    If you look at the roll pin on the aftermarket distributors, on one side of the gear the pin hole is directly above a gear tooth. If you look at the other side of the gear you will see the pin hole is between the gear teeth. Rotating the gear 180 degrees corrects the phasing of the shaft and allows everything to line up. Apparently it is a crap shoot when you buy an aftermarket distributor as to which way the gear is installed.

    Distributed shaft slip on a points distributor will cause large points gap differences at different rpm’s I was 550 miles away when it happened to me drove it home on the sweet spot which was 50 mph before I figured it out it was a long day

    Dex I just want to say this because I recently worked in a factory making capacitors but every thing I mean everything is out sourced theses days nothing is 100% made in house anymore and my factory had military contractors and made medical equipment sometimes all that to say all your paying for with more expensive items is quality control are parts where made right here in America that was are stick but what it really means is it’s assembly in America with American standards of quality control and it’s been this way since the 80’s at least all this to say the cheap and expensive parts share a lot of the same parts and what makes one more expensive and better is that quality control and making sure the more expensive items are actually to spec not just assembled

      No shut. Let me guess larger caps that's been a thing. Even fords and Chevy's are made in China then assembled here. How is that possibly cheaper?

So. I was wondering about the distributor that is also new, the things you just showed are exactly what I've seen , but I dident understand why, now you just hit the nail on the head , I was getting it ready today, tomarow everything will change, and I'll be shure to let you know if my jeep still does 4.0 wheelies 😅 oh yeah.

    Hey Dex, is there a way to message you and get in contact or is it by phone call only? I have a 97 XJ that was built in February of 97. It has manual windows and locks. I've been searching years trying to find 2 good replacement front door panels because mine doesn't have the foam arm rests. My Jeep didn't have them when I,bout it 5 years ago and it's always drove me insane because I wanted to fix it.
    I'd like to be able and send you a picture of my panels for color comparison. I think it's Ash Gray possibly?? I live in East TN and wish I was closer to be able to just stop by your shop with my Jeep and see if you had any good front panels for sale. I can send you a picture, but I don't have the contact information to do so.
    Thanks and Take Care!

    • @manfredolson6889
      @manfredolson6889 Месяц назад +3

      If you look at the gear, the roll pin hole is in a valley on one side and a ridge on the other. So, basically it’s either right on or a half tooth off depending on it being installed correctly or incorrectly. I put a new distributor in my Jeep and it started throwing misfire codes for every cylinder. I pretty much started pulling my hair out. But consulted the forum people and one of them said it may come from the store installed wrong. And it was.

    • @thisisyourcaptainspeaking2259
      @thisisyourcaptainspeaking2259 Месяц назад +1

      Yeah, the roll pin hole lands between gear teeth on one side and in the middle of a tooth on the other side. Actually, most distributors I've disassembled are this way and in some cases it matters. The reason I've had to replace the gear most of the time is because the cam might be billet or cast iron and the gear material isn't compatible, thus needs to be changed.

    Hey Dex I really like this video what you're doing, however do you know, are you aware, that you're only showing one type of distributor which doesn't fit in my 4.0? Apparently you chose the late model engines to do this video on, because my 1988 4.0 has no distributor like what you're showing. It has those things that you cut off, but whatever that little black plastic pieces that you put inside the distributor with the wires hanging off of it, mine doesn't have any of that, my wires go in through the bottom of the distributor, are you aware of this?
    Okay it doesn't actually matter too much if you just do whatever, so I just want to say this for all those out there that might have the same motor without that very distributor that you're trying to show. Because there are two types of Distributors obviously at this point, and they do not have the same features at all. Even though there's a still the same distributor. Okay peace

    You're supposed to stick something in those alignment holes to keep the rotor from moving as you drop the distributor in. The aftermarket distributors should come with something to lock the 4.0 or 2.5 position in, and it's even recommended to cut one of the ears of the tab off, nothing new.
    This new caveman fad about rotating the distributor gear is ridiculous lol. RUclips is doing it all wrong, I never seen so many missing steps 😬.
