  • Removing headless nails or pulling out a headless nail buried in wood requires a special tool. Yet this tool isn't new! This nail puller was invented decades ago. Today, nail pullers can still be found on Amazon:

    BAHCO 38 17 3/4 Inch Nail Puller

You can also find them second hand at estate sales or on used online sites. The tools are quite strong though a vintage tool may require some sharpening as we did in this video.
The function is simple. Fit the puller over the nail that is to be removed. Use the slide to hammer the locking jaws around the nail shaft. Then lever the nail up. Some times it requires some muscle to pry up the nail, but the jaw want to stay lock on the shaft due to the design of the nail puller lever. Stuck nails or buried nails or even a buried headless nail are no match for this nail puller. Whether you are using the puller to remove nails from hardwood pallets or soft pine studs, this nail pulling tool gives you an advantage.

I would of loved this tool years ago when ‘attempting’ to remove cabinets that had no head. I gotta get one now. Thanks for the great demo!

Is there another tool that doesn't marr the wood ad much?

      Hey Lori,
Not sure there is. Removing a large nail is still going to require significant repair if only to that hole if you plan on some kind of finished product. So additional marring by the nail puller can be part of that repair.
But more typically the hole is not an issue if reusing the board for framing / building.
      Thx for watching!

@@Housebarons Another thin piece of wood under the leverage part would save a lot of damage from happening
