platonic way is even harder. I didn't think I'd ever write fanfiction or get invested this bad but man here I am doing so anyway. I just think the character is neat and deserves more appreciation

I got really attached to the couple from the drawfee randomly generated couples video from over a year ago. People still draw them sometimes but there are only 13 fics and 9 of them are ones I wrote and the most recent of the other fics is from January 2023. I'm gonna keep trucking tho bc at this point this is my fandom and I have to keep it afloat lol
My rarepair is between 2 characters who are supposed to be very close to each other according to their character descriptions but have literally never spoken to each other on screen. The whole ship is held together by one single sussy paragraph in one of the character's bio. The community's pretty nice tho. Occasionally there will be an official art that has both of them them in one picture and all 8 of us would throw a party.
The thing is, most of the ships I like are normal but... I'm a multishipper so i like to sometimes merge my ships into poly ships. Anyway, that somehow resulted in me being the first to write a fanfiction for a rare pair that I pretty much created.
A friend of mine introduced me to the EXTREME RAIRPAIR that is Celeskuro or Celesturo (Celestia Ludenburg/Mukuro Ikusaba from DR THH.) And the whole concept of a goth lolita gambler girl who is obsessed with idea of living in a castle with vampire butlers at her every need, combined with a soldier posing as model sounds hella dope. Like a secret bodygaurd/the one living her fantasies kinda thing. You know how creative you could get with that? And yet there is BARELY any content of this ship. Those two only exchanged glances once in the ENTIRE game and yet I'm obsessed.

I think I’ve found my own little corner of Rarepair Hell. The rarepair you ship consists of two very minor characters… one of which is *(presumed)* dead… and you’re not super into hurt no comfort… and “(character) Lives” is not yet an official tag (somehow, despite the fact that they NEVER FOUND HIS BODY, AND IT HAS NEVER BEEN RELIABLY CONFIRMED THAT HE IS DEAD)… and only *two* of the fics that use this tag have your rarepair in it… and one has also got a tag you *hate.* I will make this a more popular ship if it is the last thing I do. (I also plan to singlehandedly make fics where the character in question lives more popular if I must.) Edit: LET’S GOOOO, MICHAEL YEW LIVES IS NOW A REAL TAG ON AO3! Now if I can just make this ship more popular… luckily, I’ve got a few things in the works.
I accidentally created a rarepair in my dreams. This happened the night before the release of Enchanting Grom Fright, and I, just like the rest of the Owl House fandom, was really excited. In my dream, I was watching the episode, and it's revealed that Luz's love interest isn't Amity, but actually a character we hadn't seen before. For some reason, I moved on really fast and started shipping Willow and Amity. Then I woke up and saw the actual episode. Don't get me wrong, I love Lumity and Huntlow, and I think it's better that they are canon. (Is Huntlow canon? I don't remember. I think it is?) But every once in a while, my mind wanders back to that accidental rarepair, and thinks "What if..." Edit: After commenting this, I looked it up on ao3, and there are quite a few Amity/Willow fics (146 to be exact). Many of them actually ship them along with Luz. The more you know, I guess.
Recently I got into an actually popular fandom with an actually popular ship and it's so wild to open up the tag multiple times a day to new fics when I'm so used to getting nothing for months on end

