  • Watch our cake decorators sculpt a mountain of cake into a whimsical & edible unicorn! Horses, and specifically unicorns, are really hard to sculpt, or draw, or depict in general. We couldn't be happier with how this unicorn cake turned out, though!
    And... our cake decorator Krystle has some input on what makes for a good unicorn.

    Wow this was a tricky cake! Horses, I mean unicorns are very hard to draw and sculpt. But learning is part of the process! Probably would have used some Krispy to beef up the front legs if I had to do it over, but overall we're super happy with it, and the customer LOVED it!

    Beautiful!
    So, uni mean 1, and cornu is Latin for horn. That’s why the corn instead of horn in the name. I double checked with Google, but I learned this from my favorite movie as a kid, The Last Unicorn 😍

    Hi, can you tell me what exactly did you use to hold the head up

      Hi, at 1:50 there is a visual of the structure we created. It's an iron pipe connected to the wooden base and to the masonite 'chin' with an iron flange screwed on each end. We then glued cardboard to the wood and wrapped the pipe in tape and plastic to be food safe.

    Did you eat that

      Everything we make is for real clients, so yes, it was eaten. We put arguably even more effort into the way the cakes taste, and we would be heartbroken if it hadn't been.

    Can you please tell me what you used for the structure the cake went on? My daughter wants me to replicate this for her birthday 😩😂

      Hi. The base is a 1/2" plywood that we then screwed in a pipe via flanges on either side with a oblong shaped masonite board screwed into the top flange to support the weight of the head. Then inside the cake is the usual layering of cardboard and boba tea straws for support. Just glue down a piece of cardboard so that the cake doesn't touch wood directly.

      Yeah, you may be right. I think below the knee more so than above. Though from the pictures we used they're a whole lot longer (and funny looking) than you'd expect. Thanks for watching!

    Plz share cutting template also

    • @OakleafCakesBakeShop
      @OakleafCakesBakeShop  3 года назад

      Since this cake was sized to the customer specifications we do not have a template to share. If you're making this cake at home I would suggest that you buy a couple horse and unicorn toys and figurines to use as 3D model reference for sculpting your cake. Happy baking!

    did you have any template for the body

    • @OakleafCakesBakeShop
      @OakleafCakesBakeShop  4 года назад

      Hi, no template. That is the hardest thing about sculpted cakes. Sometimes if they are small enough you can print a template on your home printer. Otherwise, we find it helpful to print many photos from diff angles, or even buy a 3D model or a toy to work from, which was extremely helpful.
