I just set up one of these machines, purchased it based on what I saw in this review. It seems that the extruder steps have been corrected, and the fan speed is controllable out of the box! Seems like Kingroon is listening to feedback, and this thing is definitely a candidate for filling out a print farm at a reasonable price.
I appreciate and respect reprinting the same objects like the infinity cube, number puzzle, mesh crate, etc. for every printer. It is a very smart way to test basic tolerances and print quality amongst other things. Keep doing these awesome, well-rounded, and well-informed reviews!
I love that you print the same part using different parameters. I also appreciate your calm, soft demeanor in discussing the printers. To many reviewers use way to much theatrics and effects that at first are cool, but get annoying fast. Lastly, you convey trust and honesty, with no clandestine profit motives. These points really are not specific to todays KP3S review only, but are overlying observations in all your videos. Thanks Aurora Tech!
A few other 'reviewers' could do with using your style, good straight to the point information. Others have fast talking flashy graphics, never sure if it is true or another infomercial. I already have the printers that I am happy with, one Bambu close to 2000 print hours now, but I still come back to this channel to see what is out there and see what bloopers are on the end. Great channel, thank you both.
Thanks for this review, I got this printer at 150 and I love it, it had some minor issues but the quality and the speed worth it, thanks again for doing this kind of content.
Excellent review and very useful detailing the minor bug fixes, thank you! I have three KP3S, a KP3S PRO S1 and now the KP3S PRO V2. Kingroon make wonderful compact little printers - but out of the box you've got to be prepared to fix some minor niggles and generally just "tune it" Once you've done that they're excellent little machines :-)
Another great review. I considered getting this or the kp1l a while back but held off once I started to see negative feedback online. So I decided to get the sv06 and sv06 plus instead and I am happy I did. The print quality was very good compared to my anycubic kobra and the sv06 line can easily be converted to klipper. I have a pi3b and a sonic pad so will migrate them soon to klipper. It is a shame kingroon made so many mistakes trying to rush these klipper printers to market. They should have taken their time and just did it right. They lost all the momentum they had with the kp3s line by doing that. It will now take a while for consumers to build confidence again so the money they expected to gain by coming to market so quickly ended up losing them way more in the long run.
Once again a perfect review, thanks as always Aurora! Over time and the more I get comfortable with 3d printing the main thing I look for in these products is just the components and features included for the price. You simply get better value on some printers as complete products than you would building from scratch even if you ultimately end up doing your own thing with those parts eventually. This Kingroon from what I can tell is just an ideal little package of components if you're looking for a high quality mini bed slinger with kilpper. Thanks for doing the trouble shooting for us in advance. Ordered one today and excited to try kilpper for the first time!
respect the honesty and consistent pacing with each review. your team pulls not punches on ANY brand. i never realized how many quality of life features i left on the table in search of a good deal. thank you
Glad to see more results after some tuning, helps understand if the hardware or software are the problem. The orcaslicer max flow test would a nice inclusion as well.
Thanks for posting your profile below. Comprehensive review and good to see tuning steps taken to address print quality issue. The fan behaviour and duct doesn't speak highly for Kingroon's QA. The KLP1 hasn't been well received either, not a good run for Kingroon recently.
good job especially finding and fixing some of the issues. I print PLA at 213 are you hotter for a reason. The drier proved its value, My print lab is in my basement. I have a dehumidifier but PC is awful every time. I like linear rails Direct Drive even smaller is ok for small parts but as a retired engineer the cantilevered X axis feels weird to me. $230 Klipper Printer but low temp Hot End reduced the strong filaments. Good review and always educational for us too. Thank You, Dennis
Looks like the only decent sub 100 dollar mini (they go on sale several times per year) is the Ender 2 Pro - Please do a review on these. My Kingroon is only good as a rough draft type printer - it does not make nice prints. Even my Ender 2 (non-pro) prints better. The Kingroon PLA filament is okay though.
