Rugby also has amongst the best displays for sportsmanship of all sports, among the players and the fans. One of the greatest displays of this was back in 2007, England legend Jason Robinson was going to be retiring from rugby after the 2007 World Cup. During the England vs South Africa match in the group stages, Robinson sustained a hamstring injury. Thinking that this would be a slightly premature end to his career, the whole stadium, both England and South African fans and the players from both teams gave him a huge standing ovation as he left the field. It was a really touching moment.
I'd love to take you to watch England at Twickenham stadium. The atmosphere is electric. Rugby is the greatest show of skill, power, speed, aggression, sportsmanship and respect.
I'm glad you showed the skills aspect as well as the toughness. Rugby is a social sport, with the "third half" in the clubhouse being an important part of the whole thing. Go down to a local club to watch some 6 Nations matches (many clubs show them on their TV screens), and enjoy the atmosphere.

Ralf you should start playing, if you love the game there is a form of rugby and a position for u 2 play. Hi Amanda. For the rugby match with the most atmosphere watch Saturday 25th Feb match where Wales are at home to old adversary England. The match kick-off is at 16:45 GMT (4:45 pm). The atmosphere when the Welsh fans sing is incredible. Even if you don’t understand our language Mae Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau is sung by the players and the majority of the spectators (the Welsh ones anyway!) with a great patriotic feeling. We are known as a Nation Of Song. Apart from the national anthem there will be the regular folk songs and hymns such Guide Me O Thou Great Redeemer, Sospan Fach (about little Dai a hero of Llanelli, he watches a saucepan boiling, the little one and big one boiling on fire hearth. Another great one is Calon Lan, a hymn about a pure heart. Most of the singing will be before kick-off, it will pick up in volume and feeling as the players get way their towards.
An American here who loves rugby. I prefer it to American football. I fell in love with it on my trip to New Zealand. The World Cup was happening, and it seemed like the whole country got behind the All Blacks . My favorite is rugby sevens. It's even faster than full squad. I was so glad when it was finally included in the Olympics.
There is very little to come close to a good game of rugby union - I played as a teenager in South Africa way back when. I hope you are watching the 6 nations tournament. I'm half Irish, and I hope they win. The French did the Grand Slam last year, but the Irish are ranked 1st in the world at the moment.
Hotel I used to live in, in Richmond, was home to the late-night England rugby team drinking hole. Some of those guys were 6ft 6ins tall and weighed close to 20 stone. When they come running at you it must have been like a steam train! And boy were they fast! Drinking and running!
In high school me and a lad from another school ended up with a concussion each after a nasty scrum in the opening 15 minutes. We were in beds next to each other at hospital after the game as we both played on. He collapsed 5 mins from time I followed two minutes after the ambulance left when I got tackled going over the half way line and I couldn't get up as the world was spinning super fast. We had a laugh in hospital as he had a fit trainee nurse and he kept asking for her number I had one that looked like big mama. Oh and we were 12 at the time.
Ages in pro rugby is generally 18-38. 18 usually for a back who is spectacularly talented. Late 30s is usually a forward. They’re the big guys. They can look much older because they tend to be fairly battered by that age. There’s exceptions to both. The occasional teenage forward and late 30s back.
rugby is so much fun to play. there are different ages. yes you play until you can't anymore lol. but also different sizes. rugby is more about brains then brawn. i am 47yrs old 70kg and still playing.
The hit in the head 2:30 with no attempt to go lower is an automatic sending off offence (red card) for the tackler and for further post match penalties. It is simply not allowed in modern rugby; the tackler is responsible for the outcome of tackles and the safety of the opponent. In other situations there may be mitigating factors that will reduce it to a yellow card (10 minutes in the sin bin) but do it again and it's red card and guaranteed match bans.
There is quite a range of size in a rugby team where you can have 280lbs+ prop forwards, 6' 8" tall second row forwards, 155-170 lbs scrum halves and wingers can be 5' 8" up to 6' 4" but very fast and agile. This video and others over-emphasise raw power and overt aggressive reactions.
@@blackbob3358 trust me, my opinions on rugby players would get me banned from RUclips these days. @@lesroberts3226 every Saturday from age 13 to 28 I’d play and every Sunday find lumps, bumps and bruises I’d not felt during the match. Great times but knee injury stopped me playing.
