The iron ore are amazing I lived in port hedland about 7 yrs ago and when the came bend at Nelson pt and making the thundering screeching loud noise at some night's when you hear the train leaving the loading yard at port hedland to mt whaleback Newman w.a
Many thanks vor filming and put here in youtube..!! Wonderfull..🥰🥰 I am near to flying to Australia, and then to Port Hedland...😄😄 I was here 40 Years ago...but i dont have watching trains...😔 They drive 24 Hours ? 🤔 Greetings from Switzerland
I have been asked that before and unfortunately I have no positive answer , I could only speculate that because they travel in large open areas that they require more sound but that's only a guess.
tried a few times to find data on iron ore hoppers -no success -what empty weight are we talking about, max load -is it an optical illusion that i feel those hoppers are shorter than these coal cars in Australia or US?
Magnificent machines! I'm curious thou, in 2014, all AC6000s were scraped? not even one kept for display? I mean ... after all, those were the most powerful locomotives to have ever pulled iron ore trains in Australia. Do you know why they were retired? Was it unreliability? or high maintenance costs? or have they just simply met their planned obsolesce? Either way, really nice captures! :D Greetings from the other side of the globe, from Romania! :D
Discretion, lower tone in built up areas and yards, higher used away from the maddening crowd to scare kangaroos, cattle etc, sometimes way out in the desert i wouldn’t use it at all.
@@johnphillips592 forgot to ask -BHP and Rio Tinto are entirely separate tracks, right? even separate loading stations? or is that common, as Port Hedland harbour is not their property?
great footage mate, thanks
Awesome sound quality to these vids.
Thanks , I use Rode Microphones with fur covering them to cut out the wind noise .

Sorry I not sure why they were retired , probably reliability issues as you have said , they did have an engine change at some stage .
I think AC6000 too high maintenance cost
Nice work John! Didn't see any runaway's by chance...........too soon..??? Must get up there before all the trains are driverless!
Cheers Gregg.
No , long after I was there , the only trouble is that it is such a long way to go to get there.
Im wondering why do the aces in Australia have 2 set of horns