The high speed fan can still work - you need to run them at a MUCH higher pwm frequency. I have high speed part cooling fans -- they're commonly used in servers, and the PWM used there is 30-40khz, not the default 100hz used by killper and other firmwares. If you adjust the PWM frequency, these high speed fans can run at lower RPM -- i can generally get them down to 5% speed even.
@karurochari3769 I'm saying it works for me with similar high speed fans, it is very likely the board in this machine is simply unable to generate 40khz pwm, or fans used vary by target frequency. Some are 10khz fans, those tend to be cheaper fans. I'm just saying that high rpm fans can work, they just need more tuning.
You always get me with the Sunlu promotion. You keep saying they have TPU but I've checked repeatedly and they never have it in stock. 😞 It's good to see more 3D printers, including lower cost bed slingers, now shipping with Klipper. Kudos to Kingroon for using the full version of Klipper instead of crippling it as Creality did on the K1 series. Klipper and Fluidd means I can tolerate the budget tiny LCD and clicky knob interface because I'll generally control the printer from my computer. Kudos to Kingroon for having WiFi on their low cost Klipper machine (unlike Elegoo with their Neptune 4 and 4 Pro). 4:50 - That's a very flat looking bed calibration. I'm not a fan of these cantilevered X axis machines but this looks very good! The beefy linear rails look impressive. 20:50 - I wish all manufacturers would make good profiles for popular slicers instead of re-skinning a slicer to be proprietary to their one printer, and I wish they'd get those profiles correct instead of Aurora Tech or another RUclips technical 3D printer reviewer being forced to fix their config files and slicer profiles to make their printers work properly. Kingroon got a lot right in this 3D printer. Apparently the extruder is solid (unlike Creality's first attempt on the K1), not withstanding shipping a review printer with 25% over extrusion. If Kingroon fixes the extrusion calibration, fixes the fan so it works at all speeds, and does a bit better job with hardware issues such as the fan duct and fasteners, this could be a nice little printer.
It'll be great once 3D printing quality standards and customer support get better in USA at least. I've bought 5 Kingroons and I want to love them, but always issues with little response. If you are prepared to do the work and have some experience or willingness to learn, they can be great printers, but from experience are not ready to go with much reliability out of the box.
Oh wow, thanks a lot for this very detailed reviews. I am torn between Creality Ender 2 Pro or this one for a "small" sized printer, and this one's printing speed got me interested in it. Then I saw the initial test benchy and thought of it in negative light. Then the extruder settings fix made this printer seemed much more promising (at least in its technical capability). I do feel that Kingroon should really consider polishing their products though, since most users would just equate "bad prints = bad product"
Kingroon seems to still be the same. No quality control. Decent hardware slapped together. I have 2 kp5L and a kp3s. All where great after setting up. Ran well for about 1000 hours. Then the low buck parts just started failing left and right. One of the three where always broken waiting for parts. I couldn’t recommend these printers anymore especially with the soval sv06 series out.
Very interesting machine. Wish they had these back when I got first Ender3! I’m so excited for the future of printing just seeing the evolution in the past couple of years (-8 I hope you all are having fun making these videos because I sure enjoy watching them
Kingroon are sooooo close to being great. Such a shame they drop the ball on simple things. I wonder if they even have any beta testers. I used to be a tinkerer and happy to swap bits, fix bits, tweak firmware, etc, but that was 6 years ago. Now I just expect a printer to work out of the box because many do. Hopefully a review will surface somewhere in a month or two with a revised unit.
Great review as always. I have a soft spot for kingroon, I absolutely love my KP3S. Do you do flow tests for the filament before you do the test prints? Slightly over extruding will kill the tolerances on the infinity cube prints
I was going to say the same thing. It's such a strange time for 3d printers... Budget and the best are so close in price and the market is oversaturated with non innovation.
@@MrDaneis I was also looking at fully enclosed units before getting a Neptune 4, but in terms of out-of-box experience without pegging the budget to the $1000 line, it's really hard to beat these 'bed slingers'. Neptune 3, the 4 and even some Sovol units, the Anycubic Kobras, etc. all seem to be solid units for people who want a solid 3D printer that Just Works (tm). That this is possible for a mere ~$300 is amazing indeed.
