Apparently jb conversions makes a planetary gear kit that can make the 231 stronger.there’s a wider chain kit available too that is apparently stronger. This seems like a good way to beef it up. The only way to add more gearing though is a rubicrawler which I think only bolts to the 42le.
Nice job putting this together. Editing all of this is definitely a ton of work. Whenever I take a tcase apart I order a new pump and filter. They're so cheap and usually full of crap that its worth it. A new chain isnt a bad idea since they can stretch overtime. Especially considering your tcase came from send it jimmy with a xj on baldass 33s. Keep up the good work.
Definitely, I thought about just getting a new pump as I was putting it back together, just decided to run it. And is send it jimmy a real person and you know where my Jeep came from, or just a generic term for the friend everyone has, lol.
Man i really loves those tools and i like the little features of them,And best part is that they're pretty affordable perfect since im a sophmore in my automotive class and good thing i already got my impact since i was like 11 and a bunch of ther goodies but im happy that i found a really good brand of tools to buy later :D

Great video Kelly!!! I love the look of 40’s but from a 35 (my rig) to a 40 it seems like a long way in the amount of work....lol!!! I have also not gotten to trails that have left me wanting more from my rig which I guess is a good thing....lol!!!
I did the supershort 231 as well about 2 yrs ago on my 02 TJ. My biggest complaint is the transfer case chain they gave me. started out tight. After about 4 months i noticed some clunking going into gear then reverse. I have a very built up R32 3 spd automatic pushing 5:13s and 35" tires. Like everything else i am assuming that crappy chain came from china without knowing. I regret tossing my oem drive chain because i'd go the the hassle and put it back in in a second. I was thinking it was slop in my difs, but nope you can rotate the driveshaft and hear it click or clank or whatever the sound is it makes when the two pieced decide to spin together.
Good video. Just ordered mine for my 231j and noticed while reading instructions it talks about needle bearings may need to be pressed out and noticed you did not have to is that only some years?
Hello i wanted to ask you, did you recalibrate the speedometer? I saw in some forums there is a way to do it with a signal convertor, hope you can shed some light on this thank you. Also worth to mention iv found that tesa tape is the best electrical tape you can use, it doesn’t get all brittle or sticky like regular electrical tape.
What is the part number for that wiring harness? I ended up with a JB Conversions super short sye on trade and will be putting it in my 95 YJ. Great video!
I'm sure it's there somewhere but I didn't see the link in the description for wiring kit. Can you send the link and part number to the speedo wiring harness?
I have an 89 YJ Wrangler and I’d love to do this setup and get as much driveshaft length as I can. I’m just starting on upgrades but this need to be the next one as I’ve already got a bit of a vibration after installing a 3” lift replacing the 33 year old original suspension! I have the mechanical speedometer cable, can I convert my speedo to an electronic one?
Thanks man👊🏻 Define better.. lol. The 231 is a great tcase, the Dana 20 is definitely smaller and stronger. But when I go to upgrade in my TJ I will doing a Dana 300 or atlas. They don’t make a low enough gear set for the Dana 20 for my liking.
To be honest I haven’t looked into that. I am assuming it will work but still be off as it was before. My speedo has almost never been right. I am always changing tires or gears or something that effects it, so I gave up years ago, lol.
was wondering what kind of shaft you bought for the rear on the Adams website? Did you get the rubicon 1350 rear drive shaft for the flange or did you have to reach out to Adam's for the custom shaft for your SYE? Appreciate the video 🙏
Good video, have to admit back when I was broke broke and wanted to do some wheeling I did a hack and tap. It works great. If you dont mind what is the overall length on the tcase after the sye? And total length of driveshaft? I'm trying to install a doubler and want the super short sye so I can still have a decent driveshaft angle
Cool vid. I have a question for you. The 231 on my 98 XJ is leaking from the front seal. Does it require complete disassembly of the t-case to replace?
From my understanding you would have to get a electronic speedo control box. I haven’t looked into it because I don’t drive it on the street. It works but how accurate is it, I don’t know.
It does not have a snap ring. I guess when you tighten the yoke it was tightens it on the main shaft. I had to read the directions a few times on that one as well.
I’ll probably have to call teraflex to find out if they do the 1350 flange It seems these are the only company that sells direct. I was just trying to find out if there may be a third party that may sell for this brand. Thanks
@@aaronthompson9771 cool thanks, that is what i thought. unfortunately i used black rtv when i did both my axle builds :( i will have to try that next time. hopefully i dont have a leak
Yea, now that you mention it, gasket maker would be better for sure. If I cleaned up the aluminum really good, which I didn’t, lol. I have a ton of gasket maker sitting around too, dang.
Hey. I've been trying to find the JB slip yoke Eliminator kit with the 1350 flange. If you have time could you send me a link. I'm working on a 2000 TJ with 6-inch Lift
I just installed a sye on my tj a month ago and it made me laugh hearing I wasnt the only one who had an absolute pain getting the old yoke off
Highly recommend Adams drive shaft!! Great customer service! Always willing to help and answer questions! Great driveshaft!
I've had the same one on my 2000 TJ since 2004. No problems at all
Nice, good to hear🤟🏻

