  • Learn how the flex of your driver shaft can influence the ball flight of your drives.
In this video we review how the shaft flex of your driver can impact how you drive the ball. Nowadays, you can find club shafts across a variety of flex options, ranging from stiff (or even extra stiff) all the way to very soft, which was referred to as ladies, or senior.
Playing with the wrong flex in respect to your swing speed can have an effect on your ball flight and may explain how low (or high) your drives go and whether it tends to go left or right.
Generally speaking, a shaft that is too soft for your swing will be difficult to control. It will tend to send the ball on a higher trajectory and to the left, for right-handed golfers. That being said, while the golfer is actively trying to control his wild driver, a soft shaft can also send the ball to the right.
Similarly, a driver shaft that is too stiff for your swing speed will tend to send the ball low to the ground and off to the right, again for right-handed golfers. It will feel wooden and generally unresponsive.
Next time you are in the market for a new driver, be sure to consider the various shaft flex options and to pick the one that is right for you.