smth i find funny is how my favorite pairing got massively popular because of a few fics (slippery slopes to name one) and now surpasses not only the two canon ships for the characters (aleheather and nemma) in fics on ao3 but ALSO one of the other popular ships with a character (noco),,,, alenoah finally getting the attention it deserves
This whole video was so unbelievably painful for me :,) I think I’ve mentioned a few times now that I ship Joichiro Saiba/Nakamura Azami and it’s already bad enough that the food wars fandom is small but the series is over so most people have already moved onto other things… THEY HAVE SO MUCH CHEMISTRY AND THEY WOULD BE SUCH AN ANGSTY BUT CUTE COUPLE!!! I’m pretty much the only one posting fics about Azami in general, let alone Azami/Joichiro so if you do look the pair up on AO3 out of like 9 fics I’m pretty sure 5 of them are mine 😭😭 I won’t stop until I get new people on this ship‼️‼️🦅🦅
While I do ship some 'popular' ships, I do tend to hyperfixate on my plethora of rarepairs more! It doesn't help that most of the fandoms I'm in are older, meaning that the content that is there is all there is, which is usually rather lacking in the rarepair department. Some of the 'types' of rarepairs I love are 'married in canon but no one else cares', 'just barely missed meeting each other in canon but their personalities would have literally made them soulmates', and 'crossover couples that one RUclipsr edits'! 😅 I have plenty of headcanons and incomplete fics and homemade fanart to keep me satisfied with my personal rarepair content, though I do wish more people made content for my rarepairs!
Having a Rarepare in an obscure fandom is painfully hard to find content for, especially with underutilized characters. Also, my brain has crafted a ship for Starling and Stork from Storm Hawks, but I can’t write a Fic to save a life.
My rair pair is specifically a common ROMANTIC pair but a rare PLATONIC pair. I cant tell you the pain of trying to find platonic stuff for a commonly romantic ship 💀 (WX79 and Wormwood)

One of the rare-pairs I cooked up in my kooky brain is an Ot3 between two guys and one girl. Each of them in their little pairings together range from quite rare to fairly popular. I fallen so hard that I dragged some online mutuals into it too.💀I’m so sorry for any of them that happen to be watching. Also, it resulted in me gaining a Discord Server and a new online friendship of fanfic brain-rot with Rare-pairs for the Fandom I’m in. So in the end, it was worth it.

Haha, a pairing I've been fixating on has 1 fic on FF and ZERO on AO3, in spite of being considered canon by outsiders and casual fans. A Common Sense media page said the girl was the main character's girlfriend, even though it was more of a ship tease where she flirts with him, and he rescues her from being forcibly married to the villain.
Watching my rarepair ship gradually increase in popularity from being almost unheard of to winning the "ship of the year" award in a fan-run voting event has been unimaginably satisfying. There's so much content for them now. I hope all rarepair shippers will get to experience this kind of fortune someday

Rarepair shippers know the pain of finding a new fanfic of their ship BUT it is tagged alongside a popular one. Because majority of the time, they're mentioned in passing, a past relationship that is barely written/explored in a few sentence, or worse (in my opinion) the author finds the rareship "cute" and feels obligated to tag it albeit the fact that they KNOW it won't be about that ship.
Aight no more whining, this is the sign that I should continue writing the fics I want. They deserve to be happy. >.

one of my ships sorta started out as a rarepair, and then got more popular but it was still a crackship everyone thought was never going to happen because canon has zero lgbtq+ representation and also the two never interacted (the main reason for people shipping them was that one of them has fire powers and one of them has water powers.) then in canon they started being really close friends, and then there was a CANON short story from one of their perspectives where the other is described as, and I kid you not, "looking all peaceful and pretty and perfect." and like...neither of them really have other love interests at this point, and it definitely feels like they're currently the closest people to each other, and all this to say to everyone reading I wish you a very "your ship goes from crackship to plausibly almost canon"

My "rarepair" issue is when the pairing makes absolutely no sense in the canon context because the closest to a ship tease happens in my own ideas.
I have had this happen several times where I get ideas, sketch them out and later realize "wait this can come off as romantic".
What drives me maddest about my rarepair is that it's the ship with the most canon support for either character. It's not actually canon, but it's more canon than the ships that seem to have an endless supply of fics off the back of basically nothing.
This helps me understand how incredibly painfully dishartening it must be to have people hating on your stuff when you are just doing what you love.

There was a rarepair I loved for years, but hardly anyone made posts for it. However, about a year ago, both characters were featured having a sweet moment together in one of the comics, and the ship SKYROCKETED in popularity on Tumblr. It's currently the most popular ship for those two characters. I am so so happy.

