    Hi!
    My body has gone through a lot!!
    I had always been very dedicated to my body. I've never been overweight until recently. In my 30s, I was around 130 pounds now in my 50, I'm 150 pounds. First got diagestive issues when I moved to the USA. After living 3 years here, I contracted H. pilory. Then, ten years later, I started having issues with heartburn, and food would go to my mouth. The doctor found a hiatal hernia that measured 2 cm. I didn't know better, so I went under the knife. Then, 6 years later, the doctor found one gallstone that measured 2 cm, and they removed my gallbladder.😢
    The reason they also got gallbladder out is because Bile was moving to my stomach. I was having bile and acid reflex. Then, symptoms went away, but I remained feeling bloated after meals.
    Since then, I developed IBS symptoms, and just a few weeks ago, I started having heartburn again. 😫
    I have avoided sugar for many years. I've tried keto, but the diet makes me have loose stools. I have done fasting, but symptoms don't change.
    I saw a gastroenterologist last week, and he prescribed an acid blocker, but symptoms are not changing. The fact is, I told him that my right side was hurting, and he didn't say anything. Instead, he wanted me to get a colonoscopy!! Why?????
    I just recently had a colonguard test, and it came negative.
    If you tell a doctor about your symptoms and you get an upper respiratory infection because of the acid, how the acid blockers are going to resolve the problem? Why want to do a colonoscopy when right now my problem is at the other end?!!!!😵‍💫
    I have tried to eat more meat than vegetables, and all I get is diarrhea, with lots of bile, and sometimes I get constipated too. It is so hard to follow a diet, especially when your liver is not working properly and there's not a gallbladder to regulate bile.
    I sincerely regret both surgeries, but I didn't know better, I just wanted to get rid of the symptoms.....and I did, but not for very long.
    Today, I'm very discouraged, and I don't know who to trust. I don't even know if I can trust everything I watched on RUclips or the diets......I have tried everything. Did I mention that I'm 51 years old and that I have menopause symptoms as well? Yeap!!!
    So. I get hot flashes, insomnia, and heart palpitations.
    I don't know which direction to go. I'm lost and frustrated.

    I’ve heard that sometimes the smaller hernias cause more symptoms symptoms because the LES sphincter is altered. When most of the stomach pushes through on bigger hiatal hernias the sphincter may regain its natural form once it all crosses the diaphragm opposed to a a small hernia which would be more compressed at the beginning of the stomach where the LES would be.

I also get breathless very easy and I feel like I am choking in my sleep which wakes me up!. Oh and my ears get blocked also.I have been on 80mg of Omeprazole per day and Gaviscon Advance every day ever since for this issue and Gerd. I need to take this medication to stop heartburn and indigestion which gives me the pain I have mentioned, but if I stop taking it then the pain will come back. Its a catch 22!! Hi Doctor. I have believed for long that I have HH. I year ago I noticed strong palpitations and had reflux and digestive issues. Needed to go to ER. Also felt a weird sensation in my chest like I could feel the vibrations as the train travels or the bass of the music I was listening etc. It was gone. Few months ago my digestive issues started the arrhythmia followed that kind of affects my breathing too. Like I stop breathing when my heart skips a beat or beats irregularly. The sensation of feeling the vibrations in my chest also returned but it is worse. I started noticing breathing difficulties. In a very weird way. I can even explain it… it happens when I turn my chest, move around, walking etc even when I lift my hands in different ways of even when I look down or to the side. It plays with my breathing. It feels similar to when irregular heartbeat affects my breathtaking but without my heart skipping a beat. It happens now every day all day. But only when I move. When I am still, relaxed laying I dont feel it. Although I notice it if I flex my ches muscles that builds up pressure in my chest. It Weakens me. Kind of depressed at the same time. It affects everything I do. I can not notice it. Like I stop breathing for a moment or like something is poking my lungs inside?? Also have a lot of gas under my chest, feels like it is right under my heart. Burping is difficult. I feel the air pressure makes my symptoms worse. When I feel anxious my neck and chest muscles feel so tight it puts even more pressure on my chest and symptoms even worse. Today I felt like something touching my heart. I could feel the friction while I was having these strong palpitations. My stomach and abdomen right under my sternum pulsates every now and then. I dont wanna live like this. I have no life since its returned. Doctors dont care. I am healthy they say. I started visiting private doctors. Can these breathing issues caused by HH? I didn’t find online anything like what I experience. Makes me worry. Maybe HH pushing on vagus nerve or is it my lung that is ill?