Frequently, Rugby retires you before you get to give up. I had to stop when I was 40, due to a back injury, which is not really ancient for a forward (Numbers 1 to 8). I played Number 8 and was a fairly typical size for the position of 6'5" and 250lbs. Some of the guys who play Lock (numbers 4 and 5) can be anything up to 6'10 and 300lbs. Forwards tend to have a longer 'shelf-life' than backs, as although they are expected to be fit and to keep up with play, they are generally not there for speed and guile, though there won't be too many who can't do a 100 in 11-12 seconds, they are there for short distance speed and impact. The backs (numbers 9-15) are much more agile and fleet of foot and tend to be better handlers of the ball. There is a significant female following of the sport and the ladies sides play to a very high standard. A few years back, a club called Sale employed a French No. 8 called Sebastien Chabal and couldn't work out why their attendances had increased so dramatically. It was found that the ladies came to watch Chabal, whose nickname 'The Caveman' should give a clue to his appearance. ruclips.net/video/KG_4x1XpM_Q/видео.html
Hey Amanda. My great uncle played professional rugby union for London Irish. I remember going into the players lounge after a match and seeing his nose wasn't in the same place as before the match! His ears were also a little shredded! As to the age players can get into a team around 18 and usually depending on injuries play to their early 30s.
You need to check out the GOAT Jonah Lomu, this machine was a frigging tank. Also worth noting some of the names of the players he beats are legends too, he was destroying at an elite level.
I loved rugby till I broke my back playing it in 1985. I was a 3rd year pupil at School and as it was end of term we were tasked to play rugby against the 6th formers who were twice the size of us. I got 2 trys and was bringing down this big chap with a rugby tackle and snap. I has a solid corsette style contraption then a plaster cast from my chest to my hip on for a couple of months. On the plus side, I did not have to do sports and was the only one allowed to wear a tracksuit to school as it was the only thing that'd fit over the plaster cast.
What you are seeing isn't really an age thing it's a size thing… Scrum halves can be as little as 5 foot six or seven and second row forwards can be almost 7 feet tall and beyond. And other players can weigh as little as 10 stone while you will find them trying to tackle someone on the plus side of 20 stone. It's one of the few sports where you can truly say it's not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog PS, the two guys that were fighting at the beginning are England teammates when they are not playing against each other At club level, which is another great aspect of such a physical sport
When I went to the US as a student I really looked forward to my first American Football game, but was bitterly disappointed by the stop-start aspect, I thought it was going to be continuous like Rugby. I got used to it in the end and went to every university game, but it's not the same is it. Also, if men are going to be beaten up by other men, it's nice to see their faces!
Age: Rugby players generally retire in their mid, perhaps late 30s. Technically an 18 year old could play for any senior team, including internationals, but in reality it usually takes a few years of experience to play at that level so the youngest guys playing at the top tend to be early 20s. For younger players there are age range groups such as under 18 e.g U12, U14, U16, U18. RFU guidance also takes into account kids should be playing with those of a similar size/weight as they can grow and mature at different rates. You can play adult rugby at 18, however the RFU have guidance for the transition of players to senior rugby. Most rugby clubs have several teams e.g first XV, second XV, third XV, etc. Unless they're exceptional most 18 year olds would start in the bottom team and have to work their way up through the ranks. Most guys tend to bulk up a bit in their early 20s and consequently for the majority this is when they might look at getting into the first XV if they're good enough.
Watch Nigel Owens - one of the best Referees ever.... There are quite a few videos of him in action.... Also - Try watching a whole game - Rugby Players go the whole game. Them once you have conquered Rugby - watch some Aussie Rules,,,,,,
That angry person you mentioned at the start is Mike Tyndall. Now a member of the Royal Family as Princess Anne's Son in Law. ( Zara Tyndall nee Phillips Her Daughter). Rugby Union was considered a privileged game as played at Public Schools and was amateur for years although I ended my playing days in a state school after a very serious freak injury to my back. at 16. One hefty player and a goal post involved. (Pre post padding days).