With all the other problems you found on this printer. I think it is possible that the fan may be wired wrong. If the speed control wire and the positive wire are backward. It could cause the problem you are having.
Great vid, but how did you tune/calibrate the extruder for better printing quality (like you mentioned at 18:00 mark of your video) ? I could not find the option to do this on my same printer.
Another great review. If they fix the issue you have pointed out this could be a good machine. They may need to increase the price a little to provide a quality machine. People are after quality not something slapped together to rush to market. Quality, a resemble speed increase and long term use are the major things customers expect from new machine's. As a model maker that's looking to purchase several new machines, it's these features that need to be offered before money is parted with.
New to 3D printing! You've mentioned glue. Would you be able to do a video on this subject? Different beds, when to use, type of glues, bed cleaners? Thanks
I have tried nearly every glue stick and so-called "professional" 3D printing adhesive, some of which cost $25 or even more. However, none of them have performed as effectively as Elmer's Craft Bond Extra Strength Glue Stick, which only costs $3.25 for a 0.88 oz stick. When it comes to bed cleaning, simply using warm soap water and a brush is sufficient. Always out of stock on Amazon: amzn.to/3qDsDJW Also check your local Walmart.
Any chance on seeing a review on the Ender 3 V3 anytime soon? Not a whole lot of info on the printer out there as of yet and I love how detailed your reviews are!
For fast printing only. I have heat creep issues, the hotend fan is quite weak and the cooling fins aren't designed well. The whole assembly is machined out of 1 part, it gets too warm, making PLA soften on the way to the hotend when printing slow/medium speed. Result is stringing/clogging. Not a good printer for miniatures. (EDIT the heatbreak design was changed in the latest versions, using a much thinner heatbreak now - so this might be fixed now)
Great review, and I have to say... this machine is "peak Kingroon," lol. I've owned four of their machines, and they're each about 90% finished with the last 10% being total QA failures. Bugs in the firmware, misaligned limit sensors/gantry, missing parts, bad rates, defective fans... I get that they're dirt cheap, but it would have taken an additional day or two for their QA people to report all of these bugs and have them fixed before shipping. For experts like us they're a cheap way of adding capabilities to our makerspaces, but I think anyone new to the hobby is going to have a bad time.
I'm facing an issue with kp3s pro just right away on my second print. filament does not stick in the center anymore. but the preparation line before printing stick will at the corner. leveling as recommended and heating are working well. any advice
Could you have a look at the P1S by Bambu lab? I feel the value there is even with the AMS. I've had mine with the AMS for a week now and it has not disappointed. Keep up the great work!
please note that they dont release the klipper build they use. the community and i have issues with the firmware not working. nozzle is hard to replace because of no way to hold the heat block. Stock firmware also makes it impossible to allow the part cooling fan to work when using less than 100% but is possible to edit the config to allow it to work. replacement boards for problems after trying to update it with their guides are slow. many issues when looking at the fb community
I have the same issues. Potentially great machines and I want to like these printers, time after time, but they have no concept of quality control and customer service
The nozzle looks like a V6, did a company finally make use of a standard v6 nozzle or is it another specialty v6/volcano variant that will make nozzle purchasing a pain?
Nah, i'm done with kingroon. They totally did not fix the k5 series and just left the auto leveling upgrade broken with no updates for more than a year. I didn't bother upgrading my K3 printer. I Got so frustrated with them that I threw all my Kingroon printers and replaced them with Sovol.
Considering a firesale on my small farm of Kingroons as well. I REALLY wanted to love these things. So much potential but nothing but issues and lack of support
@@StarBellySneetch I have a feeling that the company knows how to assemble them together like a kid assembling a desktop PC, but they don't know how to fix software problems. What really made me mad is when i read that they were going to focus on their new K3PS printer and didn't respond to help on the forums. This means they will totally ignore everything and leave us hanging so they can devote their efforts on the new product.
