I have watched several of your videos and I love the product agnostic approach, with the short IBM pitch at the end. They are always useful and informative. If you ever want a change in scenery, let me know ;) Very well done.
Great examples on the process to implement observability but you never showed us the difference? Is monitoring a part of observavility and can't be implemented separately? Does that mean monitoring doesn't fix problems? My friend working with open telemetry explained the difference incredibly well: Monitory is reacting to problems while observavility is fixing them in real time. Using traces, logs and metrics we're able to find the path, essentially the root cause of problems.
I got an opportunity as a Monitoring engineer in apm tools(Dynatrace, Appdynamics). After that the career progression is to APM developer l, SME, AIOPS. Is this a good career for non IT background. Because im a mechanical engineer deciding to change my domain and i don't have coding experience.
This is a good explanation of several terms, however the differences between the two terms is not clear. This is one of the terms that become a technology trend and confuse people.
@@IBMTechnology Thanks for checking and replying to the comments. I come from the mainframe performance monitoring area and academically I understand what observability definition is from control theory. Now I am facing all these new changes and digital transformations, specifically in the mainframe area, where I work as a Produt Manager. I am trying to learn these new concepts, but here are some observations: - The video starts by saying that APM, Monitoring, and Observability are different terms and then examines why? But you only discuss an Observavilty Solution instead - It seems that observability is primarily related to the Collection/generation of meaningful data. If this is entirely different than traditional monitoring, it is where the lines get fuzzy. Any monitoring solution (even monolithic) requires a sort of generation and collection of some kind of data, analysis and action, so what's the difference?. - Also, when you build the 3 step process, you refer this as Observability Solution but do not explain what observability is? - I think what is most important (please forgive me because I am learning this) is how you manage relations of the unpredictable distributed systems and applications (you mention this at the end) - Instana is the IBM observability solution, but there is no clear distinction of the 3 terms (APM/Observability/Monitoring). Thanks again, I enjoyed and learn a lot with your videos.
Where's the "vs"? You talked for 10 min in circles and didn't talk in the end about the versus. How is observability different than apm different than monitoring? Maybe that's why IBM is doing so poorly these days, its consultants know squat.
This is one of the best videos I have ever seen on the IBM learning platform - well done, Sai!

My mind is blown trying to imagine how the writing on the screen effect works in this video!
it's quite simple actually: put a glass between the person and the camera, then flip the image
Just don't wear anything with writing, or have writing in the background, then flip the video. He's most likely right-handed.
Plot twist, that guy is not writing with his left hand.
The shirt is a giveaway because the buttons are usually the other way on a mans polo shirt.
I love the way he breaks it down. Thank you man
Thank you, Sai... a very nice presentation on monitoring+observability...
Good video but surprising to me Open Telemetry wasn't mentioned.
So well explained. Seesh. Hats off and thanks for the hard work
Thank you for the great feedback, glad you liked the video! 😀

Fantastic Sai, this is one of your best.
Can you do a how to do a video like this. I think every company should do a presentation like this.
Thank you. This was very helpful.
So observability is fixing but monitoring is not ? Didn't get what difference
Monitoring allows for identifying the problem. Observability allows for solving the problem through debugging and analysis.

Hi sir how is ur role? How it is going 😊? Reply!
In one of the example, he said Node as a frontend. Is that correct?
Great video, thanks
What do you think about Dynatrace?
unlike your cloud this video is very proffesional
When he came to where the strap was hanging he tied the wings all in a bunch to the end of the line, and the Wizard drew them up.
Good luck with the node frontend ;)
Does instana work in an air-gapped private cloud?
Thanks for the video, but unfortunately the main difference is still not clear!
Hi Bro,
Can you suggest one good open-source cloud Monitoring tool which supports AWS and AZURE.?
node.js front-end ??
647 Gutmann Prairie
Awesome!
Cool. Thx

Hi Alfredo! We appreciate the feedback! What could we have done to explain it better?

Thank you for the detailed response! We will certainly ponder on it! 😇
And thanks for watching, be sure to stay subscribed for more videos.
Great, this is the best video about what is observability.
Your Bitcoin transfer has been processed successfully-congratulations!
I thought the video was going to explain these things and you said so at the start. But never did.
Sorry, he said node frontend?
yes he did, it is kind of off-putting right around the beginning.
"Node as a frontend"...
You do like Java, huh?
You don’t need Microservices architecture. Is just overhead
node front-end?
Great video!