Rarepair shippers are so interesting to me. I’m barely even a shipper at all, which is why I pretty much exclusively main canon relationships. I’m big into storytelling, so I NEED my ship to have had a lot of screen time or a really compelling story for me to be invested. I’m not really invested in the ship itself, but in the story they play a part of and has helped shape. Like, I want the story to advocate its couples to me. I need it to convince, convert and rally me. It doesn’t necessarily do need to actually be canon as a romantic relationship, of course, but the existence of any from of relationship with whatever messiness or loveliness that may entail, that does it for me. I need a STORY, a tropey dynamic or devastating implications, I need LIVES to have been CHANGED. In grand or mundane ways, but that’s the good stuff.
But on the other hand, I do understand The Vibes. Sometimes there just are The Vibes. And, fanon can definitely convince, convert and rally just as well as canon (if not even better) if I’m active in the fandom. It’s a very peculiar little social phenomenon, and I appreciate it

3:05 is literally my life. I'm on the tail end of a Treasure Island obsession. As in, the book, from 1883. I am seriously, head over heels, hardcore into shipping Blind Pew and Ben Gunn. Yes, the nasty hobo who leads a ransacking of the main character's house before promptly being killed off in the beginning of the book, and the feral hobo who's been living on the titular island eating goats for seven years prior to the plot. They never interact in the book, but were both members of the same pirate crew in the past.. That's the only justification I have. I genuinely think I might be the only person in the world who ships this. Help.

One of my favourite fandoms has the main, canon pairing between protagonist and her love interest be quite unpopular. I was told I am a rareshipper for liking it better than the fan-pairings once. Still think about that to this day.
I'm not exactly into shipping, but I DO know the feeling of being the only person to like this unpopular character and be the only person in their Tumblr tag drawing them.

My favorite ship is a rarepair and I initially felt insecure about it since one character involved in the rare pair was in a very popular ship I personally didn’t like (same goes for the other character in the rarepair too tbh). I felt sad about not finding many fanarts of the rare pair but I was able to find some artists who love this ship like I do and I felt happy.
Also thank god I can read Japanese since most of the fanfics of that ship are in Japanese (well it’s from an anime series after all)

i owe the japanese part of the fandom my life. my obsession with my most favorite otp got so far i went on pixiv and run fanfics through the machine translation which worked in a sense and even helped me learn japanese a bit (even though now i know more sexual slang than basic vocabulary lol). i even ordered the single doujinshi i could through proxy and it feels like keeping a historical artifact because sadly the author went offline some time after that

it will be much easier to pick apart a sentence the translator messed up if you know how it's structured

Anyway my issue is that I often ship M/M pairs of typically unconventionally attractive characters so naturally there is very little content and often results in ships that aren't really rarepairs but by virtue of people preferring the younger and or prettier characters basically are rarepairs due to the dearth of content

I have mixed feelings about a rarepair in a pretty popular fandom. One of the evilest and scariest villains in the source material casually WINKS at someone of the race he absolutely loathes. And then, in the spin-off game, he is surprisingly nice to her while being his usual ruthless and arrogant self with everyone else (with little exception for some of his kin). In the alternative timeline he basically brainwashes her to his side and for some reason treats her more like an equal rather than a slave. While, of course, treating her kin, also brainwashed, with mistrust and disdain. No surprise some fans ship it. It's honestly amusing for me to stumble upon this ship once in a while, be it a running joke or a fanart (because it looks very crack if you don't know about these little details i mentioned above) and I certainly do enjoy those bits of content for this rarepair. But do I ship it? Nope, but I have a non-romantic hc about them and starve for more interaction. Oh, and I also hc them both as aroaces for reasons.
Who are these?
This video spoke to me a on a deeply spiritual level. As someone who mostly spends there times in smaller fandoms that are pretty big but compare to other fandoms they are so tiny or small in comparison. I have quite the handful of rare pairs in both smaller fandoms and even bigger ones too.
However those two rare pair are two characters that are bitter rivals and the other one is two characters that haven't even met each other yet. What's even funnier it's the same characters but from different adaptions.
Also Rare Pairs is why it’s important to leave lovely encouraging comments, likes, subscribe/follow those who make content for them- it can really make a difference and even sway some people to join! ^^