Great Video I Love my Adams Driveshafts. That is a cool kit to make the driveshaft longer.
That looks like a nice and beefy sye kit.....
the hack and tap held up for 10 years, dont knock it too hard lol
True, lol.
I'd actually like to see some good how-to's on the hack-n-tap

I have not recalibrated the Speedo, I have looked into the signal converters and they are to expensive for a vehicle that sees almost no street time.
I still have no speedo since installing the SYE.
Where did you buy the flange?
What is the part number for that wiring harness? I ended up with a JB Conversions super short sye on trade and will be putting it in my 95 YJ. Great video!
It is in the installation instructions on jb conversions website. But it is a Chrysler connector kit 5014007AA. Got it on eBay for $20
Thanks!
I would imagine this same sye will work for an 2000 xj, correct?
Anything with a np231j, should work

I believe You can buy a module that converts the signal but I think they are pretty expensive
Another home run, Kelly! Is the 231 better than a Dana 20?

Good video. You going to do a video on calibrating the speedo with the tone sensor? I assume youre using a dokota digital box.
To be honest I haven’t looked into that. I am assuming it will work but still be off as it was before. My speedo has almost never been right. I am always changing tires or gears or something that effects it, so I gave up years ago, lol.
@@MuddyBeards4X4 thats the beauty of the digital box. Infinite adjustments unlike the speedometer gears.
I 2nd a calibration video I still haven't calibrated mine from when I installed my mega short sye kit in my tj
Yea I looked at them real quick, they look cool but seem kinda expensive.

Have they made one like this for the 242 yet?
I see sye kits for the 242 but not a super short one, thanks for watching👊🏻

Thanks, not sure the length of the tcase, they might have it on their website. But my driveshaft is 25” from flange to yoke at ride height.
Ok so youbdid the back and what about the front one you still using 1310 do the make one to
Yep still just stock 1310 up in the front
What snap ring pliers did you use?
Matco
So I just bought the job conversion, but my vss is a 2 wire, not a 3 like what you had. Any suggestions?
Hm.. what year is yours?
Cool vid. I have a question for you. The 231 on my 98 XJ is leaking from the front seal. Does it require complete disassembly of the t-case to replace?
Thanks, you should be able to pull the yoke off and swap out the seal without disassembly or removal of the t case.
Do you work at 4wp?? And great video btw, I’m definitely using Adams when I get my driveshaft built for my Sye kit. 👍🏻
Thanks, I did work there as a tech a long time ago, just bought my jacket from the uniform guy when I left, lol.
How do you calibrate your speedo
From my understanding you would have to get a electronic speedo control box. I haven’t looked into it because I don’t drive it on the street. It works but how accurate is it, I don’t know.
I've had this thing on my Jeep for the last 10 years and I've beat the crap out of it and I don't trust it
🤣 true…
Do you know if this would work on a 96 Cherokee XJ?
It should, as long as it is a 231. Check the website to verify compatibility
Doesn't the tone ring require snap rings to keep it from rubbing the case? video doesn't show you using them.
It does not have a snap ring. I guess when you tighten the yoke it was tightens it on the main shaft. I had to read the directions a few times on that one as well.
@@MuddyBeards4X4 It's nice to see then that they have simplified the installation and got to use less parts.
Do you know of any retailer that may sell this 1350 Sye kit They are sold out

Nice trick using pipe sealant instead of silicone (smacks forehead 😂).
why pipe sealant instead of silicone?
less work to remove it later .?..
MrMrsregor less work to clean off later and most likely will seal better.
@@aaronthompson9771 cool thanks, that is what i thought. unfortunately i used black rtv when i did both my axle builds :(

You'd be much better off using Yamabond on the case than RTV.