Rugby may be the fastest growing sport in the planet. American Football has sold out to special interests and extreme commercialization and Rugby is fast, hard hitting, and very exciting to attend. It’s a great spectator sport. This past Friday Night the North American Major League Rugby Season began and I took my 19 yr old Grandson to the New Orleans Gold-New England Free Jacks Match in New Orleans. It was an unusually cold evening but we had a great time even though we lost to the Free Jacks. If you get a chance, get out to a Rugby Match you won’t regret a great evening of action and also great sportsmanship.
I saw a meme which shows a picture of Rugby and then under it shows a picture of American Football (well... American Hand Egg) and it labelled it as Safe Rugby 😁
Usually it’s late 30s when professional league/union players retire but there are a few exceptions like welsh legend Alun Wyn Jones he still gets stuck in coming up to 17 years later 😃
The training is just as tough. I was late for a practise at school once. My Coach made me do forward rolls from the half way line to the try line through the mud while my team mates threw balls at me as hard as they could. Happy days, not.
Hi Amanda. Did you like that? im a big fan of Rugby Union, have you managed to see any of the 6 Nations tournament, on at the moment? You are so right about the weather, weve got a week of minus numbers on the way! Wont be long though. Take care Amanda
The age of the players at the international level can be from age 18-38. Mostly, the average age is between 25-28 in a squad. Each game on the body is equivalent to a car crash according to the tests that have been carried out. Players sometimes play without realising they have cracked their skull and continue playing with broken fingers by strapping them together. New rules has made the game safer as sometimes Players get paralysed and contact to the head is now a foul. Years ago you was allowed to stamp on a player on the floor if they were preventing the ball coming from a ruck. It hurt with the boot studs. It's a great game though!
Unless you were in a private school, I do not know anyone of my generation who did not play Rugby. You had to show up with a Dr's certificate to be exempted from practice or a match. That is where the foundation starts. At school level. Rugby is the most beautiful sport in the world. You get a sense of belonging. It is not about the individual. It is about the team, the school, the club, the province and if you are really good - the nation.
Every player in Rugby need's ball skills, you can never have to much. Only the ball carrier can be tackled, so no taking player's out who don't have the ball, in Rugby that is a offence, and can get you anything from a penalty against you to a sending off and penalty try awarded to your opponent's.
To be fair I agree with tge guy who said nothing can make me love rugby 😂😂😂 I'm more of a football guy ( soccer for you ) but you're one of us so hopefully football 😂😂

Hi Amanda as always you show great content in your vids I played rugby for a lot of years both League and Union and although they are different both great games and both tough but you batter each other during the game then shake hands at the end and have beer together and a few more😂
No they don't and even if they did an entire rugby team doesn't get paid what an average NFL player does and you don't want a multi million dollar player missing an entire season because of a broken collar bone!
Technically Gridiron hits are harder due to the helmets and padding which allows the tackler to throw themselves into tackles which would be illegal in rugby. Rugby players make more tackles per game, and are tackled more, and play 3x longer in ingame time, without the breaks and resets. But from a purely hit v hit level, NFL is bigger hits but that's not really the correct comparision.
Rugby also has amongst the best displays for sportsmanship of all sports, among the players and the fans. One of the greatest displays of this was back in 2007, England legend Jason Robinson was going to be retiring from rugby after the 2007 World Cup.
Rugby a real man's game.
Look on RUclips Amanda at 70s rugby!
👍🏻🙌🙌
I used to play rugby but paid my last game after having half my lip ripped open.
But after a few vodkas, you don't feel the pain ..... lol
Haha i bet not 😂
What you are seeing isn't really an age thing it's a size thing… Scrum halves can be as little as 5 foot six or seven and second row forwards can be almost 7 feet tall and beyond.
Greatest most natural team sport.Everyone can play it-fat and short, tall and lanky, fast and slow, any body type. But you must be brave.
Women's Rugby might be worth a look too Amanda. I believe that can get pretty exciting too.....
Will do 😊
Heh Amanda some off these hits would knock me back 100 years I felt pain. Your teams in Superbowl at least we're pads cover helmets
I played rugby in high school it is a brutal sport
This is Rugby Union. Also known as “The Running Game”. This is the game they play in Heaven.
Ah yes that famous night club 'Heaven'...
Rugby is like going into war for 7yrs straight and coming home that your not the same person ,especially head collision are real
This is Rugby Union in the north west of England we play Rugby League two very different games. Try watching Rugby League highlights as well
That 1st clip looked more like WWE than Rugby lol!
