This is by far the best tutorial I have ever watched on RUclips and believe I have watched dozens. Packed with useful info, straight to the point and SHORT!! Thank you for putting this up!!
One of the things that makes your videos stand out is giving sets and reps goals for each progression. That is such an important point that most channels leave out! Saying "when you're good at this exercise move on" isn't enough. What is "good"? Thank you so much for your help! Greetings from Brazil!
Maaan ... This is best tutorial that i have seen. I saw a lot of tutorials on how to do handstand but this one is most helpful. Great work ! Keep making these videos, because all your tutorials are awesome :) Thanks a lot ! :) I hope you will get a lot of fans ! ;)
Hi Dan. Just a quick message to say that with the advice you give in this tutorial I have literally just achieved 5 free standing handstands this afternoon whilst practicing donkey kicks, each for a 12 second hold. A few months ago I couldn't even hold the handstand against a wall. So for anyone that doubts it, this absolutely works as long as you put the time and effort in. Thank you Dan for allowing me to achieve a long term goal and now its onto the 5 x 30 sec holds. Merry Christmas.
OK, I'm officially your #1 fan. My handstand literally sucked (arched back)... today I followed your tips and there was a HUGE improvement. Thanks, man.
Dan Jeong Conditioning Hey Dan Great channel.... breathe last week I've been training my handstand, planche, front lever and Lsit all from scratch on top of my weight training. Would you advise to maybe get one or two first or just train them all together. Thanks

hey Dan, thank's a lot for this video. I always thought I could never be able to do this, because of fear and lack of tips. With your video, I decided to try and now i'm addict to this, my progression is fast ! THANK you again !!
Hey this is really great, thank you. I've always had problems balancing and I find your video comprehensive and easy to understand. Looking forward to practicing!
Great video! Thanks for posting. Do you happen to have any footage of how you get into and out of the wall stands? Also any tips or tricks on falling safely?
Great video I have started to work my handstand because of you but there is a think I don't understand at 1:38 for the One leg assisted handstand holds you say "It will be thirty seconds for both arms" ? To my mind it's fifteen seconds by leg so thirty for both legs am I right ?
I have the fear of falling over. I know it doesn't hurt much (if not at all) if you fall on your back because I've already experienced it. I stopped training on handstands for a while but when I got back, the fear of falling over intensified! Even my body is rejecting the attempts now. I definitely have no fear if I do handstands facing away from the wall but on freestanding, I can't even bring 1 foot high/straight enough.
Very useful video. Does a head placement affect your stability? I think you are more stable when your head is in line with your body and not protruding :) I am saying this because I tend to look forward when doing free handstand. How do you recover your body starts falling not over your head but on the other side?
Handstand is one of my most neglected exercises due reduced space and the fear to fall against any pointed piece of furniture. I've started working it out a few days ago. I can hold more than a minute a handstand facing the wall without any drama, so i think its time to keep moving. I wanted to ask you about how much time took you to achieve a solid free handstand Greetins from Spain ;)
Hi dan, i can't seem to progress past the one leg assisted handstand holds. when i try the one leg assisted handstand switches, the moment i switch my legs my body fall towards the wall. what do you recommend i work on?
When I'm doing handstand on the wall right, either facing the wall or the other way, but as I start holding the handstand on the wall my shoulders should be pushing out I mean pushing upwards my entire body or don't do that just hold the hand stand but don't flex out/push upwards my body with shoulders and hold the hand stand ? I hope you understand my question ? let me know if I need to be more specific thanks .
I know this is an older video but if I could get a reply that'd be amazing. in your tutorial you recommend 5x30s holds before moving on. this is fairly easy for me with good form. a lot of other tutorials recommend 60s solid holds. I can barely get 60s while maintaining good form. how important is it to get to 60s in your opinion? is it a bit overkill depending on your goals? I've went back to the wall to work on foundational strength for HS to break plateaus and was wondering how much time I should really spend on getting 60s wall holds. thanks Dan!!
+jacqueslaframboise84 60s is not needed. Practice freestanding HS along with wall handstand together. You should achieve 60 eventually, but you can definitely start to practice HS without wall
Hi, thanks a lot for your video, i have a question: you have to contract your abdominal muscles right? The thing is i cant contract them when im straight in the handstand, since they are used for the flexion, if you know what i mean... How do you contract them?
Fresk Ology I don't really worry about my abs during handstand. I try to squeeze my butt, thighs, and try to maintain posterior pelvic tilt. The rest comes naturally
I have a question :d should I do all of these in one workout? (besides the actual handstand hold which i can't do),or should i do the progression i hit each workout and work towards the next one?
follow each progression and only work on one at a time. You CAN work on little bit more advanced progression as well just to play around but your main focus should be only one progression
Maybe one of you guys can help me out: I'm doing a lot of handstand/iron cross work and general ring-workout. Now, it seems like my elbow joints and tendons are overused, as they hurt when I do e.g. Iron Cross exercises. Waited 3 days and trained yesterday...ouch. You think waiting like 1-2 weeks would be ok, or go see a doc?
It seems good guide to practice handstand. I have some questions. Which is the most important part of body to do handstand? Shoulder or Back? And could you recommend any exercise to make that stronger?
Dan Jeong Conditioning I kinda figured it out, I have reallylong legs so i had to find a good position, BTW I'm really thankful for this video I've already noticed so much improvement. Keep up the amazing work man
Thank you, I ve improved a lot with this tips, I can keep a freestanding handstand for 5-10 seconds, but i cant improve more...and i need 10 trys for that. I have no fear, but in the last 2 weeks i havent improved anything and im loosing my motivation because of this, do you have some additional tip? I usually fail in the transition from feet in the floor to handstand, because of the movement energy. Sorry for my english, i hope you understand it.
Raul Martin I can critique your handstand if you send me a link. And don't get discouraged for not improving in mere 2 weeks. Perfect handstand takes months if not years to develop. Hitting a plateau is very normal
Dan Jeong Conditioning Thanks for the idea, but i have seen my own fails easily with the video, comparing my handstand with the handstand in your tutorial, thanks! if i continue having problems i ll send you other vid.
Hello, you said never to put you're feet down toward you're head when doing a hand stand but don't people that do yoga do that? Is it wrong that they do that?
Dan Jeong Conditioning I think this is a better explanation haha at 4:25 for your Do's and Don't, you said not bend legs. But I see a lot of yoga people doing similar moves like that. Is it bad/wrong that they do that with their back and legs?
Really nice advices here bro, helped a lot to be more stable on my handstand, but I'm still getting that Arched position and I can't get rid of it.. Everytime I try to get a more straight form my legs just drag me back down to the pushup position and there is nothing I can seem to do to balance that... :(

Really nice work man

It seems good guide to practice handstand. I have some questions.
Which is the most important part of body to do handstand? Shoulder or Back?
And could you recommend any exercise to make that stronger?
YB KIM your entire body. Handstand requires involvement from your entire body. Just follow this tutorial and this will make you stronger for handstand
Dan Jeong Conditioning Thanks a lot!
