  • The NAC 42-5 was introduced in 1985 to replace the original NAC 42 as Naim's entry-level preamp. It remained in production until the NAC 62 arrived in 1988. I paid £270 for this unit which was then sent to Class A for a service.
The NAP 110 was introduced in 1979 to replace the bolt down NAP 120 as Naim's entry-level power amplifier. It remained in production until the NAP 140 arrived in 1986. Power output was rated at 40W per channel into 8 Ohms. I bought this serviced unit from Class A for £400.
1992-spec Sondek plus Linn Adikt MM cartridge - built by Colin at What You See and Hear.
Lingo and amps serviced by Class A.

I remember back in 1986, listening to a Linn LP12/Naim amps and Isobariks setup and hearing for the first time, that bottle smashing, just after the cat's meow.
It was so clear, yet I'd never even heard it on the recording before.

Thanks for sharing your experiences back in the day. Would love to go back in time and hear that setup.

@charlescheese3828 The next record we listened to was Tears For Fear, Songs From The Big Chair album, track 2, "The Working Hour". You could actually hear the fabric of the pads of William Gregory's E-Flat Alto saxophone slightly sticking to their sockets and causing a momentary husky grunt as he played the solo intro.

Perfect, like going back in time! I had a friend with this exact combo, I had the 32-5, HiCap and 250 into Sara 9s... Superb sound.

Thanks - I bought the 110 from Class A. To be fair, that was the going rate at that time.

Is it cirkus or pré-cirkus ?
    Thanks for reply...

Black liner bearing which came out in '87 so pre-Cirkus. The earlier white liner bearing also sounds good with Kans of course.

I have tried just about everything out there (british hifi) and only the Linn/Naim sound works for me. It just sounds right.

Linn Kans...the speaker that somehow manages to sounds OK with zero bass capability. (that's a compiment!)

Yeah, I know what you mean and this pair has the later KEF unit with even less bass.