Check out "wide to west" St Helens V Bradford Bulls.
Watching some of the tackles that are made 😳 OMG brutal
I know it!
Please redacted to the most feared rugby team. Love your reaction
Thank you!
Smiling at your reactions
Hi Amanda, Now you are a big fan of rugby you must watch out for the Rugby World Cup in France - September and October 2023.
Watch Nigel Owens - one of the best Referees ever.... There are quite a few videos of him in action.... Also - Try watching a whole game - Rugby Players go the whole game.
Them once you have conquered Rugby - watch some Aussie Rules,,,,,,
She has seen Nigel and by the title of one under this agrees he’s one of the best 🙂
rugby in the cold months cricket in the warm months.
That's actually Lawrence Dallaglio, not Mike Tyndall.
Lol
Amanda for ladies rugby? Loved the reaction.
Usually it’s late 30s when professional league/union players retire but there are a few exceptions like welsh legend Alun Wyn Jones he still gets stuck in coming up to 17 years later 😃
Even James Roby he tore Penrith apart Saturday morning for St Helens.
You should react to women rugby video to see the difference. One famous is called "violent side of women rugby" something like that
The training is just as tough. I was late for a practise at school once. My Coach made me do forward rolls from the half way line to the try line through the mud while my team mates threw balls at me as hard as they could. Happy days, not.
I bet not lol
Rugby is a game for gentlemen with funny shaped balls! Love your videos Amanda!😊
Fabulous game ... i loved playing it, & still love wayching it.
Hi Amanda. Did you like that? im a big fan of Rugby Union, have you managed to see any of the 6 Nations tournament, on at the moment? You are so right about the weather, weve got a week of minus numbers on the way! Wont be long though. Take care Amanda
Not sure if it's just me but yr last two vids have played up. One was out of sync and this one lost sound loads? X
Ironically I never played rugby at school,it was played if you went to a grammar school, but secondary we only played football, cricket and basketball 🏀
Both rugby codes in these videos
Unless you were in a private school, I do not know anyone of my generation who did not play Rugby. You had to show up with a Dr's certificate to be exempted from practice or a match. That is where the foundation starts. At school level. Rugby is the most beautiful sport in the world. You get a sense of belonging. It is not about the individual. It is about the team, the school, the club, the province and if you are really good - the nation.
Have a look at Aussie Rugby league (NRL)- different game to Union- I would recommend a State of Origin Game
Every player in Rugby need's ball skills, you can never have to much. Only the ball carrier can be tackled, so no taking player's out who don't have the ball, in Rugby that is a offence, and can get you anything from a penalty against you to a sending off and penalty try awarded to your opponent's.
To be fair I agree with tge guy who said nothing can make me love rugby 😂😂😂 I'm more of a football guy ( soccer for you ) but you're one of us so hopefully football 😂😂
lol👍
You have a very melodic voice.
Thanks
Australian Womens rugby players, would absolutely crush those big NFL players, and no padding !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You should watch some Rugby League like the Wide To West Try.
Amanda as others have suggested try to watch next weekend's Six nations games. It's one of the best rugby tournaments in the world.
Where do you live Amanda? If it's Midlands, there are quite a few rugby teams around there do you could go watch a club game.
No helmets or mountains of padding out there.
Have you been watching the Six Nations on the telly Amanda?
This makes you see the difference between rugby and American Pro Football (with Their kindergarten protection) 🤔
Rugby Union is tough sport and have you seen six nations at the weekend Amanda? I think you will enjoy watching this sport 😊
massive fan rugby and nfl
See New Zealand rugby hakas. Breathteaking.
They are so quick because they think oh crap i have the ball leg it feet lol
Watch it live, six nations resume this weekend.
A gentlemen's game.
Hi Amanda as always you show great content in your vids I played rugby for a lot of years both League and Union and although they are different both great games and both tough but you batter each other during the game then shake hands at the end and have beer together and a few more😂
These men are 6ft 6in plus 200lb monsters!
The thing I love most about rugby is that they put in the same hits as American football players but without all the padding
In Rugby now those kind of tackles would be illegal ,but if you look back at some made during the 70s and 80s when it was ok, some of them were brutal
I think we can safely say Amanda loves rugby 😂😂😂😂
