    Hi. Did the rail install easily? I know the sbl comes with a rail but the trapper doesn't

      Yes, I used the same rail and XS ghost ring sight system as the sbl and it bolted right on no problem.

    Where did you get the rail? Was the rail hard to install?

    Hi. Can I ask what mount (rings) is on the Leupold? It looks lower than what Leupold advertises.
    Thanks.

      I'm glad I came across your video! I just ordered the freedom RDS (BDC) for my new Herny X but the scope mpunted too high. There weren't any new videos that showed a low mount like yours. I went with Vortex's low mount rings. They arrive tomorrow. Thanks for the information on adjusting after sighting in. If you haven't heard yet, yry the 250 grain Hornady mono rounds. Vídeos show they group tighter and expand 3x more than the 325 Hornady rounds.

    What is your optics of choice?

    • @EugeneJankowskiJr
      @EugeneJankowskiJr  Год назад +3

      For the marlin 45/70 I prefer the Leupold freedom red dot sight. For this application It allows me to quickly dial elevation from a 50 yard zero to 200 yards (11.0 moa) which is more than enough for the thick woods found in the area I hunt. I’ve tested it at 200 on a 10 inch steel plate with no problem. The same optic on an ar15 allows me to dial out to 500 yards plus. You’re only limited to how far you can see with the naked eye, as there is no magnification

    How do you adjust the Freedom for 45-70 when it is designed for 5.56 according to the website? You zeroed at 50 and then tried at 200? Interested in the sight for my Henry 45-70.

    • @EugeneJankowskiJr
      @EugeneJankowskiJr  Год назад

      As long as you know the value of each click on the optic you aren’t limited to a specific rifle. I ignore the markings for 5.56. The freedom RDS BDC elevation adjustment is 1/4 moa (approximately 1/4 inch) per click. I suggest you zero at 100 yards which puts bullet impact 1.4 inches high at 50, dead on at 100 and 2.6 inch’s low at 125 yards. The majority of shots in the deep woods are 125 yards and closer so most of the time no adjustments are needed, just aim dead on out to 125. From there, using my data, (with a 100 zero), 150 yards is up 17 clicks from 0, 175 is up 26 clicks from 0 and 200 is up 37 clicks. Different ammo/rifle velocities, may result in higher or lower adjustments than mine so it’s important you confirm and or adjust for your setup at the range. My data will give you a good starting point. Once you know the values, make note of your dial locations and write it down. You can use color magic marker to mark the dial itself or I’ve used a sticker under a scope cap to keep the data handy on the rifle. I’ve seen others with a small piece of paper containing the data, covered by water resistant clear tape on the side of their rifle. That way if you have a longer shot the data is handy.