To speed up every printer nowadays is a worse trend. Cleaner and accurate prints with slitghtly faster movements than the old Standard were the better goal for manufacturers.
As others have stated and I've always stated just another great video. Thank you. Man. Do I have a question for you, when you printed the entire bed in one sheet, why is it so perfect? For the life of me I can no longer achieve that on the outside corners of my print. What am I setting up wrong? It's always perfect or too far in the center and way too close on the outside of my print. Any thoughts would be really helpful. Thank you as always!
I truly feel it has something to do with my probe area or my probing margins. If there is a proper forum I can send you a picture of what I'm talking about I would love to take this conversation there.
Why do reviewers insist on using marble/filled filament when showing quality on test prints? When I print something, I want to hide defects, when I look at a printer review I want to see them
@@Denniss7420 but this is faster right? Any other reason? I'm going to put klipper on the Ender anyway. In Australia, it's the same price ($10 cheaper for ender)
@@timg2382 Kingroon just takes too many shortcuts and they rate really low on the chart of 3d printers. Elegoo Neptune, Sovol, Creality are a better choice. This channel has a review on the Elegoo Neptune 3 and calls it the King of the $200 3D printers.
PS- I noticed you accidentally said the part cooling fan is 45k rpm and you ended two sentences with the word “one” (“the power supply is a 300 watt one”) LOL I think I only noticed because I’m used to your style and top tier scripts
Yes, it was printed with 25% over extrusion due to incorrect parameters with the stock Klipper firmware. Surprisingly, some prints weren't affected as much.
Yes, it has some issues - not that big of a deal for experienced users - but for the price of $229, it's still an amazing deal. If Kingroon fixes all those minor issues and includes a new part fan with all printers, this could actually become a pretty solid machine.
It's not perfect in terms of the first layer; it's just average. I wouldn't expect it to print like a Prusa MK4. Priced at $229 and equipped with all linear rails, it's still pretty good.
@@AuroraTech A mk4 uses a load cell for mesh bed leveling so yeah you are correct. An induction probe can do a better job than this as we all have seen all these years from Prusa's mk3. That's all I'm saying.
Yeah.....no. With the Elegoo Neptune 4 series out for the same money, this looks like a 2014 printer with cables hanging everywhere that I'd rather buy that product vs this......thing.
Hello Aurora, could you please tell me the lenght of all linear rail axis? I was thinking of buying it to mod it by using one of the Y axes in Z, but if they have different lengths, it won't work.
I don't really like these, I owned a crux 1 and it's basically the same minus some small things. It's good but it's not worth $200 USD at all. Maybe $120-$150. You can definitely get way better for cheaper now.
I just set up one of these machines, purchased it based on what I saw in this review. It seems that the extruder steps have been corrected, and the fan speed is controllable out of the box! Hopefully Neptune 4 review will come soon.
Could you have a look at the P1S by Bambu lab? I feel the value there is even with the AMS. I've had mine with the AMS for a week now and it has not disappointed. Keep up the great work!
It's in my garage; I still don't have time to open it yet. I will release a review video for the P1S in October.
Hi I wonder where can I find that fan duct design?
please note that they dont release the klipper build they use. the community and i have issues with the firmware not working. nozzle is hard to replace because of no way to hold the heat block.
8:50 is the cantilever arm shaking there? Can't tell
3:05 what is the model of this Sunlu filament dryer? I followed the link in the description, but couldn't find it on their site.
It's currently a prototype; they plan to release the machine in September.
@@AuroraTechHa! I look forward to your review.
The nozzle looks like a V6, did a company finally make use of a standard v6 nozzle or is it another specialty v6/volcano variant that will make nozzle purchasing a pain?
@18:34 Notice that the cover protecting the limits on the left gets hit by the extruder/hotend. Sloppy design or assembly from Kingroon.
@@StarBellySneetch
I have a feeling that the company knows how to assemble them together like a kid assembling a desktop PC, but they don't know how to fix software problems.