    Ok here’s my story… About 6 years ago upper left stomach would start to tingle when bending over or sitting and hurt to the touch . Lost 100 pounds and it seemed to go away . Over the last couple years the pain came back, mostly when I cough , sneezed our pull when lifting. Docs just say gastritis. So last weekend I had severe stomach pains went to the ER with a contrast scan they said my appendix needed to leave immediately and it did . After getting home I read my scan results and besides the appendix it said small hiatal hernia, they didn’t even mention it . Do you think this can be my issues all along ? Maybe it’s hitting a nerve it radiates to my back and the skin on my upper stomach feels a little numb compared to the other side

    • @MarkCooperMD
      @MarkCooperMD 11 месяцев назад +2

      I would assume the findings in your appendix were dramatic and that was the reason to focus on that. A small hiatal hernia is common and unlikely to be the reason a person goes to the ER.

    I've have had iron deficient anemia for around 4year. II have to have iron infusions around every 1 and a half to two 2 months. I finally found a Doctor who said I have erosions on my hiatus hernia which could be causing me to loose blood. I've been taking.test now. to repair for surgery. How you ever repair a hernia that has emotions on it? If so did red and white cells go back to normal after surgery?

    • @MarkCooperMD
      @MarkCooperMD 2 месяца назад +1

      These are Cameron Erosions/Ulcers. They can be hard to spot. They are not well controlled with a proton pump inhibitor because their root cause is the friction of the hernia rubbing against itself as it moves through the diaphragm.
      Carafate can sometimes coat the Cameron ulcer and allow it to heal without surgery.

    • @susannebrule3160

      My Doctor said it was caused because of hernia going up and creating the Cameron emotions causing bleeding. Im still iron deficient anemiac. • @MarkCooperMD
      @MarkCooperMD 9 месяцев назад +1

      Aspiration pneumonia occurs in part because there’s a problem with the junction between your throat, trachea, and esophagus. That can be structural or neurologic. Crackles in the lower lobes doesn’t only equal aspiration pneumonia and can be due to a host of other reasons, including primary cardiopulmonary issues. Wheezing may be a reaction to other triggers as well. If the whole picture doesn’t fit it’s worth looking for other causes to explain the symptoms before being sure this is the definite cause and effect.

    I was diagnosed through CT scan that I had a small hiatal hernia. That was in September 2022. It’s now December 2023 and I look like I have a huge ostrich egg in my stomach and I suffer terribly. I recently had a major breast reduction for my back and went from a DDD to a B cup. Recovery from this surgery is so much more painful because now my small breasts , that have tape underneath to cover the stitches are irritated by my hernia pushing against my incisions. Do hiatal hernias grow real big? Whats the difference between a hernia and a hiatal hernia.
    I am one of those people that look 7 months pregnant high up! My plastic surgeon saw my gut and told me he will do surgery on my hernia once my breasts heal! I go for an ultra sound on Dec 20TH! Is ultrasound a good method to truly see the hernia I have that’s causing me pain, bloating, and causes my stomach to get so hard I think I’m going to pop! Please reply! Very useful video, clear explanations thank you. I suffered a very sudden onset of difficulty in swallowing food it would suddenly get stuck in my throat (oesophagus) wouldn’t budge and could only be dislodged by self induced vomiting, horrible and scary! no heartburn any other issues experienced, I stupidly used professor Google and immediately thought I had oesophageal cancer as did my GP! Quick CT and endoscopy later, small hiatus hernia found, commenced omeprazole 20mg daily and no problem since, so thankful, but wonder is there anything I should do to prevent any future complications and will I ever find out the cause? My friend advised my abdominal muscles were greatly weakened during pregnancy and again with emergency caesarean birth and this could influence things ?? I’m doubtful!

      Thanks. A small hiatal hernia allows reflux and inflames the esophagus. An inflamed esophagus may not move normally - producing your symptoms. The Omeprazole would help. Thanks for watching from the Commonwealth! Do you know if they took esophagus biopsy during the endoscopy?

      Yes. I basically have belching constantly. After eating it is worse. The hiatal hernia is always making gas as the food is digested. When you eat it is hard for the food to move down because there is air fighting to go up and out. When the air comes up and you belch, then it makes it easier for the food go down through the digestive tract. But of course as that food is digested, more gas occurs. So you are basically bloated 24 hours a day. This is my personal experience.

      This sounds like an epigastric ventral hernia. It’s a weakness in the muscle wall that allows abdominal contents to protrude - usually intestines. They usually protrude as you sit up because of the increased pressure. It can be repaired if causing discomfort.

      That’s hard. Sounds like a dramatic case but absent substantial symptoms I can see where you’d hesitate to pursue surgery. With such a large hernia I wouldn’t expect weight loss to resolve the situation. But then it doesn’t seem the situation is that bothersome to you for it to matter much either way. Surgery can certainly have complications. If you need to lose a lot of weight surgery would likely be simpler if you first achieve this. I hope this helps you have a thoughtful conversation with your doctors.

    Finally on the process to getting surgery to repair it. Don’t accept no as an answer if your suffering, load yourself with information when you go to the docs.
    Get it sorted it’s going to take over your social life, your work life and ruin your relationships. Trust me it’s an absolute nightmare to deal with!