I was looking for fics of one of my ships and stumbled upon an author who wrote for said ship and had a fic of a rarepair. Got curious and clicked the ship tag for it. Lo and behold, a total of 20 or so fics for that pairing on AO3. Dug a lil deeper and I got OBSESSEDDDDDD with this one fic that was like 16k words??? Found some other hidden gems, even found fics of them written in my native lang., and yeah that was the moment I started seeing the appeal. I swear that 16k-word fic was what sold me IT WAS SOOOOO GOODDDDD 😭😭eh who knows, maybe one of these days I'll write a fake dating AU for them (their dynamic works well for a standard fake dating AU imo)
I ship two characters that are, I'm fairly certain, the only pair that haven't even met each other, or at least the only ones for each of them. literally every other main character (18 others) have met both of them i think, but these two haven't shared a word. I am fighting in the trenches for them, I can't do art so fanfics featuring them is the best I got
OH MY GOD there's a rarepair I really like, but my problem isn't that not a lot of people consider or perceive their potential. It's that one of the characters is so massively more popular than the other that they use the pairing I like as a past relationship, or as some sort of development for the popular character to then get shipped with someone else. Sometimes, fic writers put it in the tags and I seriously have to consider whether im desperate enough for "past character A/character B"

True rarepair hell is when at first it doesn't seem like it's that rare but soon enough you've read all the fanfics and liked all the fanart for the ship and it feels like an eternity before anything new is posted and half the time you're the only one still posting about it
There is literally only ONE fic with my rarepair on AO3, and it’s also an unfinished love triangle story with a big age gap!! 😖😖 I’m currently in the middle of writing a couple stories for said rarepair, though, so there’s hope…
I have this rare pair i really enjoy and honestly most of the fanfics i find with the ship often end with one of them cheating on the partner to let the other one explore a homosexual relationship? (Often times they make one homophobic because they prefer those characters in homosexual ships instead), if not that half of the things that are said here are told to me-
There was a pairing I shipped, though they barely interacted even if they were on the same team/group but there was one specific scene I found them very cute in. And surprisingly there were a few Ao3 pages for that ship. Not only that but some of them were pretty well written and made me like it more.

My first ever rarepair that still is my number one otp consists the protagonist and a side villain that was dealt with in just two episodes... And ever since then, even though in canon, that side villain is dead thanks to the protagonist, I find myself imagining them just being in love and just enjoying each other's company. I don't know how I ended up being obsessed with this ship but I'm still obsessed to it-

@@kiv9880 Ok so the rarepair is Iago x Izana from Fire Emblem Fates and the fic is called Solar Eclipse.
I found the rarepair fic because I happened to already be a fan of both characters (I have the Iago tag favorited, which is how I found the fic in the first place).
I never really considered Iago and Izana shipped together before this fic, they never interact in canon unless you optionally have them fight each other. But the fic does such a good job redeeming Iago (or as the fic describes it “dragged kicking and screaming through character development”) and I live for fics that redeem Iago
As for the ship itself, Izana x Iago have a light & dark aesthetic going on in their designs *and* in their personalities, (which is why the fic is called Solar Eclipse).
All pretty cool imo, someday I should write an Izana x Iago fic of my own so I can add onto this rarepair content!

Writers redeeming characters are one of my favorite things to read about, i adore seeing the way different people handle forgivness and personal evolutions it's just a great emotional time. Im glad this one did a great job doing this was the author description is so funny hdjsj the character development process does go like that a lot of times.
Also the fic name is so cute, as someone with a former astrology obcession a solar eclipse can be used as a deep symbolism with the oposite nature of the characters its just so nice to see this event being resignified.
I hope someday you write that fic about them, it sounds really fun to make up conections between the characters, also really potentally angsty, you have the full power of creative liberty yay!