What really made me mad is when i read that they were going to focus on their new K3PS printer and didn't respond to help on the forums. This means they will totally ignore everything and leave us hanging so they can devote their efforts on the new product.
I just got this printer and when I go to hook up to Wi-Fi I put the usb drive in and the only thing it has on it is ip text folder that’s it no wpa
I like the aspect of a budget fast printer but the cons (especially the fan and it working only at 100%) i think Id rather build a rook printer.
Hi, interesting machine for price.
Can I ask you about SUNLU dryer?
Is possible to buy it?
Thanks.
Not yet, but they will be launching the dryer in September.
Great review!
Excellent review!
Between this and ender 3 v3 se ,what do u recommend. The prices difference is 30$
BambuLab A1 Mini. Please visit my recommendation list at auroratechchannel.com
Super video, thanks
Why do reviewers insist on using marble/filled filament when showing quality on test prints?
When I print something, I want to hide defects, when I look at a printer review I want to see them
Nice reviews
Great review
Should I buy this or the ender 3 V3 se?
Ender
@@Denniss7420 but this is faster right? Any other reason? I'm going to put klipper on the Ender anyway. In Australia, it's the same price ($10 cheaper for ender)
@@timg2382 Kingroon just takes too many shortcuts and they rate really low on the chart of 3d printers. Elegoo Neptune, Sovol, Creality are a better choice. This channel has a review on the Elegoo Neptune 3 and calls it the King of the $200 3D printers.
Hate to admit it, but Ender
Today at G4
PS- I noticed you accidentally said the part cooling fan is 45k rpm and you ended two sentences with the word “one” (“the power supply is a 300 watt one”)
LOL I think I only noticed because I’m used to your style and top tier scripts
Sv06 or kp3s pro v2?
I would pick BambuLab A1 Mini.

The pla from them is great, 10kg for 120usd
But the 3d printers are not that appealing
That benchy 😂
Yes, it was printed with 25% over extrusion due to incorrect parameters with the stock Klipper firmware. Surprisingly, some prints weren't affected as much.
@@AuroraTech I just got to the part of the video with the second benchy, it was much better 👍
When she talked about cons of this printer, I literally facepalmed myself😂🤦
Yes, it has some issues - not that big of a deal for experienced users - but for the price of $229, it's still an amazing deal. If Kingroon fixes all those minor issues and includes a new part fan with all printers, this could actually become a pretty solid machine.
Every printer has flaws lol
the fan is not a minor issue , they basically installed a non-pwm blower, which is kind of nuts
@@alex59292 And Kingroons have Multiple flaws! Creality or Sovol would be a better choice.
@@AuroraTech the days of poor out of the box issues are past
10:59 same as me
👍🏻👍🏻
👍🖒👍@Aurora
The first layer is obviously not perfect!
On the right side it is too low.
So the mesh bed leveling is not working correctly.
That's all I'm saying.
if you buy kingroon printer, you'll get different quality each time lol
Yeah.....no. With the Elegoo Neptune 4 series out for the same money, this looks like a 2014 printer with cables hanging everywhere that I'd rather buy that product vs this......thing.
Hello Aurora, could you please tell me the lenght of all linear rail axis?
I was thinking of buying it to mod it by using one of the Y axes in Z, but if they have different lengths, it won't work.
It has linear rails on all x,y and z axis, you don’t have to mod it.
@@AuroraTech I know, but it's fun!
I don't really like these, I owned a crux 1 and it's basically the same minus some small things. It's good but it's not worth $200 USD at all. Maybe $120-$150.
You can definitely get way better for cheaper now.
Hi can you help me please
Mt. Rushmore? :( Mt. Colonization-And-Land-Theft, I'm afraid.
Long Live The Six Grandfathers tho.
Pleased to be here all the same...
Dont buy this printer,it has many many other problems than you can think
Boring, it can’t do Nylon, so I don’t care. PLA is for prototyping. PA11&12 are for making.
