🤎📚 I loved the book and gave it five stars! I actually just reread it and enjoyed it more the second time. I agree the romance during my first read felt out of pocket lolll, but I warmed up to it on the second read. love this review!

Thanks! I'm glad to know the romance hits a little different on the second read through lol

I just finished a buddy read for this and we thought the same things as you lol i gave it a 4.5 and my friend gave it a 4. We agree once the game begins, you can't put the book down 😂 i was up until 3am! I needed answers lol also, Penthouse (we don't use her real name) was a very interesting character throughout the book. Great read! Highly recommend.

Same! The way I *had* to let Ben know what was going on 😂 Also, PENTHOUSE 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I AM DEAD! I just did an interview with the author last week and she said her name so many times and I still can't say it. But definitely a good read!

I think you’re right about lived experience playing a role in how one would feel about the 1st hundred pages exposition. As a Black man who was raised first in diverse, and then predominantly Black ‘spaces’ some of the context did need to be a little more explained. Fascinating to discover that this could be off putting to you and yours side of things.

I'm glad you shared that because it's nice to know that the context she offered landed with the readers who would appreciate it. And, like you said, it's interesting to realize that the context hits differently for you. I knew that my lived experience colored my experience with the book, but it's kind of cool to see how it did from an outside perspective.