I used to be in the Newsies fandom and there was this one ship I really liked. It was of two background characters that only had a couple lines in total and I decided to be one of the few people writing a fiction about them as a ship. So I can relate heavily to this.

I feel a lot of the same pain being in a fandom for a canceled movie. Honestly we're stupidly lucky to have as many clips of the half-finished animation as we do, but I still craved more so I went to ao3. Five fics. I'd make something myself but there's so little content that I don't even know if I'd be able to properly write the characters' personalities 😭
Exactly how I feel with Xreaders, which usually tend to get sh*t on but not so much so in the fandom Im in. Finding M!Readers x Underrated Character I enjoy is rare enough, but in a platonic way is even harder. I didn't think I'd ever write fanfiction or get invested this bad but man here I am doing so anyway. I just think the character is neat and deserves more appreciation
I swear there’s never male reader fan fiction. And if there is, it’s only ever from the perspective of the bottom in a mxm relationship. Like pleaseeee branch out a little
I got really attached to the couple from the drawfee randomly generated couples video from over a year ago. People still draw them sometimes but there are only 13 fics and 9 of them are ones I wrote and the most recent of the other fics is from January 2023. I'm gonna keep trucking tho bc at this point this is my fandom and I have to keep it afloat lol

My rarepair is between 2 characters who are supposed to be very close to each other according to their character descriptions but have literally never spoken to each other on screen. The whole ship is held together by one single sussy paragraph in one of the character's bio.
The community's pretty nice tho. Occasionally there will be an official art that has both of them them in one picture and all 8 of us would throw a party.
The thing is, most of the ships I like are normal but... I'm a multishipper so i like to sometimes merge my ships into poly ships. Anyway, that somehow resulted in me being the first to write a fanfiction for a rare pair that I pretty much created.

A friend of mine introduced me to the EXTREME RAIRPAIR that is Celeskuro or Celesturo (Celestia Ludenburg/Mukuro Ikusaba from DR THH.) And the whole concept of a goth lolita gambler girl who is obsessed with idea of living in a castle with vampire butlers at her every need, combined with a soldier posing as model sounds hella dope.
Like a secret bodygaurd/the one living her fantasies kinda thing.
You know how creative you could get with that? And yet there is BARELY any content of this ship.
Those two only exchanged glances once in the ENTIRE game and yet I'm obsessed.
OMG I remember thinking that they'd be kinda cute together when I first got into DR! I've since abandoned the ship though, it didn't click fully for the brainrot to start

I have a habit of getting in small fandoms and shipping rare ships, but one ship, there was only one fic, (the rest were platonic), and I read it, it was good, I bookmarked and everything, yesterday, looked for it, it’s “mystery content” now? I still can’t believe it.

I think I’ve found my own little corner of Rarepair Hell.
The rarepair you ship consists of two very minor characters… one of which is *(presumed)* dead… and you’re not super into hurt no comfort… and “(character) Lives” is not yet an official tag (somehow, despite the fact that they NEVER FOUND HIS BODY, AND IT HAS NEVER BEEN RELIABLY CONFIRMED THAT HE IS DEAD)… and only *two* of the fics that use this tag have your rarepair in it… and one has also got a tag you *hate.*
I will make this a more popular ship if it is the last thing I do. (I also plan to singlehandedly make fics where the character in question lives more popular if I must.)
Edit: LET’S GOOOO, MICHAEL YEW LIVES IS NOW A REAL TAG ON AO3! Now if I can just make this ship more popular… luckily, I’ve got a few things in the works.

