    Im a junior player and i used to play with the eastern for like 7-8 years but when i changed to a smi-western my forhand got way better cause it made me touch the ball more in front and i got more spin and power, and i must say at first i did miss the flat balls that i usually would get with an eastern grip but the pressure that the smi has is better in the game - this was my personal experience

    I think you also have to look at who you are playing against and on what surface. I use a semi-western grip, and I notice that it works great outdoors and on slower, heavier courts. But in our area we play indoors in the winter on cold, smooth hard courts and some opponents really take advantage of the conditions to play a lot of slice and flatter balls. Many of their balls stay below waist level in these conditions and the semi-western starts to feel like a lot more work.

    • @Playyourcourt
      @Playyourcourt  3 года назад

      Definitely agree! The strengths of the western grips are highlighted on softer, slower courts such as clay. Tough to beat a really good eastern grip on a fast hard court. ie: Fed. Thanks for the feedback and for watching!

    Can we change the grip depending on the ball that comes up? exemple: shot balls using eartern, and defensive balls, when I need a lot of spin, change to semi-western?

    Great video Guys! @ Scott, could you do a video om how you hit your eastern forehand? ( grip, swingpath, contact point, ready positon ect) There is not a lot of content out there on this subject.
    Stay save and merry holidays!

    Oh wow, Right when I’m considering changing to a full semi western forehand from an modified eastern..I think my swing suits a semi more than modified

    • @Playyourcourt
      @Playyourcourt  3 года назад

      We'd certainly suggest the semi-western over the full western but it really comes down to personal preference. Best of luck with the change!

      @@Playyourcourt any videos on eastern forehand and maybe hitting flat forehand etc?

  • @pedrogdiniz
    @pedrogdiniz 3 года назад +1

    You say the semi-western is hard to transition to the backhand side, but I hit a node hand backhand whit the same grip, I only use 2 grips the semi-western and the continental for slice, volleys and serve.

    • @Playyourcourt
      @Playyourcourt  3 года назад

      Hi Pedro, some players with a more extreme eastern backhand grip have the ability to use it on the forehand as well so there's no grip change required. Most players who use a standard eastern backhand grip have a fair ways to go changing from the semi-western. Thanks for the feedback and for watching!

    I have a problem on my right, and it is that I cannot separate myself from the ball, I know what the problem is but not how to solve it, I run out of space and my body is very close to the ball, in training a little better, but in when I am in a game and there is more speed, it is when I can not separate, with which I impact badly and also I can not give any direction, any exercise or video or advice that helps me please

    Which grip is the most arm-friendly if you're worried about injuries?

    • @Playyourcourt
      @Playyourcourt  3 года назад +2

      Hi Aaron, we would suggest a continental or eastern grip if the primary concern is arm trouble. The semi-western if ill timed on the forehand can be tough on the arm. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!

    What about between a Semi western and western forehand grip? I’ve recently changed to this grip and as long as I swing harder and follow through higher it has more kick. I played D2 in college, although I’m not as consistent as I want to be

    • @Playyourcourt
      @Playyourcourt  2 года назад

      There's a lot of variations to the western forehand grips. as long as it's comfortable you should be good to go!

    • @Playyourcourt
      @Playyourcourt  3 года назад +1

      Hey Richard, good to hear from you. I loved the Pure Strike but I was won over by the Wilson Blade v7. The flex point was a bit more forgiving on the arm but it didn't sacrifice pop or spin. We are also partnering with Wilson now hence the outfit change. 😉