I accidentally created a rarepair in my dreams. This happened the night before the release of Enchanting Grom Fright, and I, just like the rest of the Owl House fandom, was really excited. In my dream, I was watching the episode, and it's revealed that Luz's love interest isn't Amity, but actually a character we hadn't seen before. For some reason, I moved on really fast and started shipping Willow and Amity. Then I woke up and saw the actual episode. Don't get me wrong, I love Lumity and Huntlow, and I think it's better that they are canon. (Is Huntlow canon? I don't remember. I think it is?) But every once in a while, my mind wanders back to that accidental rarepair, and thinks "What if..."
Edit: After commenting this, I looked it up on ao3, and there are quite a few Amity/Willow fics (146 to be exact). Many of them actually ship them along with Luz. The more you know, I guess.
Recently I got into an actually popular fandom with an actually popular ship and it's so wild to open up the tag multiple times a day to new fics when I'm so used to getting nothing for months on end
My rarepair is from a huge fandom, but whenever i mention how cute they would be together everyone in the fandom attacks me because one of the characters in my rare pair has a love interest that everyone hard core ships her with
when there’s one or two scenes that make you ship them really hard but that’s literally all they have and ever will have together (my otps are like this and it hurts so bad)

I unironically started several ships in a certain small fandom (Shadows House), both rarepairs and medium ones. Nothing can't beat the feeling of you posting the first fanfic for a new ship

smth i find funny is how my favorite pairing got massively popular because of a few fics (slippery slopes to name one) and now surpasses not only the two canon ships for the characters (aleheather and nemma) in fics on ao3 but ALSO one of the other popular ships with a character (noco),,,, alenoah finally getting the attention it deserves

I think I’ve mentioned a few times now that I ship Joichiro Saiba/Nakamura Azami and it’s already bad enough that the food wars fandom is small but the series is over so most people have already moved onto other things… THEY HAVE SO MUCH CHEMISTRY AND THEY WOULD BE SUCH AN ANGSTY BUT CUTE COUPLE!!! I’m pretty much the only one posting fics about Azami in general, let alone Azami/Joichiro so if you do look the pair up on AO3 out of like 9 fics I’m pretty sure 5 of them are mine 😭😭 I won’t stop until I get new people on this ship‼️‼️🦅🦅
While I do ship some 'popular' ships, I do tend to hyperfixate on my plethora of rarepairs more! It doesn't help that most of the fandoms I'm in are older, meaning that the content that is there is all there is, which is usually rather lacking in the rarepair department. Some of the 'types' of rarepairs I love are 'married in canon but no one else cares', 'just barely missed meeting each other in canon but their personalities would have literally made them soulmates', and 'crossover couples that one RUclipsr edits'! 😅 I have plenty of headcanons and incomplete fics and homemade fanart to keep me satisfied with my personal rarepair content, though I do wish more people made content for my rarepairs!
Having a Rarepare in an obscure fandom is painfully hard to find content for, especially with underutilized characters.
Also, my brain has crafted a ship for Starling and Stork from Storm Hawks, but I can’t write a Fic to save a life.
Not making an promises, but I've just watched the first episode and I'm invested so far.
My rair pair is specifically a common ROMANTIC pair but a rare PLATONIC pair. I cant tell you the pain of trying to find platonic stuff for a commonly romantic ship 💀 (WX79 and Wormwood)

One of the rare-pairs I cooked up in my kooky brain is an Ot3 between two guys and one girl. Each of them in their little pairings together range from quite rare to fairly popular. I fallen so hard that I dragged some online mutuals into it too.💀I’m so sorry for any of them that happen to be watching. Also, it resulted in me gaining a Discord Server and a new online friendship of fanfic brain-rot with Rare-pairs for the Fandom I’m in. So in the end, it was worth it.
pov: you’re a consumer. you can’t draw art and you can’t write fics. your headcanons are not community-sharing worthy. your rairpare ideas can only stand as a tall pillar in your mind for however long you live.
its an f/f/f poly pairing in a fandom that's already hard to filter for because it's basically a fandom inside of a fandom. there are only two even remotely relevant f/f pairings in the entire fandom and i have mashed them together. help
